Why the Left Should Listen to the Mexican Ambassador

Laredo and Tijuana, we have a problem.

But that wasn’t President Trump saying it. Not this specific time, that is. It was Geronimo Gutierrez, Mexico’s Ambassador that spoke frankly if somewhat cautiously about the problem of criminals infiltrating the migrant caravans from Central America which have now become both America’s and Mexico’s problem.

"I don't know exactly where those numbers are coming from, but I do know we have strong cooperation with the United States to identify people that have criminal records that are coming into our region, and that just makes sense, and that's an example of the good cooperation that Mexico and the United States have." - Ambassador Gutierrez in an interview with the Washington Examiner

The numbers he's referring to are a figure of possibly up to 500 persons with a criminal background in the migrant caravans. So, while he does express cautious doubt about how accurate that figure is, Ambassador Gutierrez has clearly indicated that criminals do use caravans - and other methods - to pass through Mexico and enter America.

The border patrol have been saying so for some time, but aside from the Trump administration, their concerns have resulted in little action by any previous administration. Until recently. With added national guard and military personnel now authorized to use force under certain situations by means of a so-called cabinet memo signed by Chief of Staff John Kelly, a more active role for the roughly 8 thousand soldiers and guards could be a reality in the next few days or weeks. This active role could include things like crowd control, temporary detentions, and reportedly make quick searches according to the Washington Times.

The left will scream Posse Comitatus Act - which places strict limits on the use of the military to enforce the law in a domestic context, and which was born out of the Union forces occupation of the Confederate States after the Civil War. Are they right?

The military personnel are there to aid an overworked border patrol in their duty of defending America's borders. Not to patrol the streets of Houston or Denver or Los Angeles in search of illegals. It is assisting in the defense of the southern border, something the military is in fact tasked with doing.

The left will shout that it's a group of impoverished refugees and how the hell can you call that an "invasion"? Well maybe not quite impoverished refugees and, in fact, more economic migrants as well as those fleeing crime and corruption. And also, those who are indeed criminals and are taking advantage of this circus-like spectacle.

As the Mexican Ambassador seems to suggest.

But the left sees any border that is guarded, defended by some sort of barrier like a fence or wall, and through which only legal migrants can lawfully come to America, as unjust and to be defeated by militant activism and by the judiciary if possible. There is no common ground between those who believe in a nation's right to defend it's borders and those who believe borders need to be permanently opened up and become transit points for migrants of any sort.

Unfortunately, some in Latin America might not share the developed world's leftist views. Or those of other border-deniers from around the globe. Funny that they might consider their own nation's interest first. Maybe honest cooperation (which already has been taking place between Mexican and American authorities to a greater degree than most of us realize) between neighboring countries will prove to be the only way to resolve the crisis at the border.

It would certainly be a welcome start to solving things.

Lease land from Mexico and erect temporary asylum facilities there. No need to cross the border to apply for asylum in the United States.

Democrats want open-borders, and despicably pit U.S. citizens and illegal immigrants against each other for votes (i.e. more representation and re-apportionment in the House, via more representatives (and electors) based on population, based on a Decennial Census that does not verify citizenship), and both Democrats and Republicans despicably pit U.S. citizens and illegal immigrants against each other for profits from cheap labor.

However, Republicans have severely failed to realize (or don’t care) that Democrats are winning by pandering to illegal immigrants.

Time is running out for the Republican Party. One or more border states may be about to flip blue (Florida or Texas). Hate to say it, but it may soon be “Good Bye Republican Party”. I think Trump “gets it”, but I don’t think most other Republicans get it (at which time, their numbers in federal government will probably become miniscule).
