GOP Senator: "Recusal is Something Ashcroft Ought to Consider"

The right has been screaming partisan politics all week, but some in the GOP are breaking ranks, such as Republican Senator Arlen Specter. He is calling for attorney general John Ashcroft to recuse himself from the probe into alleged White House leaks that led to the outting of CIA operative Valerie Plame. Citing obvious conflicts of interest, such as Karl Rove’s history as a political advisor to Ashcroft during his gubernatorial and Senate campaigns. Democrats have been calling for an independent cousel to investigate the matter, but this marks the first high ranking GOP official to express doubts over Ashcroft’s partiality.

Sen. Specter is an influential member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, which investigates and suggests judicial appointments.

I don’t see a problem with Ashcroft recusing himself from the investigation. It will only prove that the allegations are false and/or don’t involve the POTUS. This administration should be as forthright as possible in this matter so we can get on with the business of running the country. Let the investigation go forward…but lookout for those who wish to sabotage you at the same time. Not that sabotaging Ashcroft would be a bad thing. I think he should resign for a number of reasons.

The chief reason is that he is a bad conservative with ZERO integrity on issues and platforms of conservatism in general.

Come on. Ashcroft has no morals or dignity. He is a power hungry political beast with his eyes set on the BIG JOB. You think he’ll take down Rove? Hell, he’s going to need Rove again!

This will all be swept away in cronisim like all the Bush acts of treason. Maybe they’ll have a laugh about it at the next Bush/bin Laden family picnic… a laugh at the nation’s expense…

Ashcroft lost an election to a dead man. Is there any lower defeat than that?

Ahh but if there is any justice left, this year’s October Suprise will be the downfall of Bush and - at least - the start of returning America back to the people.

We can only hope.

POWER TO THE PEOPLE!!!
BUSH IS A NAZI!!!!
STAY ON MESSAGE!!!!!

This is just getting too wierd for me. This isn’t politics any more. It is just an endless Bush bashing contest and has become completely bizzarre.
The gloves are off. I can rejoice in this because
I don’t have to point out the kookyness of the left anymore. It is self evident.

Karl Rove helped Ashcroft’s campaign for Governor and he is directly influenced by the Whitehouse. This is exactly what the independent counsel is for. If they have nothing to hide then they should have nothing to fear or object to the independent counsel. Karl Rove is now sitting in what used to be Hillary Clinton’s old office so irony is not lost on history. I wonder how many people are checking out books on Watergate from their local libraries?

Pete,

If you’d been watching the Bush clan for the past 25 years, you would have noticed the gloves came off a long time ago. Their assualt on our country, culture and values has been continual.

Is it politcal?

Well, yes and no. Was it politcal when the right whent after Clinton? I say yes.

In the case of Bush, it goes beyond politics. Clinton ran a good ship. Bush ran the country aground.

I think we are just seeing the cusp of the rage that will envelope the nation as piece by piece the Bush charade is exposed.

BTW Pete, no one called him as Nazi here. That’s a cute right-wing move to interject something like that, but those are your words.

Repugnant

PS: Is there something wrong with “Power to the people?” I mena, Pete, the people’s power is the foundation of America.

To mock that is to make our country itself.
