Who Leaked Kelly Sadler's Comments to The Media?

Of course it was disrespectful to Senator McCain. But Kelly Sadler’s comment on McCain’s position regarding Haspel’s confirmation being not as important as otherwise might be the case, did not seem to be a joke. It was more likely a comment on how the White House should see McCain’s opposition to Gina Haspel being confirmed as the new CIA Director. It was a simple frank statement that Senator McCain is battling a malignant form of brain cancer and will likely pass away soon. Although with a fighter like McCain that ‘soon’ might be farther away than most imagine. But that’s not the real outrage, as offended as the senator and his family and supporters surely are.

The outrage is that that statement - even if it was indeed made with a morbid sense of humor or even a vindictive sense of humor - was leaked by someone in that meeting. There are three possible reasons for the leak:

There are still those in relatively senior White House positions that are in fact closer to the NeverTrumpers than to Trump and his policies. Someone like that was at that meeting and could have leaked to simply damage Trump's administration.
Someone on Trump's staff wanted to damage Kelly Sadler's career and leaked in order to do so.
There are idiots on Trump's staff who just enjoy talking to the press about anything they think will interest the media.
It's an outrage because private and frank conversations can apparently not take place in Trump's White House without a pervasive fear of leaks embarrassing any aide or staffer and potentially ending their careers. That's not the best environment to make policy in. Yes, Sadler was a mere journalist for the Washington Times just over a year ago, and has worked for Bloomberg as an editor apparently. She is clearly on the lower end of the pecking order, but there are a thousand and one ways to humiliate a subordinate in Washington D.C. without drilling a hole in the side of the boat.

Because this leak will ensure - is already ensuring - that McCain's opposition to many of Trump's key policies will take on the haloed appearance of saintly proclamations. It's what happens when you try to throw mud on a war hero. And make no mistake, this leak was also a way to throw mud on McCain in his dying days.

Was that intentional? Was McCain a deliberate target of the leak? With Kelly Sadler as the scape goat, hung out to dry over a comment she had thought would remain with those at the meeting? Because if that is the case, then the disturbing possibility that President Trump gave a quiet nod to his staff to leak becomes a fourth possible reason for the leak.

Let us hope this is not the case. Candidate Trump was more than willing to insult Senator McCain. But he is now, and has been for more than a year, President and Commander-in-Chief of the USA. There are ways to get back at Senator McCain for his opposition to repealing and replacing Obamacare, for example. Like ensuring Gina Haspel gets confirmed. And with Senator Mark Warner - no friend of this administration - now apparently on board, someone has been doing the necessary work to try and make sure Haspel is the next CIA Director. Despite the damage done by this unnecessary scandal.

The Kelly Sadler leak was a pathetic and poisonous mistake on every level. Until we know otherwise, I will assume that it was done by someone not too near nor - God forbid - at the top of this administration.

The fish rots from the head down.

The crass comment by Sadler and the leak don’t really matter in the long run. They just confirm what we already knew about the tone and dysfunctionality of the White House. The Chief Executive is a morally depraved narcissist who constantly lies. How surprising can it be for his staff to be crass? How surprising can it be for them to be as disloyal as Trump has been to his wives and this country?

The more interesting leak involves the Suspicious Activities Report (SAR) leaked from FinCEN to Avenatti, the defense attorney for the p*rn star Stormy Daniels, who Trump paid $130,000 in hush money 11 days before the election to hid an affair… Did I mention Trump is morally depraved?

Anyway, what makes the SAR issue interesting is that two SARs were missing from FinCEN. That worried someone enough to leak one report. Where did they go? Did someone in the Trump administration attempt to delete it? Did the Mueller investigation pull it?

Any way you cut it, there are two missing SARs explosive enough that someone wants them hidden.

We will soon be reading about a great deal of “fish rot” when the Inspector General’s report is released. It appears that the DOJ and FBI may be included in the criminality along with top Obama and DNC officials.

RF,
Maybe you don’t realize it, but the IG report is likely to criticize Comey & McCabe for the way they handled Hillary Clinton during the campaign. Your concern for Hillary Clinton is touching, but a day late and a dollar short. Of course, you don’t actually care about that. Do you? A lot of Trump supporters are hoping this will discredit Comey, McCabe, the DOJ, & the FBI in the Mueller investigation, especially concerning Obstruction of Justice and the firing of Comey.

Just one problem.

