Trump doing better than I thought

Donald Trump has nominate Nikki Haley & Betsy DeVos, and it looks like he may nominate Mitt Romney as Secretary of State. What they all have in common is that they are very competent AND they were fierce Trump opponents. My fear was that Trump would be too thin skinned to allow opponents into his inner circle or that he would staff only with loyalists. So far, so good.

Trump looks like he will be a hands-off manager. His appointees will be even more important. This is the way government SHOULD run, with smart and autonomous people doing their jobs. Maybe Donald Trump will do well after all. Let's hope.

Agree John, so far, so good. I like Romney and would never have believed he could be considered for anything in a Trump administration. Amazing.

It’s beginning to look like Trump has some superior acting blood in his genetic makeup.

Betsy DeVos will be the new Secretary of Education. She has never attended a public school. Her children have never attended a public school. She has no background in education and she has never taught.

NIcky Haley is a governor. She has been nominated to be the Ambassador to the U.N. She has no experience with foreign policy. When surrogates were asked to explain her appointment, they gushed that she was a rising star with experience in government.

Meanwhile, we have Pompeo, the Koch Brother’s personal congressman named to the CIA.

The head of Breitbart described it as “the platform of the Alt Right.” This white supremacist, Steve Bannon, is Chief Strategist. Last Friday he said:

“Darkness is good. Dick Cheney. Darth Vader. Satan. That’s power. It only helps us when they (liberals) get it wrong. When they’re blind to who we are and what we’re doing.”

Finally, the nominee for AG appeared before a Republican Senate Judiciary Committee once before. He was rejected for a federal judgeship because his testimony was too racist.

Meanwhile, Trump has made it known he may not pursue any of his campaign promises. It was all a lie. Or, as Royal Flush calls it, “superior acting.” He settled some fraud lawsuits for $25 billion. In documents submitted just the other day he acknowledged self-dealing and other violations in his Foundation, so he has broken the law there. Basically he treated the Trump Foundation as a personal slush fund.

And in a Nixonesque moment, he has declared his conflicts of interest cannot exist by the mere fact he is president. There are already cases of obvious corruption, such as the call with the Argentines that resulted the next day in all the Trump projects getting a green light.

Are you guys even paying attention? You think this is good?

My leftist friends will be happier now that they can find fault with everything again. During the Obama times, it was their fault, especially in the first two years, when Democrats enjoyed a greater predominance than Republicans enjoy now.

Leftist do outrage well and they are masters of hysteria. We can expect lots of that coming up.

Here are a couple of posts some will recall from the good old days when Democrats could be hysterical. Now they can return to type.

C&J,
Is there one thing I said that was factually inaccurate? kctim thinks it is unfair I go around quoting Trump and other Republicans. Let me say it again, and if you have the slightest doubt as to the truth of any of these assertions, let me know and I will start copying and pasting quotes:

The Chief Strategist, Steve Bannon, is a white supremacist.

The nominee of AG, Senator Sessions, was refused a federal judgeship by a Republican led Senate Judiciary Committee because his racist testimony and acts as AL AG rendered him unfit.

The CIA nominee, Pompeo, received more money from the Kochs than any else.

The nominee for Education, DeVos, has no experience whatsoever with public education. None.

The nominee for U.N. Ambassador, Governor Haley, has no experience with foreign policy.

The person put at the NSA, General Flynn, was fired for his inability to run the DIA. He was erratic, abusive to employees, and disorganized. This does not even take into account his posing with Putin at a dinner in Russia, and taking a paid engagement to appear on Russia Today television. Remember, this guy used to be the head of the DIA. Flynn has already called Islam a cancer, and stated it is rational to be afraid of Muslims.

There is nothing hysterical about any of what this. It is just a recitation of facts.

This is what conservatism has become- a collection of conspiracy theories, racism, misogyny, and bigotry, utterly uncomfortable with facts, distrustful of science and anyone who is an ‘expert,’ and dismissive of other elitists who have experience and an educational background relative to their fields.

You have interpreted facts.

Betsy DeVos has long worked with education. That she has not actually taught is not a problem. How many of the other have actually been teachers.

Nikki Haley is smart and can learn. Recall that we had Albright in that job. I worked with her. She was supposed to be an expert on Eastern Europe. In Poland, I wrote some talking points for her. They just told me that she needed something so I wrote them down in less than a half hour. She used them word for word. I am pretty smart, but I would have expected her to add some of her own expertise. I would have not just taken points the a mid-level officer threw together from memory in a couple of minutes. That is the kind of expertise she had. She read what others put in her hand.

Nikki Haley will do just fine.

I do not believe Bannon is a white supremacist. I am not sure that even means these days.

The Koch Brothers are a force for good in today’s world. They support all sorts of science and cancer research.

Recall they made Hillary Secretary of State. Her international experience was travelling as first lady.

Things will work out better than you think.

Betsy DeVos refers to public schools as ‘government schools.’ She has long worked in education doing everything possible to dismantle public education. This nominee has the potential to do terrible damage to the basic fabric of America.

Not sure about Bannon?

“… the far-right website Breitbart News, which under Mr. Bannon became what the Southern Poverty Law Center has called a “white ethno-nationalist propaganda mill.”

