Islamic Terror - And Now Sri Lanka

In Sri Lanka it has been a couple of days since the horrifying bombings of Churches and hotels that have resulted in a death toll of around 300 so far. That it occurred on Easter Sunday and was almost certainly a suicide attack, has led authorities to single out a radical Islamic group, NTJ, which splintered off some time ago from another group SLTJ - an Islamist organization.

Sri Lanka suffered a long drawn out civil war between Sinhalese and Tamil rebels that turned the island paradise into a killing field with suicide bombers and counter attacks by the army killing thousands over the years and covering the island with a shroud of terror. Their civil war ended about a decade ago. Although Sri Lankans would more likely call it a terrorist movement that was carried out by Tamil revolutionaries.

That shroud has returned now in the guise of violent radicalism by Islamic terrorists who targeted Christians on their holiest day as well as foreigners in various upscale hotels. The pattern is all too familiar, as reported in Breitbart, which itself quotes various South Asian media:

Indian Express reported the Sri Lanka Towheeth Jamath is taking pains to distance itself from NTJ, condemning the Easter Sunday attacks and calling for "the highest punishment to the perpetrators." The SLTJ organized a blood drive for victims of the attacks on Sunday and used its Facebook page to offer further assistance.

Asia Times reported some infighting between Sri Lankan officials due to allegations that "the prime minister and Cabinet were not informed about an intelligence warning from Indian officials of possible attacks because of the bitter rift between the PM and the President, as the latter oversees national security."

Asia Times quoted Indian security sources speculating that "rogue elements within the Pakistani intelligence [service]" might have been involved in the bombing plot, and that some Sri Lankan and Maldivian extremists have "trained in Afghanistan along with the IS-Khorasan Province, an affiliate of the main Syria-based Islamic State."

One India reported on Sunday that several dozen Muslims from upper-class Sri Lankan families are known to have joined the Islamic State and returned from Syria after the collapse of the "caliphate." At least one Sri Lankan ISIS recruit has been accused of plotting a terrorist attack in Australia. The police believe ISIS has attempted to smuggle explosives into Sri Lanka.

The response from DoD and intel agencies will be interesting to watch. I hope there is no editorializing from Never-Trump intel types that somehow this attack is the President's fault. That would be sickening to hear, but perhaps not unexpected. Radical Islamic terrorism is a problem worldwide but how to contain it - never mind defeat it once and for all - and at what cost are not easy questions to answer. Afghanistan and Syria have been breeding grounds for terrorists from various other countries. In the first case America has expended a fortune and thousands of lives. In the latter case its involvement has been far more limited. Both lands have produced terrorists regardless. And in this latest case, it appears that both Syria and Afghanistan were the breeding grounds for the attack on Sunday.

And, once again, Pakistan's security services might have been somehow involved.

We all have the obligation to denounce this attack on Christianity itself but how to defeat the radicals in Sri Lanka is a matter for South Asian nations - principally India and Sri Lanka - to work out for themselves. America should and will help, but this does not call out for major involvement and it would be surprising if the Sri Lankan government requested major assistance from America. As well, the Sri Lankans have growing ties with China.

So be it. Let the Chinese spend treasure and blood to defend their interests on that island nation. America's military and security involvement should be more measured, while its moral support as unmeasured and gracious as befitting a nation founded on God-given natural rights.

Ms Keeley, you do understand that this attack was revenge for the Tr-mp inspired murders of muslims in New Zealand, or is the news days behind where you are? China is making a mess while building their own port in Sri Lanka. Who that port is actually going to belong to, will be decided later. It might have been helpful if the Tr-mp “administration” had stayed in the Trans-Pacific Partnership. Similar problems are waiting to be solved in other countries in Southeast Asia and beyond. We won’t be part of the solution to those problems while China has Tr-mp/Kushner securely bribed. Meanwhile Erik Prince is trying to get a contract in China to train mercenaries to, how shall I say it, help with the removal or relocation of muslims in the Western Provinces in China, inconveniently living along the New Silk Road. Millions of ethnic Chinese are being relocated there, and more will follow, since Shanghai will start going underwater in about 10-20 years.

Ed O’hrealy (who is seriously in need of some mental health care) wrote:Keeley, you do understand that this attack was revenge for the Tr-mp inspired murders of muslims in New Zealand.
How twisted is a person who blames the President (or others) for the crimes by terrorists (regardless of their left-right political leanings)?
To answer that question, you have to look no further than these racist, hateful, depraved comments by Ed O’hrealy.
j2t2 did the same thing, after the shooting at the synagogue in Pittsburgh (27-OCT-2018).
j2t2 wrote: Now you [Roy Ellis] act surprised and try to deflect the blame! Go f**k yourselves. Point the finger at yourselves for buying into the stupid propaganda you have bought into.
It’s not easy to surpass the depravity of ohrealy’s, j2t2’s, and phx8’s numerous comments, which they also claim to be very proud of.
At any rate, many thanks to ED O’hrealy, j2t2, and phx8 for being the gifts that keep on giving. Keep up the great work (which is doing wonders for winning others over to your way of thinking)!

Ohrealy you have hit the nail on the head judging by D.’s reaction to your post.

Nothing to rebut what was said just attacking the messenger is a sure sign of a weak argument D..

j2t2, I have no idea what “D” writes in most of his posts, I just find it annoying to scroll past them. Previously, I thought he was a time traveler from the 1820s, but then how would he be typing and copying and pasting? I’ve decided that he is a time traveler from our time who went back to the 1820s and liked it better there, but made the mistake of coming back to our time and is now stuck here.

LOL! Time traveler? Is that the best you’ve got?
You two are too easily entertained by your own nonsense.
At any rate, thanks again for being the gifts that keep on giving us your racist and depraved “Words of Wisdom”!
Keep up the great work. Seriously, it’s doing wonders for your credibility and winning over others to your depraved way of thinking!
