What's In Store For America With The New President?

Now that Donald Trump has won the presidency all sorts of speculation, sound and ridiculous is spreading throughout the world. The hopeful expect a new age that will make America great again and others see his administration as a new Republican oppressive institution that will favor the wealthy at the expense of the poor and middle class.

Trump has made all kinds of claims at what he's going to do as soon as he sits down in the Oval Office and everyone is wondering just how far he will go. He's said his fist order of business will be to handle illegal immigration. Build a wall along the Mexican and American border, expel illegal immigrants en masse, and prevent Muslims from entering the country. Opponents will raise the Constitutional questions that will determine if he's allowed to do so and the battle may last for months or years. Millions of people worldwide will be affected if he should succeed and whether it will be a boon to America remains to be seen. That many people who are already in the workforce delivering money to the economy and their home countries suddenly displaced could cause economic turmoil. The drug trade will take a major hit and marijuana will dry up leaving the domestic growers with the task of replacing demand. That could be a major boost to the American economy, but the drug lords will lose their minds and there's no telling what the ramifications will be.

Trump's domestic policies could upend so many social programs that millions will be left out in the cold. The US is still in economic distress with over 100 million not in the workforce, 32 million adults still illiterate, tens of millions still strung out on alcohol, drugs, and pharmaceuticals. There is no surplus for the Republicans to siphon except the revenue and assets of the middle class who are already barely hanging on as it is. Should the middle class suffer further, the economy for the overwhelming majority of Americans will plummet them into irreparable destitution leaving the 1% wealthy in control of everything and an open fire sale for foreign investors who will swoop in like vultures.

His views on the environment also foreshadow a turn back on gains made by scientists who've already proven the march of Global Warming is at the point of no return. If Trump's administration flies in the face of science there's no telling how much damage it can do. As far as energy goes, Americans have enjoyed low gas prices for years under Obama, but with Trump will the old oil cabals gain ground again? Renewable energy has proven itself a thousand fold in all parts of the world. Even in Third World countries renewable energy is drastically changing people's lives for the better but in America, primitive fossil fuels still reign supreme even when statistics show they're obsolete. If Trump turns back on energy, Americans will have to take a hit in the pocket books again that they might not be able to afford.

The most fearsome of things is the urge to warfare that Republicans find as their bread and butter. Will Trump go after ISIS with a sound plan or remain in the quagmire the Obama Administration has been wallowing in for years. The military/industrial complex's only agenda is in its own protection and expansion. Their grip on lawmakers, contractors, manufacturers, and banks makes them an overwhelming force to reckon with. So many Americans depend on the military for employment that they're reticent to challenge any decisions that lead to more war. With Russia pushing throwing their weight around and the Islamic terrorists hiding behind every rock and tree, there's no telling when something will occur that will bring about war and more tax dollars being sucked away.

Only time will tell if Trump will be the savior of America or just another pawn to the banks and military and corruption. It won't take too long to find out.

My goodness Greg…you’re just over-flowing with optimism. I see now why you write in the Independent Column rather than for the pessimistic Liberal/Democrats.

You did forget to mention a comet or asteroid hitting earth or the sun burning out because Trump won.

Already, Donald Trump and his team are creating space for compromise on many campaign promises.
