The PC threat to civilization as we love it.

Political seasons come and go. A more pernicious and persistent threat is political correctness. Chrissy & I recently returned from a trip to Italy, where we admired some of the wonderful achievements of the ancient and Renaissance world. It occurs to me that none of the cosseted college students could safely visit Italy and none could understand the cultures of Rome, Florence. A person seriously infected with political correctness could not appreciate Leonardo Da Vinci or Michelangelo. He/she/it cannot even look at most great works of art or read literature. It is hard to think of any one of them that is not offensive, that would require a trigger warning.

We can laugh off the PC crowd, maybe even support many of their ostensible goals. We can dismiss them as deplorable but generally harmless little twerps, who will learn better when they grow up, but we cannot but deplore the the means they employed to bring about their vaguely envisioned paradise.

If our PC friends would study the histories, literature and arts of the past, they would learn that it was people like them who were the oppressors. The people who tried Galileo, burned witches and poisoned Socrates all did their evil out of what they thought was their goodness, their perceived need to protect their societies from ideas that were harmful and dangerous. Maybe that is what they really fear. They know that if they really read and understood the great classics, that they would be the villains, the oppressors, the inquisitors.

Face the fact. If you major in African-American or Gender studies you are going to college to make yourself stupider. if you study literature from the a racial or ethnic point of view, you are narrowing your mind. And if you are afraid that words will harm you or trigger horrible feelings, you are are not good enough to go to university.

The greater danger is from conspiracy theory that leads people to believe things that are counterfactual to reality. When you have this guy saying the vote is being rigged, he’s not just playing the victim, he’s undermining the confidence of people in our system, without cause or evidence to justify it.

What happens when people start to believe that sort of stuff? Nothing good. Either it drains them of the will to deal with the system, or it convinces them to do something stupid against it. Worse still, this is how you create movements that think that they are entitled to take over.

PC? Most liberals don’t care too terribly much about it. But we do believe that our nation’s ideals of equality, especially before the law, should be upheld, that constitutional protections aren’t just guidelines. We think that playing a two-faced game about treating white people one way, and black and latino people another, is just a violation of the integrity of our nation’s ideals

There is a certain amount of PC, you could say, that is demanded by our Constitution.

Political correctness is definitely one the most serious problems we face today. It is used to condition and control behavior with promises of special treatment for one group over another. To create victims where none exist. To force one political agenda onto all. To rewrite history and destroy one culture in order to ‘progress’ to some Utopian future.

Now that we have entered the legislative process of political correctness, we can expect to be even more divided.

Some of the books I read and cherished as a child are now banned from public schools for various PC reasons. I will list only one and ask my buddies to list one also.

Jerry Seinfeld said college students don’t understand racism and sexism. “They just want to use these words: ‘That’s racist;’ ‘That’s sexist;’ ‘That’s prejudice.’ They don’t even know what the f—k they’re talking about.”

Absurdity reigns;

“The National Union of Students Women’s Campaign, a feminist college student group in Britain, announced in March 2015 that they would ban clapping at their future conferences held at UK colleges.

The feminist group claimed that the act of clapping could “trigger some people’s anxiety,” and therefore should be banned from all of their conferences. Instead, the feminist students instructed those who attend conferences to use jazz hands—to wave their hands silently in the air—when they wished to display approval.”

UCLA professor Val Rust in a graduate-level class had students so offended by having their grammar and spelling corrected that they staged a sit-in protest of the class. Twenty-five students sat in a graduate class and disrupted Professor Rust’s planned lecture by reading a group letter aloud. The letter claimed that the grammar and spelling corrections were creating an unsafe climate for students of color. While reading the anti-grammar letter, one student protester began to cry. “I’m tired, and it hurts me so much,” she said.

I ask my Liberal Pals, especially Mr. Porter, to consider the disadvantage of students graduating from PC dominating colleges and universities today.

Just imagine these graduates, with language and thought correctness drummed into their mushy skulls, competing in the world with no professor or mentor there to shield them from reality?