The Obstruction case does not rely on what happened with Hillary Clinton. It doesn’t even require Comey or McCabe. Trump fired Comey over the Russia probe. He said it the next day in the Oval Office when he met with the Russian ambassador and foreign minister. Trump said the pressure was off. Trump said it again in an interview later that week, that he fired Comey over the Russia probe.

So while I realize being a Trump supporter requires you to turn against the DOJ & FBI, you might want to think about where that IG probe is going to go. It is not about revenge on Obama. It is about bad decisions at the FBI concerning Hillary Clinton.

Sorry to burst your bubble phx8, President Trump will never, never, ever, be charged with anything illegal, or unconstitutional by the Mueller team.

The simple reason; he did nothing wrong in firing Comey or any other actions he took. Can you seriously imagine making a case that the President does not have the constitutional right to fire any one he chooses, for any reason; or no reason, in the executive branch?

There is a criminal referral already on Comey and Muller’s buddy McCabe. He will spill his guts. It will not be pretty.

Hillary and her gang will face indictments.

RF,
Most likely, the Mueller investigation will result in a report on Trump sent to Congress. The DOJ’s of two previous administrations wrote memos saying a president would not be indicted as a matter of policy; however, that is policy, NOT settled law. Personally, I do not believe the country can function if the president is literally above the law, and only restrained by the threat of impeachment; impeachment is political, for the ill-defined criteria of “high crimes and misdemeanors,” and not a matter of law. A president in office with a complicit political party could do literally anything they wanted.

Everyone other than Trump is definitely subject to prosecution if they broke laws. We have already seen guilty pleas from Trump’s National Security Advisor, Deputy Campaign Manager, and a foreign policy advisor. Others are highly likely to follow.

Trump has the right to fire an FBI Director. The point of establishing a 10 year term for an FBI Director was to remove that person from political concerns. Trump threw that out the window, but firing a Director for cause is not illegal.

Firing an FBI Director in order to obstruct justice is DEFINITELY illegal.

McCabe has not been charged with anything, and it would be extraordinary for him to be charged with anything.

HRC will not face indictments. This is not Pakistan. We do not use our judiciary to prosecute political opponents. We did not hang Jefferson Davis nor the treasonous generals who fought for the Confederacy. It has never been done before, never even been contemplated.

Trump fired Comey over the Russia probe.
That’s not true, phx8. He was fired for insubordination.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4491822/Trump-says-Comey-lost-confidence-everyone.html

‘Having a letter like the one that he received and having that conversation that outlined the basic atrocities in circumventing the chain of command at the department of justice,’ Sanders said, required the president to act.

Sanders said Comey’s conduct amounted to going ‘around the chain of command’ and ‘is simply not allowed.’

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/05/19/us/politics/trump-russia-comey.html

“By grandstanding and politicizing the investigation into Russia’s actions, James Comey created unnecessary pressure on our ability to engage and negotiate with Russia,” Mr. Spicer said. “The investigation would have always continued, and obviously, the termination of Comey would not have ended it. Once again, the real story is that our national security has been undermined by the leaking of private and highly classified conversations.”

He also stated that dismissing Comey relieved unnecessary pressure on his ability to engage and negotiate with Russia, due to Comey’s “grandstanding and politicizing” the investigation.[12][13] Trump was reportedly “enormously frustrated” that Comey would not publicly confirm that the president was not personally under investigation.[14] After his dismissal, Comey publicly testified to the Congress that he told Trump, on three occasions, that he was not personally under investigation in the counterintelligence probe.[15]

Let’s not forget that Trump initially stated that one of the primary reasons that Comey was fired was because he had treated Hillary unfairly, particularly by announcing the reopening of the email issue just prior to the election. It was always for me a WTF moment for me. https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/national-security/comey-misstated-key-clinton-email-evidence-at-hearing-say-people-close-to-investigation/2017/05/09/074c1c7e-34bd-11e7-b373-418f6849a004_story.html?utm_term=.df0cc5250a4e

WW,
You are quoting Sean Spicer & Sarah Huckabee Sanders, who are official spokespeople for the White House. They are literally paid to say what the president tells them to say.

The problem in a Trump vs Comey debate is that Comey wrote contemporaneous notes and discussed the matters with other members of the FBI, all Republicans, who also documented with notes. Comey may have shown horrible judgment- even he would concede the way he handled the two year HRC e-mail investigation was a mistake- but he has a history of being truthful and he has documents to support his version. Trump has a history of lying. Worse, he told the Russian ambassador & foreign minister he fired Comey because of pressure from the investigation, and said the same thing, in detail, on video, to Lester Holt later that week. That quickly resulted in the appointment of a Special Counsel.

