Third Party & Independents Archives

Sir, I'm picking up some strange readings.

Weary Willie: What’s our status, Number 1?

Number 1 : It's fluid, Captain! All systems are functioning nominally!
Weary Willie: What's the status of this link, Number 1?
Number 1 : Well Sir, given the nature of the political structure of the
Enterprise, you alone cannot expect any progress, much less a solution to
this non-sequetor.
Weary Willie: Agreed.
Weary Willie: Data!
Data : Yes Captian.
Weary Willie: Access database "James Tiberius Kirk".
Data : Accessed.
Weary Willie: Feed all current data into this database and extrapolate a
decisive decision!
Data : Yes Captain... Working.... Quite a bit of data here....
for instance this...
Weary Willie: Yes Yes, Data! Get on with it!
Data : Sir, The results are: Do not play the game.
...
Number 1 : Um?... That could mean anything!

Weary Willie: Data, elaborate.

Data : Sir, human history is repleat with episodes of rebellion. Conditions become so intolerable the people say, "Enough is Enough!". Their only recourse is to refuse to do what they have been doing. They refuse to play the game. When enough people are participating the tables are turned in their favor.

Weary Willie: It sounds like a perfectly logical explanation. Number 1, open a channel.

bleep

Weary Willie: This is your captain. We are the only people available and our civilization depends on us. We cannot let them down. The fine minds and the fine bodies are pouring their efforts into the solution. We find ourselves on the front lines. We find ourselves being the bulwork of our defense. Rest assured our sacrifice will not be forgotten as we head into this fury.

Hey Weary…welcome aboard. I wonder if we have a “warp drive” in the halls of congress and in the Oval Office that drives this lightening fast spending. Scotty…shut her down, the printing presses are melting.

Intolerable, a human condition caused by a lack of bread.

Revolution, the upper middle class convinces the lower classes to overthrow the upper class and replace it with the upper middle class.

In the future of Star Trek, capitalism is no more and Fort Knox is a museum dedicated to the memory of money and the pursuit of wealth.

Oh yes, the good old days, when men were men and women knew it. When liberals dominated WB, and just expelled anyone who disagreed with them. Oh where have they gone? Why their all over at Disgusted America, patting each other on the back.

Question: did Remer burn the bridges or will he be able to come back to WB when DA goes the way of Air America?

One thing is for certain; jane does’ comments have not changed since the old days.

As a fan of Star Trek the main theme is about science and the betterment of society. This is so removed from the mind set of the republican party that it is an insult to Gene Roddenberry that some where out in space he is most likely laughing his as# off. Science…don,t believe in it. Betterment of society screw you I got mine. Exploring other worlds can’t be any the bible says so. So just more b.s. from little willie.

Beretta9-
The problem wasn’t that liberals dominated. It was that all too many from the Right expected everybody to tolerate personal insults as a part of politics.

Where liberals failed to live up to that, they too were booted.

Some folks on the right see any move to hold them in check as an expression of anti-conservative bias. They should know better. In the real world, in good society, you can’t just do anything you want to.

The real question is, can you make a particular argument effectively with a calm delivery. If you can’t, if it doesn’t sound right without the requisite amount of personal abuse, then maybe the argument is more an attempt to bully people and belittle them, than it is an actual good idea.

I would like to thank everyone for their loyalty to WatchBlog. I’m thrilled to be given access to post in the Third Partry & Independents column and thank Cameron for granting me this privilage.

The comments to this thread seem to be evenly split between the pro and the con with the rest being neutral. The frivilous nature of my first post reflects my feeling that a weight has been lifted with the departure of some of our friends. My attempt at humor reflects a hope that WatchBlog will remain a part of our lives for a very long time. Of course, we will not always agree with each other, which is fine. I’ve learned alot during my stay here at WatchBlog and hope to expand my horizons for many years to come and hope those that left can experience a regenerated atmosphere when they return.

Thank you all! Let’s go where no man has gone before!

Stephen Daugherty, It’s hard to take this statement seriously.

“Any move to hold them in check”? Why do you feel the need to hold people in check, Stephen Daugherty. I know! There are bad apples on every side of the isle, but what is it that makes you think “the right” should be held in check? I’m more inclined to think government should be held in check, not certain citizens. People on the left can benefit from people on the right just as people on the right can benefit from people on the left.

