Obama and Amnesty for Illegal Aliens

Obama is jumping the gun on amnesty for illegal aliens in the United States. Yeah, I know he is in campaign mode. But then, when is he not?

Pandering for the Latino vote will lose him votes from the Anglos. So – keep it up, Mr. President!

By now, we all know that as long as Obama is in the Oval Office and the socialist/democrats are in control of the US Senate, there is no way the flood of illegal aliens north, across the US border, will be slowed, let alone stopped.

We predicted sometime ago that Border States would begin building their own border fences along their respective portions of the US/Mexico border. Arizona has begun.

From the StarTribune.com comes this report: “Arizona lawmakers want more fence along the border with Mexico — whether the federal government thinks it's necessary or not.
They've got a plan that could get a project started using online donations and prison labor. If they get enough money, all they would have to do is get cooperation from landowners and construction could begin as soon as this year.

Gov. Jan Brewer recently signed a bill that sets the state on a course that begins with launching a website to raise money for the work, said state Sen. Steve Smith, the bill's sponsor.” (You may read the entire article HERE.)

Governor Jan Brewer signed the Arizona fence bill back on April 28th and it will take effect on July 30th. As soon as the website is up, we hope to be able to direct our readers to it.

The article goes on to say: “Any type of fence would require approval of landowners, but Smith said he expects that to be forthcoming from the state and private land owners, including ranchers who have complained of break-ins and other trouble associated with smugglers and illegal crossings.”
Plans call for inmate labor to build the fence. At 50 cents an hour, the cost of actually building such a fence would be considerably less than the federal government’s cost.
Does anyone actually believe the federal government when they proclaim the US/ Mexico border more secure than ever? I don’t.

As to the accusation by Obama that Republicans would like a moat filled with alligators along the border – allow me to say that we folks here in NC would happily contribute as many Tar Heel “gaters” as we can catch and ship to the border -- ear marked, of course, for use in such a moat.

Back in June of 2010 we noted that Obama was considering an executive order that would grant amnesty to illegal aliens. At the time, we said: “This ought to frighten every American to his/her core. Below is an excerpt from a letter sent to the President from a few republican members of the US Senate recently:

“Several Senators have learned of a possible plan by the Obama Administration that would provide a mass Amnesty for the nation’s 11-18 million illegal aliens. Led by Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), eight Senators addressed a letter to the President asking for answers to questions about a plan that would allow DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano to provide an amnesty if they can’t secure enough votes for a bill in the Senate.

The letter that was sent to Pres. Obama earlier today asks the President for clarification on the use of deferred action or parole for illegal aliens. The executive actions are typically used in special cases and are evaluated on a case-by-case basis, but if 60 votes can’t be secured in the Senate to pass a mass Amnesty, the Administration may use the discretionary actions as an alternative.” (SOURCE)

That letter was signed by: Sens. Grassley, Hatch (R-Utah), Vitter (R-La.), Bunning (R-Ky.), Chambliss (R-Ga.), Isakson (R-Ga.), Inhofe (R-Okla.), and Cochran (R-Miss.).
You may read the text of the letter HERE.”

It has been just under one year since we warned such an executive order might be in the works. What better time to execute such a plan than during the bid for Obama’s reelection.

In case you missed it, there is an article at USA.com entitled: “Obama talks immigration with officials -- but no members of Congress.” It was posted less than a month ago. It will provide more food for thought on this issue. You will find it HERE. It was interesting, and telling, that no governors of states that share their border with Mexico were included in that meeting.

Republicans declare that no bill containing amnesty for illegal aliens will pass the Congress. But – a Presidential Executive Order does not require a single act of the Congress -- and it has the effect of LAW.

When, exactly, did America coronate a king??? Oh, yeah. That would have been January 20th, 2009.

JD

this is the first i’ve heard of obama granting amnesty through executive order. actually it wouldn’t suprise me a bit. it’s become quite clear that he has no use for congress. i can’t even begin to imagine the types of executive orders he’ll sign before he leaves office, if he’s not re elected.

Let me just get a couple pet peeves here out of the way. First, it seems to me that every time you publish, you put it all in the entry window. As a longtime Watchblog writer, let me tell you that what you should be doing is taking only the first four or five lines of your posting and putting them there, then putting the rest in the extended entry section. That’s what allows me and other posters to split our posts between the front page and the permalink page for the entry.

I’m only telling you this because this must be the fourth or fifth time you’ve done this, and I’m sure this makes more work for the person running the site. So as a courtesy, will you remember to split your entry up as I’ve described.

This isn’t just a technical issue, because other authors see their entries pushed down the page and out of view of our audience. I’m sure you want your fellow Republicans and conservatives to have their chance to bring their views out.

