Sorry, Did Romney's Video Offend You?
There’s a common cliché, “The truth hurts.” Liberals have made it quite clear they are utterly offended by the remarks Mitt Romney made in the recent leaked video at a fundraiser in May. He touched on multiple sensitive subjects, but in every message there was a truth. Yes, perspective can change truths, but that’s politics. Nothing Romney said should be deemed offensive because “the truth hurts sometimes.”

We do have a broken syllogism, however.
While it is true that virtually all the deadbeats will vote for Obama (if they vote at all), not all Obama voters are deadbeats.
Romney also included too many people. Not all those who don’t pay taxes are deadbeats or Democrats
Posted by: C&J at September 20, 2012 7:55 PMAccording to Gallup, “Thirty-six percent of voters say Romney’s comments make them less likely to vote for him, while 20% say the remarks make them more likely to vote for him, and 43% say the comments won’t make a difference.”
However, on the latest daily poll, Romney and Obama are tied at 47%. Obama’s approval is also down to 46% and his disapproval is 48%.
It doesn’t appear that Romney’s comments are hurting him despite the mainstream media and Democrats going absolutely bonkers over it.
It looks like this race is going to tied until the end.

It’s unfortunate that you have to choose your ideology before you choose your TV channel. The MSM is an extension of the campaigns.

“The MSM is an extension of the campaigns.”
Wow, Comedy Central is now a part of the MSM. You gotta really be digging deep for that one.
How about the truth is the truth no matter where it comes from.
Rocky
Posted by: Rocky Marks at September 20, 2012 11:59 PMOf course Comedy Central is mainstream. Who doesn’t at least know about the Daily Show? Doesn’t that fit the definition of “mainstream”?
Cherry picking your facts to paint a picture does not impress me.
That’s what the MSM has down to a science. They don’t necessarily lie, they just cherry pick facts, take things out of context, and repeat the same talking points over and over again.
You can post videos or articles from one bias source and Republicans can post videos or article from another bias source.
What’s the point? Does it change anyone’s mind?
Answer: No.
Like I said, you have to choose your ideology before you choose your TV channel.
Posted by: Joseph Ragsdale at September 21, 2012 1:11 AMMost Americans agree that the MSM is unreliable. This election is up for grabs regardless of what the media has to say.
http://www.gallup.com/poll/149624/majority-continue-distrust-media-perceive-bias.aspx
The majority of Americans still do not have confidence in the mass media to report the news fully, accurately, and fairly. The 44% of Americans who have a great deal or fair amount of trust and the 55% who have little or no trust remain among the most negative views Gallup has measured.
The majority of Americans (60%) also continue to perceive bias, with 47% saying the media are too liberal and 13% saying they are too conservative, on par with what Gallup found last year. The percentage of Americans who say the media are “just about right” edged up to 36% this year but remains in the range Gallup has found historically.
The Pew Research Center for the People & the Press has been tracking views of press performance since 1985, and the overall ratings remain quite negative. Fully 66% say news stories often are inaccurate, 77% think that news organizations tend to favor one side, and 80% say news organizations are often influenced by powerful people and organizations.Posted by: Joseph Ragsdale at September 21, 2012 1:20 AM
Nothing Romney said should be deemed offensive because “the truth hurts sometimes.”
So, Republicans think it is perfectly acceptable for a president to write off half the country as worthless moochers?
I think it’s complete horsesh*t and highly offensive.
Romney at that 50,000 dollar a plate fundraiser:
“If blacks and latinos show up at the polls, the country is in serious trouble”
This is something Republicans think is also the truth and not at all offensive?
I not only think that is complete horsesh*t, but it is without a doubt the most offensive and racist comment I have ever heard any candidate for president say in my lifetime.
Sorry, Did Romney’s Video Offend You?
Today’s Republican Party is never sorry about any of the freakishly vicious and nasty, heartless and mannerless things that you say.
Decent people are repelled by the increasing offensiveness, cluelessness, and insanity you display.
Posted by: Adrienne at September 21, 2012 4:02 AMBigtext: “Nothing Romney said should be deemed offensive because ‘the truth hurts sometimes.’”
This seems to be one popular conservative response to the video but it’s just not true. It’s not offensive because it’s true, it’s offensive because it’s not true.
Plus the 47% quote is only one of the offensive things. He also said it would be easier to win if he were Latino, that they’re using Ann Sparingly so she doesn’t get old or attacked (I wonder why the right expects first ladies to get attacked since they’ve treated Michelle so fairly), that a two-state solution is useless (already flip-flopped on that one), and he set up his current reasoning for being so vague on policy: He thinks the American public is too stupid to understand specifics so he’d rather lie and say things like “you built that” and “I’ll keep God in my platform!”
Real Clear Politics currently lists 8 tossup states right now worth 100 electoral votes. Obama leads in all but North Carolina. The internal polling of the Romney campaign must be freaking out. Their only hope is to try and make Obama look like a fool in the debates but the trouble with debates is both sides say they won and they spin it every which way until the truth doesn’t matter. Maybe the “MSM” will ask Obama what he reads and he won’t have a good answer…
Joseph,
“Cherry picking your facts to paint a picture does not impress me.”
And of course it’s not cherry picking the facts to say that 153 million people are dependent on the government and don’t pay taxes, and then blame it all on the current administration.
You pick your cherries, I’ll pick mine.
Oh, and BTW, my cherries are funnier than yours are.

