Ralph Nader on a Roll
Ralph Nader will appear on Late Edition with Wolf Blitzer on CNN this Sunday, April 18 beginning at 1:15 eastern time (check your local listings).
Just received an email from Nader’s campaign announcing his launching of a campaign to call for an impeachment inquiry of Pres. Bush and V.P. Dick Cheney. Apparently it only takes 1 member of the House of Rep.’s to call for the inquiry to start the process of investigation.
There is a petition folks can sign to urge Congress persons to call for the inquiry. To sign on as I have, go to this link at VoteNader.Org.
Nader states in his email that there are two reasons which demand the start of impeachment proceedings. They are:
1. They led the United States into an illegal, unconstitutional war in Iraq.2. They misled the Congress and the American people with five falsehoods that led to war.
Ralph Nader has issued a press release urging an Impeachment Inquiry that provides more details on these points, if you want to read more, visit this section of his site.

Posted by: Lee at April 18, 2004 09:26 AMHow about the misappropriation of 700 million dollars from the Afganistan Supplimental Appropriation? I believe that taking money from the Treasury without having Congress explicitly appropriate it is illegal. The Legislature was left completely in the dark, and that is not how our government works.
Posted by: Gaelen Burns at April 18, 2004 10:37 AMRalph makes a good point that both Democrats and Republicans supported the war.
I think where Ralph’s logic breaks down is that he says on his website that the war is both the Democrats and Republicans fault, and at the same time Bush should be impeached.
Bush should only be impeached if he gave false/misleading information to Congress. He doensn’t have a “prayer” on this one since it was Congress’s position that there should be a change in leadership in Iraq because of WMD BEFORE Bush even took office.
I do think that there should be a strong national independent voice in this election. There are some pretty focal and organized people who are saying “bring the troops home now!!”. Since Kerry and Bush’s positions are about the same right now that we should “stay the course”, it seems that this voice needs to be heard on a national stage.
This voice may by default elect Bush, but if I held their position as strongly as they do, then in my mind I would feel betrayed by both parties and would not really care whether Bush or Kerry were elected.
With what is happening right now, with how the candidates are positioning themselves I don’t see Kerry being elected.
If Nader were a bit more moderate, he could really be a spoiler.

Posted by: Craig Holmes at April 18, 2004 10:55 AMCraig, there is no inconsistency in Nader’s thinking that Dem’s and Repub’s are at fault and seeking impeachment of the President.
Had a Democrat President perpetrated the same actions, Nader would be calling for his/her impeachment as well and with equal fervor. One of his premises is that Democrats and Republicans feed from the same trough of information uncritically and without due analysis and consideration as to what import that information may have upon the American people and our society, both in the short and long term. Thus, his criticism of all Congress persons who voted to give Bush the authority to wage war on whomever, wherever, and whenever Bush chose to deem terrorists or harborers, supporters of terrorists is fully justified.

On what basis then would Congress vote in judgment? Obviously using Nader’s logic, Congress failed in their constitution duty of checks and balances.
My expectation however is that Nader’s numbers should be rising. Any evidence of that??

Posted by: Craig Holmes at April 18, 2004 10:07 PMWe agree, Congress did indeed fail in its Constitutional ROLE to maintain checks and balances. In their leap to the conclusion that to oppose carte blanche war making power given to the President, they could appear unpatriotic and lose votes, they did indeed fail their checks and balances role.
Especially by not investigating the claims and facts for themselves. But, then, there was a lot of rationalization going on. The Congress was Republican controlled and non-republicans no doubt rationalized it wasn’t worth being attacked by the GOP for resisting conferring carte blanche attack capacity upon the President since the majority GOP was going to win the vote anyway.
Nader’s numbers have nothing to do with the topic. A candidate can be right on an issue, but fail as an independent to draw polls due to the “inability to win” factor.

The only reason why Ralph Nader would seem to be seen as the unable to win factor is because people fail to realize that they have a choice besides the duopoly of the Republicans and Democrats. If people would just vote objectively and not to vote for the lesser of the two evils then America can prosper. By far Ralph Nader is electable and holds great attributes in being a President. What is seen as mainstream today is the result of the mind control of the duopoly and do you want the future generations to be placed with dead ends all their life. I didnt think so because I happen to be very worried about the furure years to come and I am only 20 years old and it so happens that I will be the next Ralph Nader for the 21st Century. Now with that mentioned watch those part of the duopoly quiver knowing this battle will never end for them.Allow me to leave you all a quote of my own and one from Ralph Nader himself. “The price of lost citizenship can never be refunded but it can be given back by the people”said Joseph Mills. With that said you have the right to take America back from the corporate nightmares. Now from Ralph Nader,”This country has far more problems than it deserves and far more solutions than it applies.” That sounds like a real leader for America.