Second pet peeve: you mention links, but don’t post them. Again, the solution is easy. In the Movable type interface, you select text, and you push a button on the interface that looks like a chain link. This will bring up a scripted window into which you can paste the website’s address.

This isn’t just a technical matter. I’ve been required for quite some time to put at least one link in every entry I make, and I do so.

Since some writers love to brag about how long they have been writing on WB, then perhaps these longtime writers would know how to connect with Mr. Longstreet privately and provide advice without posting it on WB so that everyone can see. I suspect these longtime writers want to publically rebuke Mr. Longstreet because it gives him a sense of elitism and power.

Mr. Longstreet, I have no problem reading your posts and I also have no problem looking up your links. You have given enough info to allow me to search them.

And lastly, obama could care less about illegal aliens; this is all about politics, more votes to replace those who are disinfranchised with him, and the ultimate goal of socialists of overloading the system. You know, the plan to create so much chaos in our welfare/entitlement system, that it brings the whole economy down.

J.D.,

If you are reading these comments at all, please take a look at Stephen’s comment. I have been cleaning up your posts after you publish them. Please start using the Extended Entry textarea properly. If you do not see the “Extended Entry” textarea, then click the link way at the bottom of the page that says “Customize the display of this page” and enable it.

Also, you do not need to put the title or byline of the post in the body of your post. Please take a look at your edited Posts and follow that formatting.

Lastly, I agree with Stephen that you need to source your information better.

I have to give you credit for at least using an outside source to support what you write instead of simply spinning your wheels. However, you forgot to supply a link.

That letter was signed by: Sens. Grassley, Hatch (R-Utah), Vitter (R-La.), Bunning (R-Ky.), Chambliss (R-Ga.), Isakson (R-Ga.), Inhofe (R-Okla.), and Cochran (R-Miss.).

Once again, you are missing your link. Perhaps you didn’t want your readers to know that the only source of this piece of misinformation is a letter published by a nativist website? Seven GOP Sentators can pull all sorts of stunts in order to make a political point, but it serves no purpose for me.

Another missing link.

Regarding immigration, all I can say is that it will be impossible to resolve the problem with illegal aliens without increasing the number of legal immigrants. The only other alternative is abandoning the principles that made our nation great in the first place.

“You know, the plan to create so much chaos in our welfare/entitlement system, that it brings the whole economy down.”

Liberals want to destroy our economy. Then why has the economy performed better under Democratic leadership in modern times? I understand that some will argue that simple correlation of better performance does not prove causation. There is lag time in estimating the impact of economic policies, etc. But even granting those arguments, it is clear that liberal policies have certainly not been harmful to the economy. Indeed, the data suggests that liberal policies have been good for the overall economy. It suggests that a strong and growing middle class is the great engine of the American economy.

Rich said;

“Liberals want to destroy our economy. Then why has the economy performed better under Democratic leadership in modern times?”

When you say Democratic leadership, are you referring to the Presidency or control of the Congress? For 2 ½ years the left has blamed all of the problems of America on George W. Bush, and I am sure the new strategy for the 2012 presidential election will be to continue to blame Bush. If the previous administration is to be blamed for the bad times, then it is only logical (from the left’s reasoning) that the previous administration be blamed for the good times. Hence, Reagan’s first term was the result of Carter destroying the economy; Reagan’s second term was the result of good policy set forth in the first term; we then had one term of Bush I, who continued the Reagan policies; the 1st term of Clinton were the result of 12 years of Reagan economics and his second term (after he and the democrats began screwing up the first 2 years), became successful when he had a Republican Congress (remember, when the American voter sent the Democrats packing, after 60 years of rule); and I will be the first to acknowledge that Bush and the Republicans screwed themselves by trying to act like Democrats.

Now, regarding the liberal’s desire to destroy our economy:

I would like to know what data you are referring to, when you say liberal policies have been good for the economy. In case you have not checked the latest stats; the middle-class is faltering under liberal policies:

“The tough economy has taken a terrible toll on the middle class, economists testified Thursday before the Senate Health, Education and Labor Committee.

“Eventually jobs will return, but if the trend continues, more people will be working for pay they consider inadequate, more working families will be at or near poverty, and (income) inequality will have widened, ” said Robert Reich, former President Bill Clinton’s labor secretary.”

http://www.nola.com/politics/index.ssf/2011/05/economy_hurting_middle_class_s.html

There was a time when Robert Reich, former President Bill Clinton’s labor secretary, would have been considered legitimate, but I am sure he is now considered a “racist” for speaking against Obama’s economic policies.