In the real world of business and commerce these PC cripples will be bludgeoned with their own stupidity. No one will give a shit if they yell “sexist”, “racist”, “homophobe”, or any other vile name used by the Left to disparage others.

Consider the absurd PC ideas. You can get in trouble for white privelge, fat shaming, micro aggression … I wish it would not be so easy to ridicule, but it is because some of the little fools believe it.

Burger King has a harassment policy. It’s designed to keep them out of court. It’s tailored around the snowflake’s idea that feelings need to take precedence over social interaction. Even at a platonic level speech is regulated.

I like getting compliments, but everyone is denied that luxury because someone in public life or in the media wants to grease the squeaky wheel.

The wheel is actually attached the hearse carrying our first amendment. What does the freedom of speech mean if it’s definition includes the regulation of certain words or the punishment for bruising someone’s feelings?

Do you want to see political correctness at work?

If the people who instigated this apology think they can get away with this, how far will believe they can go?

Why was that even considered news? Would it be news if a neighbor berates a 5 year old on their porch for wearing pilgrim costume?

I suppose it would, but when was the last time you heard of anyone doing that?

PC is more propaganda and brainwashing than it is a problem solver.

CJ,there are many absurd occurences in life, I dont’t pay much attention to them unless it could affect me personaly. If that does occur I would rather mitigate those effects. I understand if you consider this as some grevious affront to your liberty, I do not hold that same opinion.

My feelings are that almost anyone that could be that easily offended would be wise to limit their interaction with others, if only for their good.

Do you understand why that costume made some indigenous Americans uncomfortable?

Republicans are afraid that Democrats and Liberals are winning the battle to shape the social landscape. That simple. That is the threat they see. They see the old order as a guard against threats like terrorism and the like.

Can I propose something here: I think the internet can sometime seduce us into thinking our part represents the whole or the majority of what opinion on a given thing is.

Perhaps things are not as this limited world would have us believe.

It can be compared to a music selection on one of those internet radio things. You pretty quickly get to a point where all your music becomes pretty similar, if you don’t get in there and start making fresh, novel selections, diversifying your mix.

The truth is, America’s mix is diversifying whether you like it or not. You can adapt to that, or let it destroy you. It will destroy you if you resist it. I don’t say that as a threat. Even if nobody else immigrates, ever again, America’s demographics are going to be majority minority by the middle of this century. If the Republican party is still offending the living hell out of all the minorities, if it’s still on Trump’s trajectory by that time… it won’t be able to win elections.

Here’s a little secret: There is always a cycle going on of multiple cultures melding to become a composite different than what came before. Let things take their natural course, welcome and embrace people, and embrace your own freedom to do your own thing, without worrying about the need to dominate others in order to ensure that your religion, your race, your gender will have breathing room.

Let America take care of you. If you hold onto your rights, treat others equally, respect others, then you are much more likely to be spared whatever inversion of historical prejudice you fear.

We have a national holiday based on what those costumes represent. Do the people who are butt hurt over these costumes want to abolish the Thanksgiving Holiday? I wish they would be honest and state their true purpose, because I understand juvenile behavior when I hear it and to be mentally unbalanced by these costumes is just that.

If you think Thanksgiving is about dressing up in costumes that caricature people’s culture, then you don’t know what Thanksgiving is about.

Thanksgiving is about being grateful for all the good fortunes in one’s life. These values are not reflected in costumes that mock the cultures of Calvinist Pilgrims and Indigenous Americans. Rather, those costumes symbolize colonialism and oppression.

It was Halloween, Warren Porter! Geesh! Don’t you and your juvenile perpetual crybabies have anything constructive to whine about?

Gawd, you yawn while our government bankrupts itself, but give yourself a stroke over a Holloween costume!

Your priorities suck, Warren Porter.

It appears to be such a variety of experts are getting sluggish nowadays. For example, I have discovered lawyers drawing up printed material for me, which just duplicated standard expressions and dumped them into my business contracts.
