Luis Gutierrez and The Hysterical Maximalists

Every now and then, parts of mainstream media acknowledge that the Trump administration has managed to achieve a few things that any conservative would view as positive. James Hohmann wrote one Daily 202 (his daily newsletter that focuses on a handful of issues of that day) suggesting that Trump’s tax cuts would likely be seen somewhat more positively - or less negatively if you like - as the year went by. He was besieged by Democrat activists and pundits and politicians as a consequence.

Politico, however, a company founded by ex-WaPo editors, has been a little more neutral in this regard. They broke the story on how Obama's administration slow-walked and looked past Hezbollah's criminal network in order not to undermine their negotiations with Iran on the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action. And now they have a piece, by John Harris and Matthew Nusbaum, about how the Trump administration would have been:

... in a commanding position in American politics after one year in power, with his own party firmly locked down and Democrats on the defensive.

If Trump could just cool the tweets and act more presidential. Like he did in his first joint address to Congress a year ago, and like he did (perhaps not quite as effectively but still quite well) in his State of the Union address. Of course, they go to lengths to point out that he hasn't acted that way and probably won't. As do say many of Trump's critics on the right.

How dare they?! What were they thinking for crying out loud? They're ex-Washington Post editors! Where Democracy Dies in Darkness. Don't they get it? They need to talk to Louee, as in Luis Gutierrrez, Democrat Representative for Illinois' 4th District, who stormed out of the chambers when chants of USA USA were in the air. Here's a few lines from his post-SOTUS statement:

Even if I disagreed with almost everything he said, for Trump, the speech was clear and well-delivered. Whoever translated it for him from Russian did a good job.

Ha. With some commentators - that would be MSNBC's John Heilemann - suggesting that House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence Chairman Devin Nunes is a Russian agent for releasing the memo, Gutierrez's joke feels both toxic and flat. But he saved the best for the last:

I was hoping to get through my life without having to witness an outwardly, explicitly racist American president, but my luck ran out.

There was nothing in Trump's SOTU that could possibly trigger such a response, but that's doesn't matter to those like Representative Gutierrez. That response was locked and loaded, no matter what Trump might have said. Gutierrez is beholden to his base - and worse than that, likely believes that their notions of open borders are the only just solution to immigration reform. So as far as Luis is concerned, it's no deal on any immigration proposal that does not give amnesty to far more than the 1.8 million Dreamers Trump is offering citizenship to. No deal to one that shuts down chain migration, or involves tightened border security. No deal to any administration that pushes back against sanctuary cities and states. No deal in other words is on the table, in Gutierrez's eyes.

As Phillip DeVoe recently wrote in National Review:

Maximalist immigration tendencies have long been common on the fringes of progressivism, but lately, in the Age of Trump, they have become de rigueur.

And DeVoe lists a few progressive reactions to Trump's immigration offer:

United We Dream and America's Voice consider the proposal a white supremacist ransom note.

Nancy Pelosi characterized the proposal as part of the Trump administration's unmistakable campaign to make America white again.

And back at Politico, Cecilia Muñoz compared any reductions in chain migration to white supremacy.

There is no way the Trump administration should peel back any of his pillars or narrow the focus as moderates love to say, of his immigration proposal. He has already offered the opposition far more than any in his own party thought he ever would, while at the same time insisting on putting together the elements of a well-founded policy of border security. And he has been attacked as a white supremacist in response.

It looks like there may not be any immigration deal, and we can see who's to blame. Hysterical Maximalists who cry racism at any proposal that doesn't open America's borders to the world. Or at least to their constituencies.

I saw Gutierrez get up and leave. The room was resounding with USA! after Trump recognized American heroes and this guy gets up and leaves?

Who are his constituents if they aren’t Americans? Why would he be triggered like that?

He said he had to do an interview, but he made a choice. He chose to get up and leave during a show of patriotism, a recognition of the heroes of America, and this guy decided to get up and leave at that time! He disrespected this country.

He also lied. He wasn’t so pressed for time he couldn’t have waited a few seconds. He made a choice. His motivation was a predisposition to do what he did. He chose the most disrespectful time to do it, and he did it on purpose.

