People care about the economy?
It’s amazing to think, but the citizens actually care more about putting food on the table than hunting terrorists in Iraq. Would you rather feed your family or see that Saddam’s is obliterated? I’m betting you’d choose your family.
Bush’s recent tax cut isn’t producing the desired results as we now see 69,000 jobs a month disappear under the current administration. I don’t care if you’re a Republican or a Democrat, you have to admit the numbers, when compared to every other President since Truman, are staggering. Even his father managed to put over 50,000 jobs a month into the economy.
With a large exodus of manufacturing jobs, thanks largely to NAFTA under Clinton and now white collar jobs heading to India and Russia, what are we to do? Maybe our short-term memories will finally serve us well this next election by choosing an administration that cares about the economy and those who are losing their jobs and not the current one who cares only about pushing a neo-patriotic agenda.
Posted by joestump at September 6, 2003 12:17 PMYou are assuming that the President has a magic wand that creates jobs and takes them away. I realize that it doesn’t matter if that is true or not but I do wonder if you actually think that a President makes or breaks an economy through policy. If you believe that….why?
Please be specific.
Joe, I hope you are right about short term memory serving us in November of next year. I have to admit that the tax cuts have had some stimulative effect and a moderate softening of the recessionary pressures that have plagued the economy since 1999.
However, this President’s belief that creating a 12 trillion dollar debt upon the shoulders of the working middle class over the next 8 years is going to be good for the economy, is beyond belief.
He may have softened the recession in the short run, but, he has insured future government will have no choice but to take spending dollars out of the hands of workers and into the hands of foreign investors to both service our national debt and pay it down. My daughter’s participation in the work force in 8 to 10 years has been seriously ball and chained by his policies.
This is hitting home and the message is getting louder and louder — this administration is the worst thing that has happened to the next generation. Dean is reaping the support of just such folks.

I’m not under the impression that he waves a magic wand to create jobs. I believe that if that were the case even Bush would wave the wand and create a few jobs.
What I’m saying is something isn’t going right and as the President of the United States Bush has taken on the responsibility of what happens to the country under his watch.
I agree that the tax cut has helped a little (we’ve seen steady gains on Wall St. along with improved manufacturing numbers), but it’s not creating jobs (as evident by the increasing unemployment and staggering loss of jobs).
My point is that whatever we’re doing isn’t working and this issue is an issue that faces both Democrats and Republicans because those hiring don’t hire based on party affiliations. With numbers like this I’d be upset with any President for not focusing on the issues that directly affect me.
I’d love to hear some reasons why I shouldn’t care about this and rather focus my attention on “The War on Terrorism [tm]”. I’d be really interested in also hearing why the right wingers out there aren’t upset about job loss and poor economic numbers. When responding try not to put a party or name on the President or try to think how you’d feel about such numbers if GWB was actually Al Gore.

Now I want to make sure some maniac in the world doesn’t harms the nation where I earn the money to buy the food for my table.
As you see… I am a very simpleminded guy who thinks about the food in his table.