Posted by: Kathy at September 21, 2012 9:07 AMThis article goes right in line with this post on Romney’s comments in the video. The left has had a real problem understanding the revolution taking place within the Republican Party. The case has been made over and over that the Tea Party conservatives did not agree with the Republican establishment politicians like Bush, McConnell, and even Boehner. Scott Rasmussen has correctly identified the coming change:
“Romney May Be the End of the Line for the Republican Establishment”

About six-in-ten (62%) say the news sources they use most generally get the facts straight; by comparison, just 25% say that news organizations generally get the facts straight.”
Seems to me this says it all. Your source of info is biased not mine we all seem to say. Stewart has showed us the hypocrisy that is Faux news, the worst offender by far in the biased reporting propaganda game that corporate media has become. Yet many stand by it as being a reliable source of “news”. The problem is as much the people as it is the media, IMHO.

He’s really up on his foreign affairs isn’t he. Vegas trip was more important to him.
Posted by: KAP at September 21, 2012 11:51 AMKAP Faux is different though. It is the problem. The hypocrisy of Faux is greater than all other cable news outlets combined. The bias of Faux is almost greater than all other cable news outlets combined.
Why is that so funny KAP? Are you saying that Obama cannot change as more facts come in to play? That he must double down on being mistaken or wrong as Romney does?
Posted by: j2t2 at September 21, 2012 12:11 PMBULLSHIT j2, the other MSM sources get a pass because people like you enjoy when the other guy gets the bashing.
It’s funny because the Libyian President got it right a week before and Obama didn’t. That’s what he gets for not being at his briefings and doing what he does best being Campaigner in Chief.
Adrienne, do you have a link to Romney saying this at a fundraiser? I Googled it and could not find the comment.
I should not have put what I wrote in quotes, although that was the gist of Romney’s remarks about Latinos.
Here is what he said:
The other is just about my heritage—my dad, you probably know, was the governor of Michigan and was the head of a car company, but he was born in Mexico. And had he been born of Mexican parents I’d have a better shot at winning this, but he was [audience laughs] unfortunately born of Americans living in Mexico. They’d lived there for a number of years, and, uh, I mean I say that jokingly, but it’d be helpful if they’d been Latino…
…we’re having a much harder time with Hispanic voters. And if the Hispanic voting bloc becomes as committed to the Democrats as the African American voting bloc has in the past, why we’re in trouble as a party and, I think, as a nation.
These are racist, blatantly divisive remarks being comfortably said in what was undoubtedly a room full of extremely wealthy, privileged white people just like Mitt himself. I know this will be denied. It always is. But it’s a sad fact that Republicans are notoriously blind when it comes to how offensive and insensitive they sound whenever they talk about racial issues.
And, as if to underscore such cluelessness, recently Mitt Romney appears to have put on Brownface to talk to Univision. Many are now saying this is unfair and it’s just a tan, but I’ve personally never seen someone get a tan on their face, but not on their ears or fingers.
Posted by: Adrienne at September 21, 2012 12:56 PM“If blacks and latinos show up at the polls, the country is in serious trouble”
So he didn’t say this, and it is nothing but biased interpretation to form false opinions.
In truth:
Would Romney get more latino votes if he were latino? Of course.
Will the Republican Party be in trouble 90+% of latinos start voting only for other latinos or only Democrats, as blacks do? Of course.
Guess the truth not only hurts, it also causes desparation.
Posted by: kctim at September 21, 2012 1:57 PMthe other MSM sources get a pass because people like you enjoy when the other guy gets the bashing.
