Does Putin Want a Divided GOP?

Is the mostly-hawkish defense and foreign policy establishment doing Putin’s bidding by attacking Trump?

Consider this: what if the goal of Russian cyber attackers is not as granular as giving Trump a boost and trying to ensure Hillary Clinton does poorly in the November election? What if the main goal is to exploit partisan divides by encouraging and inflaming a GOP civil war? And ensure that lots of shouting and accusations - both intra-party and across the aisle - that undermine the very electoral process itself. Especially the confidence Americans should have in their electoral system as a near-sacred institution.

Yes, Trump has attacked and criticized policy positions on NATO, on the Middle East, and on nuclear weapons (in private at least). And that has understandably provoked an angry reaction from the foreign policy and defense community. But when his critics within the GOP denounce him as unfit to be commander in chief, doesn't this further erode confidence in the presidency itself?

This is really about process as much as substance. That Trump would have his critics given his comments and policy positions, is unquestionable. It's how the country as a whole moves forward with Trump as the GOP nominee that's at stake. There are ways to mark out significant disagreement without branding your opponent as a madman.

And that's the question. Is, for example, Lindsay Graham a true patriot with courage for taking on Trump in no uncertain terms? Or his unquestionable love of country being bent back towards America like a heat-seeking missile going after the wrong target? If one truly believes that your opponent is crazed, then it's the former.

Here's the problem with that. No one accused Trump of being erratic, unstable, dangerous, etc. until he ran for president and began to take policy positions that threatened elites. They may indeed be the wrong policy positions in some cases. But self-interest in preserving their power and influence - and you betcha, money - is a strong motivating factor for those who brand Trump as unfit. And that doesn't just play right into Hillary's campaign.

It might, in fact, also be just what Putin and his FSB-run state wants. A divided, angry America. Those who strongly disagree with Trump need to signal to America's foes that any division within America is secondary to the unity America has always, and will always, present in the face of those hostile to her unique republic. Hopefully, those signals will come by the time we get to November.

Keely, while we are busy watching the olympics and, Trump/Clinton changing jabs, Putin has been busy building up biggly in Ukraine.

We are likely to see more takeover of that area within six months of Trumps presidency. I do hope we are preparing. Like, putting a gov’t in Syria and Yemen that would push Putin’s Navy out to sea. We could have asked Turkey to help out in the Bosporus but that was before Obama and the 50 GOP security EXPERTS allowed Turkey to go bigtime Islamic.

Otherwise, we have the corpocracy we deserve.

Completely 100% wrong. Drumpf was well known as a liar, con-man, huckster, bankrupter, and all around fool long before this. He’s also never going to be POTUS, and probably doesn’t even want it. He’s just taking you for a ride on his ego train.

oraoghile, I’m anxious for the debates as that should give us real good insight into both candidates.

I do think more emails will come out that pretty much leaves Trump as the only candidate standing.

Jesus Roy what emails do you think will make Trump the most viable candidate! Hell at this point she could admit to butt f***ing Reagan while giving Bin Laden a blow job and still be the most viable candidate. She could admit to any and all conservative conspiracy theories and still be the most viable candidate. What exactly are you hoping for in whatever emails your guys can produce?

Conservatives seem to be so far removed from reality that they believe Hillary Clinton is the person they have tried to make her out to be. How long do you guys carry on the charade? Why not run on issues… oh yeah…. sink the country while you wallow in the mire of days gone by.

I personally can’t wait for the child molestation charges against Trump come November. That ought to put the conservatives back on their heels a bit as they swallow their integrity and cast their ballot for Trump.

I was going to post that I wasn’t sure what planet people were writing from. The emails are already proven to be nothing. The media has already figured out the Outrage/headlines/denial routine of the Drumpf campaign. So now what happens? We wait for Assange to come up with another conspiracy theory? For the Russian government to interfere on Drumpf’s behalf?

j2 and oraoghaile, what can I say? Let’s see;;;; Hillary Clinton is not Jimmy Carter. How’s that for a starter.

If Carter’s daughter was to run for Pres I would vote for her fer shure as in apples don’t fall too far from the tree.

Now, Pres Carter probably has an NGO or some charity in which he has considerable communications with gov’t aid agencies.

So does Hill and Bill. But, somehow, it’s not the same. I could see Carter, as an ex pres, getting 50 - 76k for a speech but what is this with Bill knocking down $700-800k per chat. What could he possibly know or do that Carter couldn’t, and so on - - -

Noteworthy too, that Bill didn’t start getting the really big bucks UNTIL Hill became DOS.

If I see a risk, based on my eyes, intuitition, processed information, gut feeling, and so on I will try to avert it.

Both these candidates come with risk, IMO, Like, what is so important that one would risk national security to hide their emails, destroy gov’t files and so on - -

The other candidate is a risk because he may embarrass us as a country once in a while.

Either candidate would not be the best or the worst president we’ve had, but Trump is, by far, the lesser risk, IMO.

It’s that simple. There are only two candidates and only one can be pres.

Otherwise - - -

Roy you seem to be confused, GWB isn’t running for office, it is Donald Trump that will have his finger on the button. It is Trump that will be Commander in Chief should you have your way. Trump has shown he hasn’t the temperament to be Commander in Chief yet you give him a free pass when you try to convince us he is less of a risk than Hillary. Trump has been easily manipulated by the dems, the case of the father of the Muslim solider being an example. He doubled down on stupid instead of manning up. Your integrity is diminished when you try to convince us this is the man you want to be Commander in Chief.

So does Hill and Bill. But, somehow, it’s not the same.

SO let me get this one straight Roy, your logic is based upon Bill and Hillary earning large sums for speeches, which is some how a conspiracy in your mind, yet you give credence to someone who will not release their tax returns? Someone who has told you he used his money to influence most of the repub candidates for president while they were elected officials!

If I see a risk, based on my eyes, intuitition, processed information, gut feeling, and so on I will try to avert it.

Well that explains a lot Roy I notice you don’t mention facts or provable information as consideration in the decision making process.

j2, I expect Trump to be a better president than GWB, GWB was an open borders pres, fought two wars on a CC and set us up for the housing bubble/great recession and all that. Being a full blown globalists was his greatest achievement.

Surely Trump can do better. If he can just stick up a brick or two on the border he should be seen as outperforming GWB.

Otherwise - - -

And Drumpf has already admitting that he’s just messing with everyone, through his outrage/headlines/denial strategy, yet his “fans” are taking him seriously. Seriously?
