Don't say I told you so
Since the Vietnam “Conflict” (let’s just come out and admit it was a war) the US public has been extremely sensitive to US involvement in foreign conflicts. They are even more sensitive to the loss of life in such conflicts.
With violence in Iraq escalating again how long will it be before the public becomes upset at what will most likely be our long-term involvement in Iraq? Coupled with the lack of WMD’s one has to wonder how much the public can take.
Posted by joestump at June 18, 2003 07:55 AMVietnam = 50000 dead
Iraq = not yet 500 dead…
We got a loooooong way to go before the public gets pissed off.
Posted by: John at June 19, 2003 05:20 AMMy point is the public won’t put up with us even closing in on 50k now BECAUSE of the Vietnam “Conflict” - see what I’m saying? In the early 70’s the threshold was 50k. I believe the threshold is MUCH lower now. I’m just interested to see how low it is.
Posted by: joestump at June 19, 2003 10:11 AMWhen you count the number of dead from Vietnam, you need to include the huge number of people who returned from there only to kill themselves because they could not deal with the ptsd. More people killed themselves after than were killed in the war. Over a million is the estimate. In any war it is important to mourn these uncounted deaths. War Sucks.
I am tired fed up and ANGRY. Ready for a huge change. Check our site for poetry and articles. Aloha.
