Time Magazine Does an Epitaph on Jeff Sessions

Jeff Sessions is about to appear in black and white in Time Magazine in about a week. In a dry but fairly hostile and critical profile by Molly Ball (formerly with Atlantic) she paints a portrait of a severe and puritanical man who is isolated from many Republicans, and from Trump himself. But beyond her narrative that seems part-epitaph, it’s the accompanying black and white photographs by Phillip Montgomery that take the cake.

I am easily old enough to remember gazing at Time and Newsweek covers in the late 60's but Montgomery's photographs are really JFK-era and even invoke earlier times, in terms of their aesthetic. Because beyond the surface of her text on Jeff Sessions' constant and faithful adherence to strict law and order approaches to issues like drugs, crime in minority neighborhoods, or illegal immigration, she has a more important story to deliver for her readers.

President Trump's supposed "institutionalized" racism. For example, Ball writes:

Sessions' liberal critics agree that he's been remarkably effective. That's why they find him so frightening. He has, they charge, put the full force of law behind Trump's racially coded rhetoric.
Which is followed by some harsh criticism of Sessions by surprise, surprise, Senator Cory Booker. Near the end of her profile, Ball adds this:

By turning the Justice Department away from civil rights and toward harsh enforcement, Sessions embodies what many see as the institutional racism of the Trump Administration. He has taken the racially coded messages that served as dog whistles during the campaign and operationalized them into policy.

The conviction among his critics that Sessions is racist has sometimes led them to overreach. In February, a Democratic Senator and the American Civil Liberties Union blasted him for referring to the "Anglo-American heritage of law enforcement" in a speech. It was a factual description, one Obama had used on many occasions.

Small consolation for AG Sessions that he used similar comparisons when talking about America's legal system to those used by President Obama. He's guilty of being a white devil. Just look at those photographs!

And now we see that Trump's Attorney General has passed on - for now at least - the appointment of a second special counsel, essentially ignoring demands from Congressional Republicans. Sessions has sent a letter to Senator Grassley (with whom Sessions has clashed on law enforcement policy) Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, along with Bob Goodlatte and Trey Gowdy, outlining his view that he does not see the need for another special counsel at this point. The AG will instead rely on Utah federal prosecutor John Huber to conduct an investigation on possible FBI and DOJ abuse of their surveillance powers. Sessions must have read Andrew McCarthy's piece in National Review. McCarthy wrote:

The patent flaw in the Goodlatte-Gowdy proposal is the same one that plagued Rosenstein's appointment of Mueller: There is no triggering crime. As I've repeatedly shown, that is the condition precedent for a special-counsel appointment under the governing regulations. I suspect that is why Goodlatte and Gowdy do not discuss the application of the regulations -- they breezily claim that "the relevant Federal regulations provide" for the appointment of a purportedly "independent Special Counsel," but they do not try to demonstrate that this is so.

It is not so.

There is no certainty at all that any crime directly related to the Russia collusion theory has been committed. We have no certainty at all that any crime has been committed by the FBI and DOJ regarding their apparent (and yes disturbing) relative bias against Trump and for Hillary in the Russia/Mueller probe and the Hillary server/email investigation. There should have been no special prosecutor appointed by Rod Rosenstein. There should be no special counsel appointed to investigate possible FBI and DOJ anti-Trump bias.

Sessions is right on this one, even if you feel his position on drugs, or other issues as well, is unhelpful. And even Senator Booker admits this. But it is not really because Booker is concerned about due process when it comes to these investigations. He wants Sessions outed as a racist, before he gets fired by Trump. And the president surely will be furious about this latest decision by his Attorney General and may finally demand that Sessions step down.

So Time Magazine had to quickly ensure that they had a milestone to hang around Trump's neck. The milestone of his AG's and therefore his own supposed racism. And they have the proof! Just look at those photographs!

“Time Magazine had to quickly ensure that they had a milestone to hang around Trump’s neck. The milestone of his AG’s “

What language do you speak at home? ! A milestone indeed. From what language was this propaganda article translated? The red column should be titled Lies Told By Anonymous Lying Liars From Foreign Lands. I was scanning one of my hard drives last night, and found a broadcast that I wondered why I kept. It turns out it was from a week before the election. Sentient beings know what happened. The assange-russian October surprise that Dumpty begged putain for, turned out to be a nothingburger, so the FBI intervened on Dumpty’s behalf, told some lies, pretended that more nothing was something real significant, and pretended that they were going to re-examine what they already had seen before.

Comedy of Errors

Villain, thou liest;

Henry IV, Part I
[II, 4]

These lies are like their father that begets them;
gross as a mountain, open, palpable. Why, thou
clay-brained guts, thou knotty-pated fool, thou
whoreson, obscene, grease tallow-catch,—

Tempest
[II, 1

If but one of his pockets could speak, would it not
say he lies?

Is “Time Magazine” still relevant for anyone Keeley? Decades ago, I enjoyed reading it. Now…it is a worthless biased political rag.

“Democrats, who think history began when Obama was elected…”

That is the single biggest problem our nation faces today.