No BS KAP, the other cable news outlets get no pass they simply get their facts right much more often than Faux. The other cable news outlets are not as biased as Faux by any conceivable stretch KAP. MSNBC is a distance second on biased news when compared to Faux. Most others are much more objective. For real news try PBS for a month and perhaps you can see what the Faux news cult has done to you.
Posted by: j2t2 at September 21, 2012 2:31 PMJoseph why is it the leader in misinformation Faux News channel is not part of the MSM?
Where did I say Fox New wasn’t?
Fox New most definitely is bias. So is NBC, ABC, CNN, Washington Post, Huffington Post, Time, New York Times, and so on.
Above, I linked to a Gallup article from 2011. Gallup today has updated it for 2012:
http://www.gallup.com/poll/157589/distrust-media-hits-new-high.aspx?ref=image
Americans’ distrust in the media hit a new high this year, with 60% saying they have little or no trust in the mass media to report the news fully, accurately, and fairly.
Americans are obviously seeing right through the bias from both sides.
So, as I said before, it doesn’t appear that Romney’s comments are hurting him despite the mainstream media and Democrats going absolutely bonkers over it.
I trust Rasmussen and Gallup over some news journalist gushing over Obama. The MSM has a love affair with Obama and thank god the majority of Americans don’t trust the media.
Sorry to break it to you Democrats, but Obama’s convention bump has evaporated. The race is tied. Rasmussen has Obama 1 point ahead. Gallup has them both tied at 47%.
We’ll see in November.
Posted by: Joseph Ragsdale at September 21, 2012 2:40 PMRight j2, all the Obama and liberal loving sources are more objective, sure and I have Ocean front property in Arizona to sell you. I hold little value in any of the MSM including PBS.

Posted by: Joseph Ragsdale at September 21, 2012 2:55 PMKAP, in the article I linked to you might find it interesting that 26% of Republicans trust the media, 31% of independents trust the media, and 58% of Democrats trust the media.
So, at least according to Gallup, the majority of Democrats trust the media.
Pretty much backs up what you’ve said.
Not a good sign for Obama when 31% of independents trust the media. How are his attacks going to work? Perhaps that’s why Romney and Obama are tied in the polls.
Posted by: Joseph Ragsdale at September 21, 2012 3:02 PMIf you want to know whose side the MSM is on, wait until after the election.
If Obama loses, every news outlet other than Fox News will be in mourning. To quote Jon Stewart after the Walker Recall Election:
JON STEWART, HOST: If Fox was high, MSNBC must be M-S-N-B-Sad.(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
ED SCHULTZ, MSNBC: To say that I’m shocked and stunned is pretty much an understatement.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
STEWART: “Shocked and stunned is an understatement. No, it feels tonight more like my heart was f—ked by the devil.
(Laughter) No, wait, that’s an overstatement. Tonight I feel somewhere between shocked, stunned and devil heart f—ked. (Laughter) This is Ed Schultz.”
Indeed, MSNBC passed through all the stages of grief last night. Stage one, denial.
If Obama wins, every news outlet other than Fox News will be in gloat-mode. “We won!!!!” There will be a gloat-a-thon.
I look forward to the completely predictable response from the MSM after the election.
How about you?

Capus confirmed a previous Reuters report that an internal network investigation had determined that a producer made the editing error, and that the network’s editorial controls - including senior broadcast producer oversight, script editors and often legal and standards department reviews of sensitive material to be broadcast - simply missed the selective editing of the phone call. Two sources at the network told Reuters the Miami-based producer of the segment had been fired on Thursday.
Capus said “several people” involved were disciplined, though he declined to specify the nature of the disciplinary actions, saying they were internal personnel matters.
MSNBC takes the crown for bad news.

