Build those pipleline, railroads & energy infrastructure

The fracking revolution is the most important positive development since the fall of the Berlin Wall. It is a true stimulus and a sustainable one. Our economy is really living on this stimulus and better is to come. Even high paying blue collar jobs are coming back. We need to embrace the fact that we are back as an energy superpower and build the infrastructure to make it a reality.

The good news is that we just have to let it happen. Almost all the energy infrastructure can be built by the private firms that want to furnish energy to the American people and the world. All we need do is let them do it.

Fracking is as close as I have ever seen to a gift from God to the United States of America. We have a golden opportunity to bring back our economy, our country and further freedom in the world. Just say yes.

No, not the Pipeline from Canada, which Canada itself doesn’t want to risk running to its own W. Coast for purchase by the Chinese. Too environmentally risky. Why should Canadians suffer the consequences when Republicans in America will assume all the risk for Americans for a bit more profit in their portfolios, not to mention election contributions by the profiteers.

Otherwise, I agree, let’s build the infrastructure that will allow our economy to grow as we continue further our efforts to better protect our environment for our children and theirs.

Last I heard, the Canadians are pushing for the Keystone pipeline, but I was actually referring to smaller infrastructure that we neglected to build and now should catch up. As I wrote, private firms are willing to finance most of it if we just let them.

They are building a natural gas power plant near my land in S Virginia. They gave me $200 to use my road for their pipeline I would have let them do it for free. They repaved it with gravel and left it much nicer than the nearly impassable mess it was before. Personally, I prefer no progress at all, since I like the woods the way they are. I don’t need a new job and benefit mightily for the way things are w/o the changes. But I know that other people need jobs and we need cleaner energy so I guess it makes sense to put it in my backyard. We all need to look at the bigger picture.

CJ, read again. Of course they are pushing for Keystone, it avoids that dangerous pipeline traveling across Canada to their West Coast for shipment to China. They aren’t dumb. If Republicans want to assume the risk of the pipeline crossing the U.S., why would they object. They still make their profit on its export, without the risk of the pipeline crossing to the W. Coast of Canada. Let the spills and headaches occur in the U.S. instead of Canada.

Pipelines are the safest and most efficient method of moving fossil fuels, and TransCanada has one of the best safety records in the industry. There are more than 2.6 million miles of oil and natural gas pipelines in the United States that deliver 99.9998 per cent of their products safely and reliably every day. The State Department’s own environmental impact statement found that Keystone XL would operate with a degree of safety greater than any other pipeline in the U.S.

Keystone XL Pipeline will be the newest and most technologically-advanced pipeline built in the United States to date. TransCanada has voluntarily agreed to incorporate 57 special safety conditions into the design and construction of Keystone XL, including a higher number of remote-controlled shutoff valves, increased pipeline inspections, burying the pipe deeper in the ground and using thicker steel pipe at river crossings.

Odd, isn’t it, that this pipeline is proposed, not for America’s retail consumption, but, for China’s, and Canada wants the U.S. to bear the risk for the pipeline in order to reap its profits. Our refiners will have a profit stake in the exports, but, that hardly warrants the extreme danger that is posed by this particular kind of crude should it ever breach the pipeline. There are seismic zones along that route, some of which have only shown up in the last few years. There is no cleaning up this kind of crude when it spills. And that pipeline will breach one day, potentially affecting very large numbers of Americans even 100’s of miles away from the breach given the toxicity to water should the two come into contact.

And yet Royal we still have serious problems transporting oil.

Because the reason for this pipelie oops pipeline is to get oil to the gulf for transport overseas it seem to me we are only keeping prices higher here. The people of this country gain no mid or long term benefit yet are asked to take the risk of potentially tainted aquifers amongst others for nothing. IN the short term existing refiners may get some work but that will only may these refineries more of a bottleneck causing prices for gas to rise even higher.

I say build two additional refineries at the end point of the pipeline and tax the crap out of every inch of pipeline and every ounce of oil that passe through the pipeline heading overseas.

The threats we hear from the Canadian government! Why are they threatening the American people with the inevitable quasi terrorist attacks on our country over private business desires to exploit this country? Killing 72 of their own with these oil bombs by train! Where is the conservative outrage over this? I guess this type of bullying is alright as long as it is a conservative led government doing the threatening for corporations.

David, yes amongst other things. The spill when the pipeline burst, accidents at the new refineries, spills in the gulf from the tankers. Some of the tax money should go to research for other forms of energy as well,IMHO.

They gave me $200 to use my road for their pipeline I would have let them do it for free.

Chump change C&J, should there be problems in the future with the pipeline Many years in court, loss of use of land, giving up right of way to future needs of the pipeline. Sometimes even the best of intentions ends up for the worse. We have natural gas and oil pipelines and military communications lines going every which way around here. Some of the local rancher and farmers have been in court for decades trying to recover from one incident many year ago. Their property has been devalued due to right of ways granted year ago.

Re the $200 - I didn’t think it was big money. I would have let them use the road for free. The big benefit to me was that they repaved it.

This deal/project is 5 years in the making! A recent governmental study by the US state department (the second such one!!!) makes the case to go forward with this important project.

The president’s waffling on this issue shows extreme partisan politics and trumps reality and what’s best for the country. Unions say BUILD IT! ; environmentalists say IT’S too DANGEROUS!

Pathetic!

For the president to not make a decision on this for over FIVE YEARS reveals a lot…and no, DR, this does not constitute deliberate introspection on the president’s part. It shows how political Obama is; it also shows how he despises all fossil fuels, even though he seems to always mention his now ubiquitous: “I believe in an ‘all of the above’ energy policy” during most of his speeches.

