The Green Party and the Democrats: Fit to be tied

Republican operatives, cheered by the “liberation” of Iraq and TV shots of President Bush “flying” a Navy jet, think they’re entering an era of unchallenged political dominance. “If you think about bombs and rockets most of the time, you’re probably going to vote Republican,” John J. Pitney, a political scientist at Claremont College, recently told The New York Times.

If the one-party era dawns, there’ll be plenty of blame to go around. The Democrats have formed the most feckless opposition imaginable. But today’s question is not about the Democrats. It’s about the Green Party and what activists will do to save us from the not-yet-completely-inevitable transformation of our political system.
