History proves Sarah Palin is a moron

Okay … we all know that teabaggers love to rewrite recent political history to suit their agenda and/or their abject ignorance and abhorrence of all things intellectual.

But Sunday, the teabaggers’ “I hate the mainstream media” darling once again stuffed her face in front of any camera she could find, to demonstrate how Sarah Palin - the Prophet of Profit - rewrites not-so-recent American history by thoroughly mangling the basic story of “The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere.”

On Sunday, at the actual house of Paul Revere, Palin opened her face-anus once again, and what came out was as ignorant and wrong as we could possibly expect her to be.

"He who warned, uh, the British," Palin said, "that they weren’t going to be taking away our arms uh by ringing those bells and making sure as he’s riding his horse through town to send those warning shots and bells that we were going to be secure and we were going to be free and we were going to be armed."

Warned the British?!? Hasn't this imbecile ever even watched an episode of Schoolhouse Rock? What kind of "American Super-Patriot" doesn't even know the basic facts about one of America's FIRST super-patriots?

Sarah Palin thinks Paul Revere’s ride was about the Second Amendment -- which didn't even EXIST when Paul Revere (and Israel Bissell, who made the *true* warning ride - but that's another story) made their historic rides. The "Gun-Totin' Grizzly Mama" spews and babbles incessantly about Second Amendment rights and about being "real American patriots" but she literally does not know when the 2nd Amendment was written or why, and she doesn't know the most simplistic nursery rhyme details of Paul Revere's ride. And this constantly-proving-herself-to-be-an-imbecile wants to be president.

Paul Revere wasn’t ringing bells or firing shots into the air. He had to quietly deliver the message that the regulars were coming to arrest John Adams and John Hancock. But details like those are just "silly things that intellectuals and academics worry about," according to America's foremost female idiot.

The Second Amendment to the United States Constitution - about which Palin claims to be an authority - was adopted on December 15, 1791 -- almost 17 years AFTER Paul Revere's ride on April 18, 1775.

How many of these demonstrations of her ignorance and stupidity should we allow Sarah Palin to get away with? On Saturday, she repeatedly called the Statue of Liberty the "Statute of Liberty" and nobody corrected her. Her defenders call that "picking on poor Sarah." Here's just one article that details more than a dozen gigantic screw-ups Palin made, in just ONE half-hour interview.

And every time Palin shows her ignorance (i.e., every time she opens her mouth), the teabaggers and Palindrones all resort to the same lame, singular all-encompassing defense: "Oh yeah? Well what about Obama's 57 states"? In their feeble, Fox-programmed minds, one verbal mis-speak by a visibly exhausted campaigner is the same as HUNDREDS of stupid statements by the same person, over and over, under even the best of conditions.

They use the same defense when America's other idiotesse, Michele Bachmann, dips her own toe into the pool or morondom, such as when Bachmann said, repeatedly, that the "Shot Heard Round the World" which started the Revolutionary War, occurred in Lexington and Concord NEW HAMPSHIRE, instead of Massachusetts where it was actually fired. Once again, and exactly like Palin, forcing them to sit down and shut up for an hour and make them watch Schoolhouse Rock cartoons would do them - and us - a world of good.

Sarah Palin has absolutely no idea what she is talking about ... EVER! She's constantly wrong and screws up even the simplest concepts and ideas. Yet she -- and the pathetic dullards who support her (and keep giving her money) think she is qualified to be the President of the United States.

When these idiots spew their own incorrect version of history, we have a duty as Americans to correct it. As Sarah Palin considers running for president, we have a duty to report on what she says and does - not make equally stupid excuses for her having said or done it. If we keep making excuses for Sarah Palin’s incalculable ignorance, we will have no excuse if she happens to wink and buy her way to the presidency some day.

I actually fear that somebody will eventually get so fed up with Sarah Palin's stupidity and 24/7 media self-exposure, that they'll shoot her in the head. That would be indeed tragic ... because the resulting vacuum implosion will damage untold billions in property and acreage all around her. And then her buddy Eric Cantor can withhold federal disaster aid unless we give Israel another hundred billion a year.

Remember, nobody on the left thought George W. Bush was smart enough to be president either. And as proven-stupid as Bush is, Palin makes him look like Stephen Hawking in comparison.

“It is, of course, the symbol for Americans to be reminded of other countries — because this was gifted to us, of course, by the French — other countries…warning us to never make the mistakes that some of them had made. This is a symbol, a reminder, of what it is that we can do right in the name of freedom.”

Palin made this statement at the Statue of Liberty. It was an amazing piece of jumbled nonsense- and it sounds even worse on video. The amazing thing is, Palin was not ambushed by the media into making a statement about the Statue, with no chance to prepare. No. She chose to go there. And she wasn’t instantly teleported. She rode a flag-draped monstrosity of a bus, so she had plenty of time to familiarize herself with the statue and site and its powerful history. It was an appalling display of ignorance.