For instance, conservative people allow a more liberal person to take risks. Enough people insisting on a stable environment will guarantee that environment will be there for the risk-taker if he fails.

jane doe,
Actually, Stephen Daugherty used WatchBlog to post many of his original work. It was fiction, if memory serves me.

Stephen Daughery, in the spirit of good will I should apologize for my very rough comment about your work those many years ago. If you do not recall this comment then I’m glad. If you do, I’m sorry. Perhaps you should post some of your works again. I’m sure jane doe and womanmarine would enjoy reading them.

Jeff may also, if you include pictures.

Stephen said:

“Beretta9-

There was no person who insulted others as much as David Remer. He talked down to everyone. He COULD NOT respond to anyone without telling them how ignorant they were. Yes, he stayed just short of breaking every rule on WB, but everyone who read his comments KNEW what his innuendos meant. If anyone was a bully and belittled people, it was DR.

Stepen also said:

“The real question is, can you make a particular argument effectively with a calm delivery. If you can’t, if it doesn’t sound right without the requisite amount of personal abuse, then maybe the argument is more an attempt to bully people and belittle them, than it is an actual good idea.”

My question is, are you speaking to me when you say “you”? If you are, you are calling ME a bully. Are accusations against me, a violation of WB rules?

I would love to read a post written by jane doe. I’m sure it would be very entertaining.

Weary Willie,
Emergency Shut down procedures are now in place as failure to play the game has caused an overload of the system.

Computing possible solution requires that a reeducation of American Politics are in order given that it is clear most Republicans do not know or understand the facts which keeps the engine running.

Thus, I hope you are willing to accept the mission to boldly seek out the Plain Truth and not fall prey to the monsters who would eliminate all political opposition.

So as you prepare your ship and crew for battle, good luck for you must know that both sides stand against those who believe Ignorance is no way to govern. And will use every Stupid Trick at their disposal in order to keep you from finding the Plain Truth and shielding Americans from the ruins of political ignorance.

Mission Control out!

Beretta9-
Let’s say I speak out for Wall Street Reform, say for splitting up the banks. If your only response is to accuse me of being a Marxist (this is a hypothetical)for taking this position, if you can’t instead just calmly explain why smaller banks wouldn’t do any good, then perhaps you’re disagreeing with me more for the group I belong to, or a personal dislike of the position, than for the quality of my argument.

When I disagree with the Republican assertion that the housing collapse was all due to Chris Dodd, Barney Frank, and the GSEs, I might get passionate in my language, but I don’t tend to get personal, and what’s more, I provide counterarguments that cite facts that read just as well calmly. I argue, for example, that the GSE’s market share was falling, that they had a lower proportion of the riskiest loans and market behavior.

That argument doesn’t need heated language to be true. If we’re looking for the cause of a bubble, we should be looking for those whose assets are increasing relative to the average, not going the other way.

The question is, how many Republicans can do this, to defend what they believe? I used to remember Republicans being the skilled debaters, while Democrats had the reputation for just working from the sentiment.

Stephen, have you read or listened to the language, accusations, and personal attacks coming from the unions and liberal democrats in Wisconsin? You have the gaul to speak to me of the things being said by republicans and yet the things is taking place in Wisconsin, New Jersy, and soon to be Ohio, as the result of cutting their budgets.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=71gsnLfsbbM#at=14

Stephen, do you support this type of actions?

http://www.dispatch.com/live/content/local_news/stories/2011/02/17/collective-bargaining-supporters-protestors-clash-at-statehouse.html?sid=101

Now tell me Stephen, do these union thugs and liberal democrats represent the democratic party? And you accuse the republicans of not fairly discussing the issues?

Yes, it is true, rhetorical violence always comes from the right except when it comes from the left. The kettle and the pot are both black.

Not so Beretta, not so. David never once called you ignorant, not once. He was consistent in discussing your comments and in describing them, not attacking you personally.

David Remer is no longer involved in WatchBlog. He resigned his position of Managing Editor back in March of 2010 and his publishing and editing abilities have been removed.

WatchBlog has several new writers, some of who applied for writing positions in the past that were ignored or declined. We’re happy to have them on board.