Obama is a follower of Saul Alinsky, by his own confession; he also follow the “Cloward/Piven Strategy” and in both cases, the goal is to overload the economy and cause chaos:

“Obama adheres to the Saul Alinksy Rules for Radicals method of politics, which teaches the dark art of destroying political adversaries. However, that text reveals only one front in the radical left’s war against America. The Cloward/Piven Strategy is another method employed by the radical Left to create and manage crisis. This strategy explains Rahm Emanuel’s ominous statement, “You never want a serious crisis to go to waste.”

http://www.americanthinker.com/2009/02/the_clowardpiven_strategy_of_e.html

“The Cloward/Piven Strategy is named after Columbia University sociologists Richard Andrew Cloward and Frances Fox Piven. Their goal is to overthrow capitalism by overwhelming the government bureaucracy with entitlement demands. The created crisis provides the impetus to bring about radical political change.

According to Discover the Networks.org:

“Rather than placating the poor with government hand- outs, wrote Cloward and Piven, activists should work to sabotage and destroy the welfare system; the collapse of the welfare state would ignite a political and financial crisis that would rock the nation…”

“Making an already weak economy even worse is the intent of the Cloward/Piven Strategy. It is imperative that we view the American Recovery and Reinvestment Plan’s spending on items like food stamps, jobless benefits, and health care through this end goal. This strategy explains why the Democrat plan to “stimulate” the economy involves massive deficit spending projects. It includes billions for ACORN and its subgroups such as SHOP and the Neighborhood Stabilization Program. Expanding the S-Chip Program through deficit spending in a supposed effort to “save the children” only makes a faltering economy worse.”

This article was written in Feb. 2009 (2 ½ half years ago), and we find everything that was said in it has taken place. The article goes on to say:

“The Cato Institute reports that the plan will harm a faltering economy, intentionally causing increased job losses leading to increased demands for the aforementioned programs. Even the jobs to be created are set apart to render social justice, not economic revival. Robert Reich believes new infrastructure jobs should not go to white construction workers. Meanwhile, workers at Microsoft, IBM, Texas Instruments, and the retail market find themselves experiencing the life of the welfare poor.”

http://www.cato-at-liberty.org/economists-against-the-stimulus/

44.2 million Americans are on food stamps (up 11.6% in the past year), 14 million Americans are unemployed, 8.5 million on unemployment benefits (considered 9% unemployment, but how many more have run out of benefits), and 5.5 million have just recently lost their benefits. The inflated prices of food have increased by multiple double digits in the past year, and gas is up 25% from last year. So, I don’t think the Obama economy is actually doing any good for the country. The NLRB is now run by union thugs and is blocking the expansion of factories in right to work states, which is unheard of and socialism at its greatest. The union thugs have already started civil disobedience is some states, and what do you think will happen when there is no more free government money or foodstamps, and no more food on the grocery shelves? What will the recipients call for then? My guess is more unrest. We have already seen this taking place all over Europe, for the exact same reasons. Are you naive enough to believe it can’t happen here; because the left’s messiah is in charge? If it happens, it is because it is what he wants.

The article concludes with this thought:

“Because these programs are financed with deficit spending, the effect of the Cloward/Piven Strategy becomes doubly destructive. Talk about a perfect storm! The Democrat stimulus plan is a mechanism whose goal is the destruction of the traditional American way of life. It is bitter irony that the American taxpayer will actually fund the destruction of his own ability to live according to the values of our Founding Documents. It is not alarmist to identify this situation as a coup d’etat.

As the flow of money from the top of the economy dries up, job losses and mortgage busts will mount exponentially. The Democrat stimulus plan provides for welfare expansion but not for a robust economy that creates high paying jobs. Is this what Obama means when he warns, “It’s going to get worse before it gets better?” If we are not bailing out corporate America so they can regain profitability, we must conclude Obama is working toward another end goal. Recognizing these attack methods reveals the only logical response — an unwavering wall of “No!”

And as I said, these things were written 2 ½ years ago; and what has happened since then? How is the housing market doing?

Conservativethinker,

I don’t know what to think about your post. As for economic performance by party, here is a simple google result: http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/1602429/economic_growth_and_political_parties.html?cat=75 You can google for additional analyses. The results will be the same.

As for Obama and the Clowart/Piven strategy, what are you smoking? I never even heard of it. A quick Wikipedia search indicates that it was some wacky proposal in 1966 to force the Federal government to institute a national welfare system and never gained any significant attention. I seem to recall that Bill Clinton put a nail in that coffin. But then again, perhaps Obama’s economic appointees are closet socialist radicals posing as Wall Street veterans. Wow, Geitner, Larry Summers, Bob Rubin, etc. sure do a good job at disguising their true agenda.