Yesterday, she rode the same bus to a site just ten miles away from where Romney was making his official announcement about running for the presidency. Romney came out four square completely and totally in favor of America. Very bold. He made an attack on Obama. The crowd yawned. Even his attacks are boring and… well… they sound phony. And remember, this small crowd consisted of people who were pro-Romney, enough to actually show up, in person, for his official announcement. The crowd looked catatonic. Meanwhile, just ten miles away, the media crowded around Palin and shoved microphones into her face, and Palin said, um, not much, but it was enough to distract everyone from Romney. The distraction was a relief, really, because watching Romney is like watching a car salesman selling a car.

Republicans need to understand that failing to concede that a favorite conservative personality is a dumbass and succeeding in convincing them they’re not are two different things. As an Obama supporter, I thank God the facepalm moments are rare, and typically the result of exhaustion, rather than a more permanent form of diminished capacity.

I thought the media was unfair to Sarah Palin when they attacked her when she was new to the campaign. I lost faith in her character when she quit her job. I used to think she was just ignorant and would be able to learn. Now I see that she is really dumb or at least unwilling to learn.

I do not believe Palin will be nominated. I think it is nearly impossible. I have no confidence in Obama, but if Palin was the Republican nominee, I think I would just have to stay home for the first time since I could vote in 1976.

Dick Morris says she has a kind of ADD. When she doesn’t get attention, she makes does something to get it. I wish she would just go away. She is putting her personal desire for attention above the good of her party.

My consolation is to assume that she is actually super-smart, acting deadly-dumb to be as a lighting rod for the liberal-biased media. They attack Sarah and leave the real candidates alone. I choose to believe this is my more credulous moments.

C&J, of course what you have said has been painfully obvious to most of us since her first encounter with Couric. To think she would have been a heartbeat away from the presidency exposes a real problem with the far right take over of the repub party. She was the VP candidate for the repub party with what would have been the oldest president to date. What were you guys thinking?

She is a clown hunting for the circus. However she has one thing right when she calls those in the media, that reports as news her every move, lame. She is a diversion the corporate news outlets use to divert attention from more serious issues.

My take is she is not dumb enough. The one who made it to the WH last believes there are 57 states.

The one who made it to the WH last refers to the Marine Corps and corpes.

Sounds like someone with more ears than the number of his IQ.

Obama has done the same as Palin has been accused of doing, and that is errors of fact while speaking. Of course VP Biden has his share also. Palosi and Reid both have membership in that club. Gingerich belongs to the club. Far too many politicians belong to that club. They speak as if they are aware of facts but then speak the untruth.

As a right wing conservative, Palin doesn’t need a command of American history. They make it up as they go along.

Gary, Bush was a horrible speaker his first four years in office. The gaffs were to numerous to count. But, I give him credit for working on his problem and showing great improvement, in his second term.

Although I don’t agree that Palin is a moron, I don’t expect her to make an attempt to improve.

Tom, we expect our politicians to learn from their mistakes and show improvement in their knowledge and abilities.

That is where Palin falls way short. Instead of trying to improve her knowledge, she tries to scapegoat the media for having a field day with her lack of knowledge about basic history, among many other things.

Palin had the opportunity to show her governing abilities and she just quit.

Palin/Bachmann, the conservative dream ticket?

Right wing conservatives tend to have a very good grasp of American history. It is surprising that some of the prominent politicians do not.

One of the things liberals dislike about Glen Beck is that he brings too much history to the common folks. Liberals like to have a lock on the historical narratives.

I do not understand why you guys have to bring up this kind of crap all the time. It is insulting. I am convinced that in any kind of history test, I could outdo 99% of the liberals in America. That does not mean I do not make mistakes. When a conservative makes a mistake, you guys attribute it to stupidity. When Obama or Biden make a mistake, and they makes lots of them, it is calls “misspoke”

Anybody who does a lot of writing or speaking will make mistakes. I agree with you that Palin is not trying to learn. I will not vote for her. But somebody like Gingrich has a much better command of knowledge than Obama or Biden.

What I dislike about Beck is his misinformation, half truths and outright lies about most subjects he speaks of, including history, C&J.

C&J such sweeping generalizations! Palin is in a class by her self when it comes to conservative misspeak. Who attacks Newt for his lack of intelligence? Who attacks George Will for his misspeaking?

The rights mouthpieces such as Beck Rush may be a different story but if you live by the sword you die by the sword. Besides if you look at conservative blog sites they are filled with “liberals are stupid” and other inanities. Why are you feeling like conservatives are being picked on when the fact is the conservatives have been the rhetorical bullies for years.