It’s not the Ukraine either, which is where the idea actually came from at the KKK/NRA/GOP convention being run by Manafort.

ohrealy,
I have faith in the strength of our system, but there is no doubt, it will be tested to the point of breaking. The DOJ, FBI, and free press are under assault. They can hold… I hope.

I can’t believe the freakin’ Russians are coming so close to taking us down.

It happened almost by accident. They attacked our election with the goal of undermining democracy, and found a candidate willing to stoke hatred and divisiveness in order to attain power. They focused their support on Trump, and incredibly, it worked. Who would have ever imagined a potential dictator would be so avidly embraced by part of the population! In a way, it was too easy. They used our technology and social media against us in a way never anticipated. They found a ready-made population that had already been prepared to follow a dictator through the likes of Limbaugh, Hannity, Levin, and most of all, FOX- and that made it possible to make an effective appeal to the darkest part of the American character, the hatred anyone not a supporter of a white, Christian, anti-science patriarchy.

China and North Korea are toying with Trump. The EU is turning against us. Today Trump answered questions about trade. I swear, he doesn’t understand the trade deficit. His former economic advisor, Gary Cohn, was right. Trump is “dumb as sh*t.” Or as the former Secretary of State and head of Exxon said, a “f*cking moron.” The CoS prefers calling him an “idiot.”

Yet people fall for this carnival barker, and they will support him even as he does his level best to destroy our democracy.

pdx8, russia played a role, but it was smaller than the role of voter suppresion in states controlled by the KKK/NRA/GOP, and the role of the FBI itself, a right wing organization. Now it looks like something will have to be done about ICE, whose agents have gone nuts and have been attacking and threatening US citizens. IMO, the next president, after Pence presumably, should fire all the ICE employees. Many of them should be arrested, prosecuted, and imprisoned. We have had all the tools necessary for fascism before, but haven’t had the fascist party in control of so much of the government.

We had to run through sniper fire when we hit the tarmac

And the most famous Democratic lie of all time!

Trump is a liar.

Okay, now feel free to post your comments about all of Trump’s so-called lies (which are only your interpretations of what was really said).

Go ahead, I know you have it all ready to cut and paste. Feel free, it’s been a long time since we’ve believed anything you comment on. Have at it.

I’m way past believing what other say about Trump. I need to hear it from his mouth before I will believe what is said about him.

If Trump said, “I did not lie.”, you would say, “Trump lied when he said he didn’t lie.”. It’s like you believe suppositions over actual statements because the real motive is to bash Trump, not get to the truth.

Hmmmm? What makes President Trump a “potential dictator?”

The way he believes that “attacking the news media is a time-honored White House tactic?”
The way his administration has “narrowed its sights to one specific organization,” which it has deemed “part of the political opposition.”
The way they have said “We’re going to treat them the way we would treat an opponent?”
Or that they believe “We don’t need to pretend that this is the way that legitimate news organizations behave.”

The way he “voted numerous times to spend money to build a barrier to try to prevent illegal immigrants from coming in.”
That he believes “We need to secure our borders”

That he supports tax cuts?
That he hasn’t tried to take away individual rights?
The way he ignores Congress and signs ‘treaties’ with nations hostile to the US and its allies?

Or maybe it’s the way he has undone EO’s that the previous President used to bypass Congress in order to circumvent the Constitution?

FFS, no wonder you guys believe in your ‘fascist’ and “Russians are coming so close to taking us down” ‘conspiracy theories.

” A president in office with a complicit political party could do literally anything they wanted.”

It appears phx8, as stated yesterday in the NY Times, that Obama used both the CIA and FBI to plant informants into the Trump campaign. Just imagine what a travesty such an overt violation of law is. Criminal action by those in positions of trust can not be tolerated.

When all the dust settles over this latest outrage phx8, will the Democrat Party still be functioning?

phx8, sorry you missed the story.

“The Justice Department’s internal watchdog has sent a criminal referral for fired FBI official Andrew McCabe to the U.S. attorney’s office in Washington.

The move follows a recent DOJ inspector general report that found McCabe leaked a self-serving story to the press and later lied about it to then-Director James Comey and federal investigators, prompting Attorney General Jeff Sessions to fire him on March 16.”