Robert Reich addresses a multi-decade problem with the stagnation of middle class wages and job instability and he is somehow criticizing Obama.

The best thing that liberals can do for their political future is to publicize the almost insane, paranoid conspiracy theories and junk economics of the far right.

Rich, you stated that the economy has always done better under liberal leadership and I proved you wrong, even with the statements of progressives. Secondly, I proved that the middle-class is disappearing and being replaced with poverty. And thirdly, the GDP is determined by many formulas, but in reference to you link, it says:

“One might criticize this analysis because it probably takes some time for the economic policy of a new President to take effect. Therefore, the performance of the first year a Chief Executive is in office might not represent the effect of his policies. Likewise, one might argue that an election year results in some uncertainty about the future of the economy. This would suggest that the final year of a Presidential term might also not truly reflect the policy of the incumbent.”

This is exactly what I told you in the previous link.

The stock market has been making gains; but none of this is seen job creation, income, or the results of inflation.

Since you have proved you know how to use Google and since you are completely oblivious to the Cloward/Piven Strategy, might I suggest you Google “Obama and the Cloward/Piven Strategy”, “Obama and Saul Alinsky Rules for Radicals”, and “Obama’s Economics Failing Under Keynesian Policies”. You will find more material than just Wikipedia, of which I put no faith as being accurate. Rather than come out with; “The best thing that liberals can do for their political future is to publicize the almost insane, paranoid conspiracy theories and junk economics of the far right”, why don’t you try reading and researching, and by the way, follow the links in your research. Or you can just remain ignorant on the subject and simply spout liberal talking points.

I might add to CT’s statement, the president’s policy on illegal aliens is the continuation of overloading the economic system of America. In some states, especially those in the southwest, are experiencing these financial meltdowns as the result of entitlements to illegals. Hospitals are going belly up. I don’t believe it is a conspiracy theory, when you can see these things taking place and the results.

Reagan’s first term was the result of Carter destroying the economy;

Con Carter didn’t destroy the economy just as Reagan didn’t save the economy. Oil destroyed our oil based economy and oil rescued our oil based economy. Look at the price of oil and periods of economic good times.

Starting in 1971 when the US pulled out of the Bretton Woods accord and the subsequent devaluation of the dollar on to the oil embargo in ‘73 to the oil crisis in ‘79. Notice when oil prices dropped again and how oil prices remained low during the 90’s and then moved higher again in ‘06.

Shifting jobs from high wage markets to low wage markets, and bringing low wage workers into a high wage labor market is free market capitalism.

The capitalists get service workers and more importantly, new consumers. 12 million illegal immigrants plus offspring in 20 years = ? in 40 years = ?

Mike, if the American people don’t want to give up their entitlement programs, perhaps bankruptcy is the only solution for ending these socialist plagues.

As to illegal immigration here are a couple of tidbits.

Sister Janet Napalitano has named two new high level appointees to Homeland Security (sic)

Kareem Shora and Arif Alikhan. Two devoted Muslims.

Alikhan is Asst. Sec. for Policy Development.

Shora is part of the Advisory Council.

Don’t that just thrill ya lovers of illegal immigration.

They were introduced as devout Muslims. It was devout Muslims who flew into WTO. It was a devout Muslim who killed at Ft. Hood. Many time devout Muslims have done hateful deeds to society.

When did you last hear that an appointee to a high government position was described as a “devout Catholic” or a “devout Christian” or a “devout Jew”.

At least Nappy gave us a heads up on their devoutness and where they stand.

Boy, I feel so safe all of a sudden. Safe from those Tea Partiers? NO! Safe from big government? NO! Safe from terrorist attacks? NO! Then safe from what? I really have no clue when the big dogs in our government make such appointments. The old fox and hen house syndrome.

I have to appologize to America. Nappy was once my governor and now she is a big wheel in WDC. I appologize that she got put in charge of so many lives and their future. She has put far too many Americans in harms way. I am sorry America.

“I Will Stand with the Muslims and Islam should the political winds shift in an ugly direction.” —
Barack Hussein Obama

I think I am beginning to understand the words coming from WDC that our border is safer than it has ever been. Safer for the illegals to cross freely. Safer for terrorists to cross freely. They almost get an escort in this present time.

Great post CT. Keep it up! When you write it reminds me of the bucking bronco at the rodeo. They put a pin in his side to make him buck. Well, you put a pin their the southpaws side and they do more than buck. They get downright cranky and start having trouble with truth.

