A Stranger In My Own Country

The airwaves of full of reports about charities defrauding the public. Corruption is rampant across the globe and the private sector may just be the tip of the iceberg.

Everyday we learn that this or that charity is fat on solicitation but lean to none on spending for their cause célèbre. One of the news outlets is tracking a charity that has collected millions to save military dogs from being left in the war zones. We learn that slim to none of that money was spent on recovering war dogs. Another deals with support to war wounded veterans returning home. Again, most of the money has gone to collection with virtually nothing done for the veterans.

A recent report has shown that approximately half of charities vetted were fraudulent to some degree. Yet, the folks fork over green backs without question. Apparently, makes them feel good about themselves or perhaps in need of a tax write-off. One can understand, somewhat, regarding hurt/lost dogs and humans in bad straits, that some people will open their wallet and act on their emotions with little information about the charity.

Corruption is a world wide phenomena. An article in today's WaPo relates that some citizens of India are up in arms, hunger striking, and so on, over corporations withholding their profits offshore so as to evade taxes and points a finger at corrupt gov't as the source of the problem.

"The main opposition parties -- including the rightwing Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party -- several socialist and regional parties have offered support to Ramdev, with several political leaders sitting with the guru for short spells over the past six days."

I think this same group may have fasted a year or so ago and note that their several political parties can't seem to get a grip on the problem.

Sounds a lot like the problems we have with corruption, quid pro quo involving campaign donations and lobbying interests. Heard on WTOP radio this noon that several thousand millionaires/multimillionaires are collecting welfare checks. Seems a law passed some years back doesn't allow for means testing once folks are signed up to receive welfare.

Often, corruption is in the eye of the beholder. People receiving questionable welfare may feel deserving while others may not. The same would be true of immigration.

The two political parties may view a policy as corruption or worthy. Some corruptive acts perpetrated by gov't, IMO:

The housing bubble, CDO's, derivatives and so on - -

Stimulus bailouts; Goldman Sachs has been bailed out five times

$16T of cumulative debt over the last decade. Took something like 125 years to reach a trillion dollar debt level and 3 yrs or so to get to 16 trillion

Pension benefits beyond the available revenue

Globalism, where corporate wealth in the US can move offshore to amass more, monopolize/conglomerate and pollute at will

Open borders for the purpose of lowering worker wages and shoring up the tax/SS base

Politicians that warp the truth and/or withhold the truth to suit their agenda

More minor stuff like using corn for transportation energy, throwing taxpayer dollars at manufacturing before the work of breaking the back of the middle class is complete, meaning something like $5/7 hr wages IMO

Seventy some days to an election and the solution being proffered is 'raise taxes on the rich' and 'become energy independent and create 12M jobs'. A tall pile of BS when the debate should be what are the changes necessary for the US to be able to compete in the global economy.

Let's not hold our breath. There won't be any debate or plan
forthcoming as to that objective. The 'plan' is already in place; the US will become a global competitor when the wages of middle class workers reach parity with developing countries. The 'plan' might be called the 'New Norm'. A few talking heads are beginning to reference the new norm but it remains in the noise.

Leaves me feeling like a stranger in my own country. One wonders where are our Thomas Jeffersons, Andrew Jacksons, George Washingtons of the current era?

Up with a 3rd party w/a/d/p/a and so on- - -

Otherwise, we have the Corpocracy we deserve.

I enjoy reading Powerline; they have some great articles. This is one by Paul Mirengoff and it deals with the new documentary by Dinesh D’Souza, “2016, Obama’s America”:

http://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2012/08/2016-obamas-america-a-box-office-success.php

D’Souza presents a view of Obama that transcends political parties and party beliefs. Obama’s goals are based upon his hatred of British anti-colonialism, which he transfers to America. This movie is great and will have a real impact on the election. I want to quote a Facebook analysis of a man who watched the movie, it sums up the movie very well:

“Jill Monterey· Top Commenter (signed in using Hotmail)

Just got back from it. To me, it answers the question, Why did Obama betray so many among his base?

Why are there so many Dems ranting, I’m gay, he betrayed me. I’m Green, he betrayed me. I’m a DREAMer, he betrayed me. I want card check, he betrayed me. I want to close Gitmo, he betrayed me. I want the rich to pay higher taxes, he betrayed me. I want single-payer healthcare, he betrayed me. I wanted transparency, he betrayed me.

The reason is, these piddly Democrat-Republican squabbles are not his concern.

D’Souza finds that Obama’s aim is way beyond this two-party conflict that the rest of us Americans are locked in. Thanks largely to Obama’s often squalid overseas upbringing and the education his parents and grandparents designed for him, he takes a much broader view of America as a colonialist thief of other nations’ natur
al wealth. He has essentially projected the sins of Britain onto America. The British Raj, Churchill’s suppression of the Mau-Mau Rebellion, are examples of the crimes he lays at America’s feet. That’s why he wants to level America by reducing its military power and individual Americans’ standard of living.

D’Souza concludes from Obama’s first term that he’s just not that into them (Democrats). He used them (and a lot of independents and disgusted Republicans) to get himself into power, but he’s got another agenda all his own that is well beyond Democrat disagreements with Republicans over who pays what tax rate and whether teenage rape victims should be forced to become mothers.

Therefore he adopts progressive issues where they help him and not an inch further. For instance, when he saw some of his base slipping, he did finally evolve his own, deep, personal, individual view on gays marrying — but he also flat-out said he’s not going to put any energy into it as President.

Democrats may agree with his agenda, they may not. It does overlap theirs in some areas. Indeed, there are plenty of Democrats who feel America should be taken down a peg for the good of the world. But Obama is not motivated by the same things we mere Americans are. He’s not at heart a Democrat, or a progressive, or a liberal, or a leftist. He’s more of a sort of confused anti-colonialist.