Yet he never follows through, and in fact, directs his EPA head to surreptitiously write laws contrary to popular science and/or the will of the people. The Keystone XL pipeline project cannot be denied given all of the ‘pros’ versus all of the so-called ‘cons.’

One can jump up and down like a petulant child all one wants in protest; however, it will be to no avail.

Like Royal stated above, technologies are enormously advanced these days, contingencies are developed; but most of all, this will lead to a growing economy and less dependency on foreign oil as well as a better partnership with our northern friends.

I simply cannot believe that Obama hasn’t approved this a few years ago. This time, however, Barack is out of good excuses to delay this any longer.

And btw, a LARGE group of powerful Democrats are pushing for this project too, not just a bunch of uncaring right-wing Republicans.

And finally, for all of those who believe we can use ‘alternative’ energy sources to supplant fossils fuels, I say, get rid of your car, don’t ever fly, forego any small-engine equipment and turn off your heat. And put your money where your mouth is and pay the market rate for “Green Energy” sources as they now stand.

Good luck with that!

Weary and Kevin, the left is constantly telling us the conservatives and republicans offer no substitute plan to replace obamacare. At least a plan they would agree with.

We conservatives tell the left that we too want a healthy planet and are not in love with fossil fuel…we just recognize that there is nothing presently available to replace it.

Just as with obamacare the left’s answer to meeting our energy requirements, without fossil fuel, involves more loss of our freedom and huge costs. We lose some freedom every time government dictates that we must purchase a product or service or pay a penalty.

The left considers human beings as nothing more than a virus that infects the perfect world that exists in their minds. They have absolutely no problem with the death of 50 million babies since the passage of Roe v Wade; but abhor the idea that human beings would eat whale meat. They deny the existence of God; because if God existed, then he placed man on an earth filled with natural resources, i.e. fossil fuel.

If the left could only figure away to eradicate human beings, this world would be a perfect place for animals and trees to exist. But, let’s look at the bright side…abortion kills more leftist and minority babies than it does conservatives. If it wasn’t for the sin of murder, it would almost be a win/win situation; leftist and minority babies inherit heaven and the world is rid of future socialists.

Facing the possibility of starving to death, as people do in the left’s socialists countries, I wonder how long it would take for Remer or the rest of his cohorts to bite into a whale steak? Or perhaps facing a death of freezing; how long would it take them to fire up the oil burning stove? They are socialist idealists who’s only goal in life is to force their perverted views on everyone else.

Kevin, the issue is one of risk reward for the American people. Assuming the risks for the pipeline without balancing with compensatory rewards is a foolish concept for even Republicans. When you dig down to motives on this issue, they are plain for those seeking them. Republicans are protecting their campaign contributions from the fossil fuel industries and environmentalists are wanting to protect the environment and human living conditions for themselves and their children, and Democrats are protecting their lobbyist interests. Environmentalists believe political gains don’t warrant jeopardizing public health and welfare. Both Democrats and Republican elected official reject that belief, and seek to protect access to power first and foremost, on the argument that without access to power, one cannot influence for better policy.

The politicians are the puppets of those with something to lose. Hence, Republicans have sided with the fossil fuel industry and Democrats with the environmentalists. In the long run, the environmentalists have to win this debate, if the environment is to be protected for everyone’s benefit. If the fossil fuel industry wins, their shareholders reap the profit rewards, but, those shareholder’s short sighted regard for profit will cause them to suffer the consequences of a degraded human environment and its many ripple effects, along with everyone else.

David, nice story, but they just don’t hold up to the facts.

The oil is going to be transported to the refineries. If not through the pipeline, then aboard trucks and trains. The study identified that if that happens, it would be more dangerous to the environment, both environmentally and ecologically.

So either you are against the pipeline because you want the environment to be more damaged or you are against it because of political religious dogma that is unbending and refusing to deal in science and facts. Sort of like the flat earth or creationist coalitions. I wonder how that realization feels?

I’m sure you wouldn’t know, you would never admit the facts, it would go against your religion. But maybe you would remember this fact the next time you trash someone else’s religious beliefs?

Reemer wrote; “The politicians are the puppets of those with something to lose.”

Ah…yes…we have maintained all along that this is the reason for a left leaning majority senate and presidency. The left has no problem taking our liberties from us but stoutly defend government “freebies” and ever increasing public debt.

Remer worries about “degraded human environment and its many ripple effects” but can’t tell us what the perfect world climate everywhere should be. The earth has had tremendous climate changes in the past and will continue to have them in the future regardless man’s puny activities. We adapt to climate…climate doesn’t adapt to us.

Scratch a MMGW proponent and you will find a person who is not willing to conserve energy themselves by doing without their creature comforts; or a person willing to foot the bill for the crazy solutions being proposed.

The world of the liberals is collapsing around them. Global Warming is a farce, wind turbines and solar panels are failing, and the evidence that shipping oil by pipeline is ecologically safer than by rail or highway…what is a leftist to do. Oh…I know…let’s just ignore the facts and make stuff up. Let’s do what their messiah does…just lie.

Ted Nugent has summed up what is wrong with America in these few words:

“I have obviously failed to galvanize and prod, if not shame, enough Americans to be ever vigilant not to let a Chicago communist-raised, communist-educated, communist-nurtured subhuman mongrel like the ACORN community organizer gangster Barack Hussein Obama to weasel his way into the top office of authority in the United States of America,” Nugent said in the interview with Guns.com…

“I would call it inflammatory speech when it’s your job to protect Americans and you look into the television camera and say what difference does it make that I failed in my job to provide security and we have four dead Americans,” he said, referring to the attack on the 2012 U.S. compound in Benghazi, Libya.

“What difference does that make? he continued. “Not to a chimpanzee or Hillary Clinton, I guess it doesn’t matter.”
