Will More Civility Help The Political Process?

The Middle Column must seem somewhat vindicated by the Trump and Sanders win in NH. Brings into clear focus that the folks ‘ain’t going to take it anymore’.

The President is proposing that democracy could be improved by holding elections on more than one day to include Saturday. Then, he goes on to suggest that folks should be automatically registered to vote when they receive their first drivers license. Here he is talking about civility and acting all grown up, etc, and then makes this voter registration proposal. An eighth grader would realize this is a super immature way to register illegal immigrants to vote. Such actions test our civility to not hurl insults and expletives at pols who act in this way.

So, the President wants more civility, as in, doesn't want Trump to talk about Megan's body parts and so on - - - Well, if we look back 50 years or so we were a more 'civil' voting public. But, back then we didn't enthusiastically advocate for rap music, didn't want porn channels competing with 'Andy in Mayberry', viagara ads running during dinner hour and so on - - - Few bars were open on Sunday. Shooting guns on Sunday was illegal in some states, out of respect for the Sabath and wanting a few hours of quite time. And, scores of similar - - -

Well, Mr. President you can't just wish for civility. This country has been changed bigtime, largely by liberal progressives. Like putting the cat back in the bag, ain't easy.

Working to increase your voting base through immigration tends to take jobs from folks already here. Allowing drugs to proliferate across the nation may increase your base but does little for core family values.

And, you are currently working to increase your base of supporters by releasing folks from prison. Allowing ex-cons, gangs, and ISIS types to beat up on the citizens doesn't seem so civil. DC passed a law to pay about $9k each to some 50 of their most violent, likely to repeat, criminals to go straight, get a life. Sixth grade crap, like it's never been tried before?

How civil is it for the Clintonite's to suck off GS and similar pretend to be the great savior for the poor and downtrodden and all those wishing to cross the border and 'breath free'?

One would have thought the President would have gone down to Mexico and got some things straight but, he didn't. Trump will build a wall, and Mexico will pay for it. Lights, camera, action!!! Or, will he?

Otherwise - - -

American values and culture are incompatible with today’s liberalism, so they must be destroyed in order for liberalism to thrive.

Personal religious beliefs are now mocked and the free exercise of them is trumped by government decree. Personal responsibility has been replaced with excuses and special treatment. Morality is now defined by the dollar. Patriotism is no longer defined by love of country, but by the acceptance of oppressive taxation and blind obedience to government. Tolerance no longer means tolerating opinions or behavior you may disagree with, now you must accept and embrace those opinions and behaviors as your own. Individual rights are now dismissed as nothing but obstacles to selfish desires of comfort and convenience.

Civility is no longer possible in our political process.

“Civility is no longer possible in our political process.”

Only if you are part of the angry and upset crowd of dissatisfied miscreants that seem to make up about 25% of conservatives today. Those of us who have never lost faith in our country and the political process will ignore the rants of these malcontents and continue to work towards prosperity and peace for the general public, miscreants be damned.

Complete nonsense.

People such as Ben Carson probably don’t think it’s nonsense. Doubt all the people who believe the same as those teachers, coaches, clerks, bakers and pizza makers, think it’s nonsense either.
Those who don’t support climate change theory hear it all the time.
What’s happened to Christmas plays, decorations and greetings pretty much speaks for itself.

When those supporting American values and culture are considered villain’s, and when facts are dismissed as nonsense, civility cannot be had.

“civility cannot be had”

Only by those that propagate and condone incivility. The rest of us who wish to work together will ignore incivility and continue to make progress, looking for more and better ways to share our country’s great bounty and humanity. Miscreants be damned.

“The rest of us who wish to work together”

The problem Speaks, is that the numbers of those you are referring to, are shrinking.
More Republicans are identifying as Conservatives these days, and more democrats are identifying as liberal. 42% of democrats are even identifying as socialists.

The extremes are no longer on the sidelines, they are now running the whole show. Especially on the left.

The extremes can and should find equitable solutions to problems regardless of their ideological differences. It has been and will be that way in this country. There have always been these ideological differences for over 200+ years and we seem to have been able to deal with them. The problem arises when some of us refuse to see that the solution will always be when we can somehow, some way get along enough to formulate the necessary legislation to keep moving towards a more prosperous and peaceful co-existence. Those of us who turn their backs on that process will still be able to benefit from the process they just won’t be able to gain the satisfaction of knowing how the benefits were obtained.

The very reason they are considered extreme is because their ideological differences prevent them from even wanting to try and ‘find equitable solutions to problems.’ They want it all and anything less is unacceptable.
That is why shouts of racist, sexist, bigot and hate have replaced any attempt at productive debate.

I could easily agree with your optimism IF the numbers were still 90-10 or 80-20 in favor of moderates, but they’re not and no matter who wins the election, I see things only getting much much worse.

I am not attempting to make you agree with my optimism. I am only pointing out that it is there and has been there for over 200+ years and has done some very amazing things. You are free to consider this country a dead end and doomed to a liberal nightmare of everybody just getting free stuff. I will not be considering that this country will be overcome by a stringent conservative dogma that preaches every man for themselves and gives nothing to their fellow countrymen if they are in need. Now I am not accusing you of that feeling, I am just expressing the other side of the ideology that I seem to be opposed to.

Many folks have lived through 4 or t administrations and rightly believe that the working class has been taken to the cleaners.

Extremism began to ramp up after the Reganite’s proffered that ‘greed is good’. Globalism, at great cost to the taxpayer, left workers without jobs. Insult to injury by amnestisizing some millions of new workers. Strong attempts to trash sovereignty and the constitution through the North American Union.

Such actions led to increased poverty, lower wages, fewer good jobs, fewer jobs, $20T debt, inequality beyond speak, market crash and subsequent recovery similar to 1929, and so on - - -

Yet, nothing has changed. Corpocracy still wants trade agreements, amnesty, open borders, immigrants wherever they can be captured. Japan has adopted a below zero interest rate where folks have to pay the gov’t to take their money.

That’s enough to spur a good number of miscreants to political action.

Run, Trump, Run

First generation in US history to see their offspring fare less well than they did. Standby for many more miscreants, IMO.
