The Scars on The Souls of Senators Harris & Booker

Why were Cory Booker and Kamala Harris elected? To even ask that is controversial, of course. They’re smart and tough and ambitious, true. And they were able to do what it took to get elected to the Senate at a relatively young age. So, to suggest that their identities had anything to do with their rapid ascent would be seen as a “racist dog whistle” right?

But. Judge Kavanaugh, on the other hand, is of course an old (he's over 50) white male. So, he's basically a racist and it's not even really his fault, so the logic goes. He's been raised in a system of white privilege, so he has no idea how hard people like Harris and Booker have had to fight the good fight to get where they are. The horrors of Westmount High in Montreal that Harris had to endure. (It's a public high school in the tony hilly part of Montreal. Trust me.) Her brave and tortured years at Howard and U of C Law School. The slow, shameful grind through Stanford, Oxford, and Yale for Cory Booker. Stuff like that scars your soul. Right?

Here's what Senator Harris said late during Wednesday's hearings:

And I'll tell you, the racial spoils system, that term stood out to me, so I actually decided to look it up in the dictionary, the term spoils. And in the dictionary, spoils is defined as, quote, 'Goods stolen or taken forcibly from a person or a place.

Given Judge Kavanaugh's uncertainty regarding his possible use of the term "racial spoils system", Harris pressed on saying that the nominee was "very thoughtful about the use of your words and your knowledge that words matter, especially words coming from someone like you or any one of us."

And keeping with the theme that Brett Kavanaugh is older and white and therefore racist, Harris finished with a question, asking the nominee if he knew that "the term is commonly used by white supremacists?"

This relentless, if implied, assault on the character of a highly qualified candidate - even if couched in somewhat less hysterical language than her colleague Booker's usage - means that the Kavanaugh hearings have no hope of being reasonable or even thorough, because the grandstanding and insidious implications that have been hurled at Judge Kavanaugh have taken away all the oxygen in the Senate chambers for a more reasoned debate.

But that too, is what the theory suggests should happen. You must burn it down to rebuild our New World Order. Even if burning it down involves the silly spectacle of reportedly threatening a WSJ reporter with not following the constitution, as Senator Booker allegedly did. Something to do with Article 6, I think and how members of Congress should not be questioned about political events outside of the chambers.

And the ridiculousness is that no one is really accusing Kavanaugh of being a racist. It's really about abortion and preventing any possible revisiting of Roe v Wade (or more accurately Casey v Planned Parenthood) should Judge Kavanaugh be confirmed before the mid-term elections. Any tactic that can rally the troops, delay the confirmation, or launch a presidential campaign sometime next year, is allowable and preferable.

Someday fairly soon the Senate will indeed look more like Booker and Harris. Someday those future Senators will - one hopes and prays - be arguing about policy and not identity. One can only hope that that someday comes someday soon.

Because the other outcome would be white members of Congress at some point acting like Cory Booker and wailing and gnashing about their own victimized status. Please, spare us that future as well.

Kavanaugh handled himself admirably during the hearings. His was the voice of experience, reason, and logic in opposition to some members of the committee grandstanding for political purposes. Kavanaugh will still be on the supreme court when many of his inquisitors are enjoying a well-deserved life of obscurity.

My predictions about former President Obama have today become reality. He blamed President Bush for the first six years of his lackluster administration. Now, he is claiming the first two years of President Trump’s success as his own.

This guy Obama is still the most polished public liar I have ever heard. Every failure belongs to someone else; while every success owes itself to his hand.

Booker and Harris grandstanding for the presidential asperations. On a lighter side Papadopulous gets 14 days for lying to the FBI. Phx8 will love that.

You got that right Rich. Hopefully, the judge in charge when FBI officials are found guilty of lying, and more; will give a much more severe sentence.

The Liberals on WatchBlog have become strangely quiet. The Kavanaugh hearings have ended, there are no new fake news stories regarding President Trump and the Russians, and the economy is doing great. No one is talking about a “Blue Wave” come November, new trade agreements are being forged with Mexico, Canada and the E.U.

One has to believe that with all the good news, our Liberal Pals have gone underground to hibernate.

OH, wait, I almost forgot…phx8 has left the country.

This is representative of the Progressive’s nature. Liberals will project themselves into every situation whether it involves them personally or not. Conservatives will coast through, minding their own business, not worrying about what goes on around them until they get infringed upon.

Progressives are true to their name. They want progress, so everything around them must change for it to be acceptable to them. It doesn’t matter if it’s good change. “Just change it” should be Nike’s and the Democratic’s motto.