Posted by: Joseph Ragsdale at September 21, 2012 3:37 PMSpeaking of Univision and the MSM, these were the comment of the MSM regarding Univion’s questioning of Obama:
The domestic media is kind of shocked here at the questions Obama got.
DIANE SAWYER: “The president, fending off heated questions tonight!”
BRIANNA KEILAR: “He got some tough questions.”
WOLF BLITZER: …”tough questions at a town hall held by Univision.”
PIERS MORGAN: “President Obama facing tough questions!”
ANA NAVARRO: …”some very tough questions.”
SCOTT PELLEY: “Today, he faced some really tough questions.”
These questions come from Jorge Ramos and Maria Elena Salinas, and for the first time in four years, Obama got some legitimate questions! He was actually questioned about his role as president. He was questioned about his performance. He was held accountable for the first time in four years by, of all things, Univision. His answers…he never answered their questions. In fact Obama sounded like a dunce. The questions:
SALINAS: (via translator) Why wasn’t your administration better prepared with more security at our embassies on September 11?
“SALINAS: (via translator) Do you have information indicating that it was Iran, or al Qaeda, who was behind organizing the protests?
RAMOS: (via translator) At the beginning of your governing, you had control of both chambers of Congress, and yet you did not introduce immigration reform. And before I continue, I want for you to acknowledge that you did not keep your promise.
RAMOS: I don’t want it to get lost in translation: You promised that, and a promise is a promise — and with all due respect, you didn’t keep that promise.
SALINAS: (via translator) Mr. President, you have been the president who has made the largest number of deportations in history, more than 1.5 million so far. You’ve separated many families.
SALINAS: (via translator) Some of your critics to say that it was just only to win the Hispanic vote. Why didn’t you do that earlier during your presidency?
ALCORTA: (via translator) Mr. President, I am a student at the journalism school at UM. This is my question to you: What would you recommend to Latina women such as I in order to be successful in my search for employment in the United States?
SALINAS: (via translator) You have supported [Mexican] President Calderon’s policy against drug trafficking. Do you think that after 65,000 deaths it’s time to change the strategy? Can you consider the 65,000 a failure and the policy should change?
OBAMA: Uh, that’s why —
SALINAS: (via translator) How many more people have to die?
RAMOS: Shouldn’t Attorney General Eric Holder have known about that? And if he didn’t, should you fire him?
RAMOS: So if you have nothing to hide, then why are you not releasing papers?
SALINAS: (via translator) Why don’t we have — very briefly — an independent investigation —
OBAMA: (stammering) Maria Elena —
SALINAS: — that is not from the Justice Department?
SALINAS: (via translator) What is your biggest failure?”
I bet Obama almost crapped himself when he was asked these questions. So the big news in the MSM was not the content of the questions that Obama was asked by Hispanic Univision, but rather that Univision had the nerve to ask Obama hard questions. Funny

Posted by: Rocky Marks at September 22, 2012 1:39 AMOkay, here’s your logic, Romney’s comment being left out of the equation: If I tell an ugly truth about somebody to them, it will cause them emotional distress.
Here’s the hole in your logic. Just because confronting somebody with an ugly truth can make them squirm, doesn’t mean anger with what you say implies you’ve hit that kind of nerve.
People also get angry with folks who lie about them, who slander or libel them. Two separate possible causes, and it’s basic logic that P implies Q does not automatically mean Q implies P.
Or put another way, If I said the Senators stabbed Julius Caesar, therefore he is wounded, that logic works. But did being wounded mean it had to be senators who stabbed him? No. If we ran into poor wounded Caesar on the street, knowing nothing else, we could not look at Caesar’s wounds and just say “There must have been Senators who stabbed him!”. For all we know, at that point, it could have been the husbands of the women he was sleeping with.
The actual, real statement you can derive, is that if Caesar was not wounded, Senators certainly didn’t stab him. So, if we were of that odd frame of mind such that we worried about knife-nut Roman politicians, we could reassure ourselves that nothing happened merely by encountering Caesar unwounded on the street.
Oh, by the way, did you know that Romney had to bus in supporters to his Univision Forum, and demanded that he get to retape his introduction?
