Barbara L'Italien & The Unending Effort to End Trump's Presidency

Now we’re all getting to know who Barbara L’Italien is. A Massachusetts State Senator who’s facing a Democratic Party primary in a few days on September 4th to represent the state’s 3rd district, she’s claimed that if elected she will launch impeachment proceedings against Justice Clarence Thomas.

Yes, you heard that right. She will try to get a Supreme Court Justice impeached. As part of #MeToo. And coincidently she also mentions President Trump. What a surprise. L'Italien stated:

There is an elephant in the room for Congress in the #MeToo era. Our leaders have to start talking about it. Two of the most powerful men in the country have been credibly accused of sexual crimes and gotten away with it. Laws cracking down on sexual assault have to be signed by a president who multiple women say assaulted them. Regulations to stop sexual harassment can be struck down by a Supreme Court justice who lied under oath to counter allegations of sexual harassment. Why would victims think a government like that is looking out for them?

Did you watch the Thomas confirmation hearings? That was over 25 years ago, and I had way too much time on my hands so, yes, I watched a reasonable amount of the process. I still remember the faint stubble on Joe Biden's chin as he gaveled the sessions to a close, visibly frustrated that the Democrats wouldn't be able to derail Thomas' nomination to the Supreme Court.

I remember the Saturday Night Live skits. A little perfunctory, and only sort of funny, like a foreshadowing of the collapse of comedy under the weight of identity politics that would happen more than 25 years later.

So now we have what will be the next attempt to derail both the Trump administration as well as the appointment of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court. What didn't work with the Access Hollywood tapes will be used to impeach Clarence Thomas and try and neutralize the conservative balance of power currently in the high court, and it will be used to finally find a reason beyond collusion and beyond obstruction of justice (in case that track doesn't pan out as a solid enough reason to gather public support for impeachment proceedings among independents for example) to halt the presidency of Donald Trump.

Forget Russia. Forget Comey. Forget Cohen and Manafort even if they help soften up voter's resistance to impeachment before the midterms. Focus on #MeToo and paint Thomas and Trump as sexual predators. While Pelosi is more interested in working the corruption angle (at least before the mid-terms) and then seeing whether to impeach after she's House Speaker again, L'Italien is opening up the Resistance's latest tactic for trying to get rid of Donald Trump.

And yes, the Democrat base wants Trump impeached, and in a bad way, so it seems to be a fairly smart move to gin up her base on the part of L'Italien. Whether it works for her in the primary, never mind the election should she gain her party's nomination, will be interesting to see.

But even if she doesn't get the nomination, her use of #MeToo as an impeachment weapon will be picked up by others and will become the next stage of the unending effort to end Trump's Presidency.

You find some relatively obscure person, and claim that this person reveals the true “sinister purpose”.

William H. Rehnquist, Sandra Day O’Connor, Antonin Scalia, Anthony M. Kennedy and Clarence Thomas should all have been impeached for their interference in the 2000 election. Clarence Thomas should never have been confirmed in the first place.

“the collapse of comedy under the weight of identity politics”

What nonsense you write.

Selective Perception Bias (wiki)
the process by which individuals perceive what they want to in media messages while ignoring opposing viewpoints. It is a broad term to identify the behavior all people exhibit to tend to “see things” based on their particular frame of reference. It also describes how we categorize and interpret sensory information in a way that favors one category or interpretation over another. In other words, selective perception is a form of bias because we interpret information in a way that is congruent with our existing values and beliefs. Psychologists believe this process occurs automatically.

“Forget Russia. Forget Comey. Forget Cohen and Manafort even if they help soften up voter’s resistance to impeachment before the midterms.”

Thanks for the great example.
Why obvious lies make great propaganda:

Some of us are capable of remembering more than others. Currently reading Planet Funny by Ken Jennings, Unhinged by Omarosa M-N, which is better than I thought it would be, and House of TrAmp, House of Putain, by Craig Unger.

Watching Aretha Franklin’s funeral

I recommend reading Collusion, by Luke Harding:

It’s well written, and would be easy for even simple-minded people to understand. I started on chapter 10, From russia with cash, and moved on to chapter 11, The strange case of the german bank. One really funny thing is that when the FBI is looking for some russian criminal who has disappeared, they might as well look for him at -rump tower first. They found a guy there that had been missing for a while, he was later extradited back to russia, tried for murder, acquitted, and then gunned down by a sniper when he was coming out of a restaurant. Good book, with a good index.

There is a lot of detail from the Moscow side in this book that you won’t find in other books.

Vitaly Churkin died in New York City on 20 February 2017, the eve of his 65th birthday. The immediate cause was heart failure… On 21 February 2017 the New York City Medical Examiner’s Office released the preliminary results of an autopsy performed on Churkin, which states that the cause of death needed further study, which often indicates the need for toxicology tests. A gag order pursuant to a request of the U.S. State Department and the United States Mission to the United Nations suppressed public disclosure of the cause and manner of death, citing Churkin’s posthumous diplomatic immunity; Russia maintained that the information was private and that disclosing details of the autopsy results could hurt his reputation….Vitaly Churkin was the 5th Russian diplomat posted abroad to die unexpectedly, in a remarkably similar fashion, since November 2016, the first such death having occurred on the morning of the U.S. presidential election, 8 November 2016, inside the Russian consulate in NYC.

Vitaly Churkin, Russia’s longtime ambassador to the United Nations who died in 2017, was quoted in russian media saying he first met TrAmp in 1986 on a trip to New York with then-Soviet ambassador Yuri Dubinin. In the months after that meeting, TrAmp started pursuing business deals in russia.

Dubinin, the successor of the more well known Anatoly Dobrynin, arranged for Tramp’s first trip to russia.
