Bush denounces "revisionist historians"

Bush has finally come out to speak against the critics who have been voicing concern about the lack of WMD’s coming out of Iraq. My favorite quote has to be:

“Saddam Hussein was a threat to America and the free world in ‘91, in ‘98, in 2003. He continually ignored the demands of the free world, so the United States and friends and allies acted.”

So let me get this straight; Saddam has been a threat who ignores the demands of the free world for over 12 years? With so many WMD’s, so much money and the safety of being the head of a nation Saddam was unable to strike? Give me a break.

Whether or not Saddam was a threat (and I don’t think he was), the only way that has any relevance is if Bush is presenting an “ends justifies the means” excuse. If he’s saying it was OK to lie about WMD because Saddam was a bad guy, then what else is he willing to lie about?

He should have just said it was all Clinton’s fault *rolls eyes*

rev_matt: I think the current administrations philosophy has less to do with an “ends justify the means” approach and more “we are fighting the war on terror and here is our proof”. I think they just want to sustain the illusion of progress and movement while not really addressing the real questions surrounding the war on terror: Why were we attacked on 9/11 and in other attacks? Bin Laden answered this by saying (and I paraphrase) “get out of the Middle East and stop sending money/weapons/aid here in order to influence and run the ME”. Are supposed to believe that these are trademarks of freedom? Bin Laden is of course a crackpot religious fundamentalist, but the reason he has gained such popularity is because a lot of people in the ME sympathize and want to remove foreign involvement and for the West to leave them to their own devices.

Of course with such a large amount of corporate interests (oil), an Ally (Israel) who appears to be blackmailing the US based on how much aid is supplied to them, and now national pride on the line (9/11) Bush is not going to back down from the situation and is going to keep moving the line in the sand closer and closer to unfriendly states.