It works for me.”

So it appears, that while the left and the right are arguing politics; Obama has his own agenda to transform America into a 3rd world nation.

Frank,

Is the “Weekly Standard” conservative enough for you?

Here is a review of the book this “documentary” is based on;

http://www.weeklystandard.com/articles/roots-lunacy_508809.html

The gist is that our intrepid author/film maker has created a vast panorama based on half-vast conclusions.

This film is proof positive that some people will believe anything.

RM, so I am supposed to swallow an article in the Weekly Standard, because it’s a conservative site? Sorry, but we are not liberals, believing everything written on a blog site.

“According to this report, “2016: Obama’s America,” having expanded from limited to nationwide release this weekend, took in $6.2 million to finish at No. 8 among all movies. To put this strong showing in perspective, consider that “2016″ nearly matched the $6.3 million debut of the action tale “Premium Rush,” a Sony release that played in more than twice as many theaters as the Obama documentary. The No. 1 film at the box office this weekend, Sylvester Stallone’s “The Expendables 2,” came in at $13.5 million.”

“In total, D’Souza’s documentary has pulled in $9.1 so far.”

The question is RM, when this expands to many more theaters, what effect will it have on the Independents? That is the bottom line.

Frank,

“The question is RM, when this expands to many more theaters, what effect will it have on the Independents? That is the bottom line.”

No, Frank the real question is just how gullible are the independents?

Michael Moore’s “Fahrenheit 9/11” is the largest grossing documentary of all time.

Does this mean that Moore was right?

Frank,

“In total, D’Souza’s documentary has pulled in $9.1 so far.”

Moore’s film grossed $23 million in the first weekend and over $100 million the first month. It also sold over a million copies the first day it was released on DVD.

If we are to go by your logic with D’Souza’s film, which BTW has collected peanuts by comparison, everything Moore said in his film was correct.

Now, I haven’t seen the Moore film, and I am surely not interested in the D’Souza film, but I wouldn’t get my expectations up too high if I were you.

Roy Ellis, should I post my reply on this thread, or should I post it as a new entry in the center column?

I think I should post it as a new entry because I have more than three links to sources. I can get all of them into a new post, but my response would not be accepted if I were to submit it as comment to your post.

p.s.
I was hoping the spam was gone. Hmmm.

Montana was granted statehood in 1889. Somewhere around the time the railroads were moving westward and gaining

the status of a person. Montana, in 1912, recognized the influence the big corporate money, supplied by nameless

corporations, had on it’s election process.

Montana, in 1912:

Section 13-35-227, MCA, was originally enacted as an initiative by the Montana voters in 1912. It provides:
(1) A corporation may not make a contribution or an expenditure in connection with a candidate or a political

committee that supports or opposes a candidate or a political party.
(2) A person, candidate or political committee may not accept or receive a corporate contribution described in

subsection (1).
(3) This section does not prohibit the establishment or administration of a separate segregated fund to be used for

making political contributions or expenditures if the fund consists only of voluntary contributions solicited from

an individual who is a shareholder, employee or member of the corporation.
(4) A person who violates this section is subject to the civil penalty provisions of 13-37-128.

Oh, gee. One hundred years later. What a difference is made!

Western Tradition Partnership v. Montana’s electoral finance law of 1912!

Let’s get back to WTP. (Western Tradition Partnership)

First we must look at the other corporations that are named in this case.

CHAMPION PAINTING, INC., a Montana corporation.

single proprietor painting and drywall business with no employees or members, and its sole shareholder

is Kenneth Champion.

MONTANA SHOOTING SPORTS ASSOCIATION, INC., a Montana corporation.

It has no employees or shareholders and its funding comes primarily from member dues and donations from

other organizations. It was incorporated in 1990 to provide liability shelter for its officers and directors. MSSA is a voluntary association of persons who support and promote firearm safety, shooting sports, education,

shooting facilities and Second Amendment rights.

Champion Painting complies with Montana law by filling out a few forms. MSSA provides a contract which stipulates the portion of funding to political parties/entities in it’s membership agreement, and a few forms.

Western Tradition Partnership is an entity incorporated in Colorado in 2008 and registered to do

business in Montana. WTP reveals no more than that about itself in this case. Evidence presented by the State in

District Court and not refuted by WTP is that its purpose is to act as a conduit of funds for persons and entities

including corporations who want to spend money anonymously to influence Montana elections.

This defies the 1912 Montana law. Corporations that contribute to Montana’s candidates for office fill out a form

and submit it to the Montana government.

To make a long story short, Montana should have revoked the registration of Western Tradition Partnership to do

business in Montana, which is their right.

All of this nonsence could have been avoided if the States would just put their foot down and stand by their laws.

We should quit sending our money to the federal government and start sending it to our local and state governments.

It is the State government’s responsibility to fund the federal government. Government is an abstract in and of

itself. Only state governments should fund the federal government. It is not the individual citizen’s

responsibility to fund a federal government. It never was.

Repeal the 16th, and the 17th amendments. All of this other stuff is moot.

WW, ‘we the (poor) people are like sand is to steel when it comes to corpocrate’s with life in perpetuity opposed to real humans.

Summarily dismissed, not worthy of a hearing…

Quote from a WaPo article: “A 1912 Montana law barred direct corporate contributions to political parties and candidates — a response to the election interference of “copper kings.” Mark Twain wrote of one such mining giant in 1907, Sen. William Clark (D), “He is said to have bought legislatures and judges as other men buy food and raiment. By his example he has so excused and so sweetened corruption that in Montana it no longer has an offensive smell.”

Otherwise, we remain in need of a 3rd party with a different political attitude.