He disrespected this country’s history and it’s heroes for a cheap shot.

I place Gutierrez, and his ilk, in the same level of hell as I do those abortion fanatics who advocate breaking a baby’s neck rather than letting it be born.

They are scum on the sole of America’s shoe.

It was obvious he was making a statement. I’m wondering who he was making it to, people who can’t vote? He obviously didn’t think his tantrum through. His lie, an attempt to explain it away, reflects that. He disrespected every one of his constituents, as did his party. His actions and the actions of his party, sitting on their hands, was childish and they don’t deserve the seats they were sitting in.

He’s also a creepy little man. Not that that is relevant. Just an observation.

Hispanics will cease to exist as an identifiable groups within the next three decades. They will go the way of Poles, Italians, Greeks and others.

The largest ethnic group in the USA is German. They once made up 25% of the population. When T Roosevelt complained about hyphenated Americans, he was talking about them.

Immigrants contribute to America and then become Americans.

This racist name calling is just crap. Luis Gutierrez is the real racist. He wants to keep Hispanics as an oppressed group rather than recognize that allow individuals to make progress.

Christine & John,

Shouldn’t we be asking Rep. Gutierrez to go to Mexico and speak there? Why is he protesting in the HOR? Why isn’t he asking the Mexican Government to provide for their own citizens instead of allowing them to interfere in our country?

Gutierrez demonstrated he has his priorities wrong. His best option would be to focus on Mexico’s government instead of acting like a child in the House of Representatives of the U.S.

Great story. One more reason I will root for the Eagles. I am not surprised by the level of hatred shown our flag and anthem by the Seahawks and 49ers.

“If you’re planning to watch the Super Bowl but you can’t stand the NFL take-a-knee protests, you may want to root for the Philadelphia Eagles.

Not a single Eagles player sat or knelt during the national anthem, one of just seven teams with perfect non-kneeling records, in a season that saw 684 such incidents, according to a study released Thursday by Sports Pundit.

The other Super Bowl LII team, the New England Patriots, landed in the middle of the pack with 17 incidents of anthem sitting or kneeling, wedged between the Buffalo Bills with 16 and the Cleveland Browns with 20.

Still, neither of the Super Bowl teams was in any danger of catching the leader: the Seattle Seahawks, which easily scored the most episodes of sitting or kneeling with 156, followed by the San Francisco 49ers with 110.”

That smiley Luis Gutierrez doesn’t want a wall, but he said he would help build the wall in return for passing DACA.
But Luis Gutierrez also won’t agree to anything required to stop the illegal immigration problem from repeating again, again, and again.
After Reagan’s shamnesty of 1986, the problem continued to grow, and grow, and grow 5+ times worse (from 2.7 to 13+ million).
Many Democrats obviously want wide-open borders.
A Rasmussen poll shows that most democrats think illegal immigrants should be able to vote.
However, 60% of U.S. citizens disagree.
But sancturary states and sanctuary cities with huge illegal immigrant populations are now thumbing their nose at the federal government.
A few weeks ago, the Attorney General of California threatened to prosecute employers who violated sancutary city and state laws (refusing to assite I.C.E.).
What the #ell ?

Hopefully, enough people are catching-on to the Democrats game-plan which consists of pandering and promises of amnesty and citizenship, in the hopes to grow the democrat voting base when the illegal immigrants receive amnesty and citizenship.
The Democrats have been pandering this way for decades.
Many Republicans are culpable too, because they like cheap labor too.
Pitting U.S. citizens and illegal immigrants against each other for votes and profits is despicable !

I wonder d.a.n. if any of our Liberal Pals on WB would advocate tearing down the existing walls on our border with Mexico. If not, why not?

The Democrat leadership in the house and senate should do a Reaganesque political rally in San Diego. Standing before the wall there they should say…”President Trump, tear down this wall.”

Wow…just imagine all the votes they could garner from Americans all across the country.

That would give credit to a Republican, Royal Flush. We all know giving credit to a Republican is, in j2t2’s words, verboten!

If you don’t believe me, just watch the State of the Union address.

Didn’t you see all the Democratics who started to rise and then look around to see no one else rising and then sit back down, embarrassed?