Conservatives have made a cottage industry of anti-intellectual populism for decades. Now you complain when conservatives and Republicans are characterized as intellectually challenged.

Palin and Bachmann’s mangled knowledge of US history and current events is one thing. But what is disturbing is their certainty with which they express their version of history. They simply make up their version of the events to fill in their preconceived ideas of how it must have been. Some would call it confabulation.

You reap what you sow.

There is a difference between being intellectual, the way many people define it, and intelligent.

IF you have ever experienced history through the eyes of “intellectual” gender studies or ethnic studies professionals, you know that nobody with actual intelligence wants to be associated with that.

Posted by: C&J at June 4, 2011 9:10 PM
Comment #324013

C&J, people who depend on Beck for their history lessons are not intelligent. Beck uses history, distorts, and spins it to supplement his right wing rants. The most amazing thing about Beck is how quickly he can switch back and forth between mania and depression. Beck is a side show, 95% of the people don’t know who he is.

People with intelligence don’t depend on political pundits for their information or historical perspective. People who listen to these talking heads are more interested in support for their own distorted views of reality.

Reality is like a mirage, we see what we want to see.

I have seen Beck’s history lessons. He has a definite point of view and it is not the scholar’s history (which is too detailed and boring to make it in popular books, let alone TV) but it is certainly up to the standards of other popular history.

My son and I are historians. We watch lots of those history channel shows and are constantly complaining about the minor inaccuracies. Lots of what we think we know is not actually based on facts or even sources. Much of what passes for history today is based on oral history, which is not worth the paper it was printed on. Nevertheless, we accept that interest in history is a good thing. Only a few people will really go into it.

Beck is as good as the usual popularizee you see on TV. The thing that annoys you all is that is doesn’t go into the PC piety. For example, the progressives did indeed advocate policies such as eugenics and Woodrow Wilson did implement racist policies. When Beck says this, and ties the growth of government to these things, he is making a logical analogy. But it is one that is not usually made.

Nobody actually involved in history depends on pundits for this sort of information. But a lot of history is just assumed w/o much thought. And most of this narrative is based on liberal model. For example, many people assume that FDR’s new deal spending ended the Depression. This is just not true. When somebody like Beck points it out,it ruins some of the liberal narratives.

The bottom line is that you should not trust anything you see on TV as THE fact. But it can open up a line of inquiry for you to check out.

It may not have entirely ended the depression, but it certainly made the economic situation significantly better. GDP growth took off upon inception of the New Deal policies. When FDR acceded to pressure for a balanced budget in 1937 and the Fed tightened the money supply, the recovery stalled in a recession. It resumed recovery when federal spending accelerated again in the run up to WWII. The linked graph is highly instructive.

C&J, what the majority of people, who lived through the Great Depression, assumed about the New Deal was that the government actually cared about the plight of the people enough to provide programs that alleviate much of the worst aspects of their plight. They knew that the New Deal did not end the Great Depression.

Ohhh … you mean such as when Bush’s White House Press Secretary Dana Perino in 2007 had absolutely no idea what the Cuban Missile Crisis was or what context it had, and even admitted that she didn’t know what it was on “Meet the Press”?

Or are you talking about when Rudy Giullliani said that there had never been a terrorist attack on U.S. soil during George W. Bush’s presidency, but that there had been one while Obama was president?

You mean that kind of “very good grasp on American history”?

Yeah, yeah, yeah … I know … “Obama’s 57 states …”

The Teapubs make a fundamental error in assuming that government spending or taxation is at the root of our economic problems, just as conservatives did in 1937. That is sort of understandable since right wing rhetoric over the past thirty years has followed the meme that government is always the problem.

But that analysis ignores the elephant in the room, the massive collapse of the asset bubble base supporting a debt fueled consumer economy in 2008. That has left a great percentage of American households underwater. There is now a fundamental imbalance between our productive capacity and our ability to consume and purchase that capacity with expanding debt. Americans are not going further into debt, they are attempting to save and deleverage from debt. They are attempting to repair their balance sheets, to get to a sustainable match between income and debt servicing. Until we begin to address this imbalance, there will continue to be stagnant growth in the economy and high unemployment.

So many experts above that don’t know anything, except where to find certain letters on a keyboard.

So many writers above write as if they are issuing facts. Much of it happens to be opinion and not factual content. Is it any wonder we have elected officials that can’t do the job?

When it comes to facts there is too much missing. We can all find blame for something wrong or laud the right thing and give credit where it is not due. But don’t let facts stand in the way of making a fool of one’s spewing and spouting such hyperbole.

Also, this is a democracy and from that standpoint, one “expert” says she’s right and what? 40? experts say she’s wrong and retarded. Welcome to majority rule! Vote says the Quitter doesnt know what she’s talking about. Oh and personally, I don’t care if she gets elected. She’ll just quit when the job gets hard anyway.