Mr. Bannon himself seems fine with that description, telling Mother Jones last summer that Breitbart was now “the platform for the alt-right,” a loosely organized group of mostly young men who believe in white supremacy; oppose immigration, feminism and multiculturalism; and delight in harassing Jews, Muslims and other vulnerable groups by spewing shocking insults on social media.

To scroll through Breitbart headlines is to come upon a parallel universe where black people do nothing but commit crimes, immigrants rape native-born daughters, and feminists want to castrate all men. Here’s a sample:

“Hoist It High and Proud: The Confederate Flag Proclaims a Glorious Heritage” (This headline ran two weeks after a white supremacist massacred nine black churchgoers in Charleston, S.C.)”

The article goes on to list similar examples, but even one headline like that, even one time in a lifetime, is damning.

http://www.nytimes.com/2016/11/15/opinion/turn-on-the-hate-steve-bannon-at-the-white-house.html?_r=0

The Koch Brothers fund Global Warming Deniers.

Governor Haley might have been a good nominee for some other domestic cabinet position. She might even have worked as the U.N. Ambassador if she were sesrving a president who knew something about foreign policy. But he does not, and neither does she. Most of these nominees are either in the wrong post (Haley), or disqualified by their ties to white supremacy (Bannon, Sessions, Flynn for his Islamophobia).

C&J, Candidate Trump has set the bar high for president elect Trump. He made big promises and many of us expect him to keep those promises. One such promise was to drain the swamp in DC. Yet it seems instead of draining the swamp he has for the most part brought up the bottom feeders.

I think there’s a difference between least qualified and inexperienced. I’m all for inexperienced. In fact, that’s why I supported and voted for Trump.

I can’t see the logic in campaigning on a promise to change Washington D.C. and then hiring people who will be business as usual. That’s the same as not changing anything.

Trump looks at the U.S. Government from a different perspective. He ran on that perspective. I expected him to hire people who have an outsider’s perspective, also.

Otherwise, what’s the point?

Using DeVos as an example Weary she is a DC insider. Just not from the actual work of government side. She funds many special interest groups, the source of the corruption problem in DC. So as I stated, IMHO he has for the most part hired bottom feeders to do the work of government. All this pick does is cut out the middle man.

Devos supports clean energy and clean water, so I would think you could support her, j2t2. Aren’t you for clean energy? Devos also supports school vouchers, tax credits, and school choice, which are probably a major selling points considered by Donald Trump.

Her special interests are centered around educating children and giving parents a choice. She’s qualified to head the department of education and focus it on the students instead of the administrators.

I don’t think it’s funding special interest groups that is the problem, j2t2. I think it’s what the special interest group do with the money that defines it. I don’t think she’s the type to give money to politicians so they will maintain the status quo.

Who did you get the memo from that said to call everyone bottom feeders? Perhaps it was the person who thinks the middle man is a good thing, yes? Politicians are middle men, aren’t they?

Now I see his supporters telling us “cleaning the swamp” means “she only worked there 6 years”. WTF is wrong with you guys? You are allowing someone who has fascism and authoritarianism written all over him to have his run of the country. You are telling us the fix for government is putting the “least qualified or most unprincipled citizens” in charge of the federal government.

Would you guys even recognize corruption if it bit you on the a**? I mean you guys seem to think if we get anyone that isn’t from DC into some position of importance we have solved the problem. Are you really that dense that this works for you?

Weary I also find it ironic that the ignorant twit of a president elect loses the popular vote by over 2 million votes yet tweets happy thanksgiving insults and calls others losers. Hard to think of unity isn’t it?

Then of course there is the “let me get this straight” moment when one realizes the guy that just settled a fraud case against his very own Trump university for 25 million dollars is picking the next Secretary of Education. Then you tell me “Her special interests are centered around educating children and giving parents a choice. She’s qualified to head the department of education and focus it on the students instead of the administrators.” And I just have to say WTF were you thinking Weary when you voted for this guy, and now you are trying to justify his pick for a cabinet position with this drivel.

All you can do is carp about your opponent. So much for unity and working together. Didn’t you spend 8 years telling Republicans they have to work with Obama? It sounds like you are waiting for a Trump decision and then whining about it right out of the gate. You’re also whining about them being billionaires! Bottom Feeding Billionaires! Right!

Holding Trump accountable for his decisions isn’t “carping” Weary. Why would you think Trump would get a free ride on unity when repubs spent the last 8 years doing just the opposite. What has Trump done to earn any unity other than calling people losers? He doesn’t want unity despite what you believe.

Don’t elections have consequences any longer, j2t2? Sore loser!

Yes so now is the time the people have spoken, the people not the electoral college, and it is time to confirm Garland for SCOTUS. Time to unify the people. Time for Trump to do the right thing.

Boy oh Boy, when I was saying the Electoral College might not give it to Trump your side was carping about how Trump can’t accept the results of the election. Now, when the shoe is on the other foot, and Hillbilly is the one who can’t accept the results, you’re bringing up the Electoral College!

Hillbilly said she would accept the results and challenged Donald Trump to do the same. The media made up story after story of how Trump was going to cause all kinds of problems because he said he’ll wait to see the results.

Look what’s happening now! Perhaps Hillbilly forgot her caveat. Perhaps she should have said she would accept the election if she won, because it sure looks like she isn’t accepting it now that she’s lost!

What a bottom feeder she’s turning out to be.