Please, this is silly. It has nothing to do with the content of the article. It is had to do with the manner of posting the article. All articles since I have been visiting this site have been posted with only the introductory paragraph showing and the entire article hidden but accessible from the “read on” button. It has nothing to do with the content. It has to do with a compact site that allows you to peruse the available articles and decide which to read in entirety and comment upon. Scrolling down an entire article on the front page is annoying and displaces the work of other authors.

Tom Humes,

““I Will Stand with the Muslims and Islam should the political winds shift in an ugly direction.” —
Barack Hussein Obama

This is a fictional quote taken completely out of context. It took only seconds to find the entire quote, in context, had somebody bothered to take the time;

http://www.truthorfiction.com/rumors/o/obama-books.htm

“Of course, not all my conversations in immigrant communities follow this easy pattern. In the wake of 9/11, my meetings with Arab and Pakistani Americans, for example, have a more urgent quality, for the stories of detentions and FBI questioning and hard stares from neighbors have shaken their sense of security and belonging. They have been reminded that the history of immigration in this country has a dark underbelly; they need specific assurances that their citizenship really means something, that America has learned the right lessons from the Japanese internments during World War II, and that I will stand with them should the political winds shift in an ugly direction.”

Wow, I had no idea that for the lack of 12 million illegal immigrants, working predominantly minimum wage jobs, we would have no food on our tables, there would be no construction going on anywhere in America, social security would be bankrupt and we would be in another Great Depression.

I worked construction for many years. There was no lack of construction workers, only a lack of construction workers who would work construction for $7 per hr. The labor costs went down, the cost of construction did not.

Schwamp, what about those several million factory jobs that where shipped out of the country? What effect did that have on SS and our economy?

Also, you forgot to mention the half to a million illegal immigrants working the drug trafficking that is also vitally important to our economy and Mexico’s.

One side exaggerates the negative, the other exaggerates the positive.

My beef has never been with the immigrants, but the violation of our laws by our own government. When government begins to violate law, the people need to take notice and replace their government.

I realize that we need immigrants and that we have legal means to bring them in. Ramping up the legal immigration is far better than having immigrants being forced to backpack a load of drugs across the border.

Our problem is not illegal immigrants, it is illegal employers. Everyone knows who they are. There are some in nearly every community in the country.

You want to stop illegal immigration? Start boycotting these business, protest in front of their offices, demand their arrests. Have your next door neighbor busted for hiring illegals to work on his house or prune his landscape.

Americans don’t want to do anything but sit on their asses and bitch. When the march for illegal immigrants was held, why didn’t the anti illegal immigrant people stage a competing march?

When did most of this current wave of illegal immigrants come into this country? When Bush was president and the fascist/Republicans where in control of Congress.

The Republicans want the illegal immigrants, but they don’t want amnesty. Why is that?

Now the left would have us to believe we are spreading conspiracy theories, or that we hate union haters, or that we are falsely accusing the left of being communist. You make the call. I would really like to know Warped Reality’s take on this event in CA, with unions and communists walking arm in arm. I guess the sad thing is the left cannot understand why conservatives call Obama and his cronies, socialists… But it turns out that is what they are…

“Look at the pictures below…were they taken in Cuba? Venezuela? Bolivia? Ecuador, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Argentina, maybe Puerto Rico?

Nope… Los Angeles, USA just the 7th of May…this is what happened while we slept…while we went to school, went to work, while we raised our families. While we watched CNN or CBS, ABC or NBC or listened to NPR or read the New York Times and never saw, read or heard a minute of coverage of this travesty…while we let our guard down and we let the Marxist/Socialist/Communist Left and Progressives creep into our schools, the unions, the media and our government…banners and posters with the images of Ernesto “Che” Guevara (Castro’s executioner) and Lenin would make Fidel Castro, Joe Stalin or Karl Marx proud to be an American!
A May Day rally in Los Angeles, co-sponsored by the SEIU and various communist groups, as well as other unions, reflected yet another step in the normalization of self-identified communist and socialist ideologies in the Obama era. Not only did the SEIU help to organize the rally in conjunction with communists, they marched side-by-side with communists, while union members carried communist flags, communists carried union signs, and altogether there was no real way to tell the two apart.”

‘The more things change, the more they stay the same’

“The Nativist Response”

“But more than religious prejudice underlay hostility towards the latest newcomers. Cultural differences confirmed in the minds of nativists the assumption that the Nordic peoples of the old immigration were superior to Slavic and Latin peoples of the new immigration. Many of the new immigrants were illiterate, and more appeared so because they could not speak English. Some resorted to crime in order to survive in the new land, and political and social radicals turned up among these immigrants in sufficient numbers to encourage nativists to blame labor disputes on alien elements.”

“A resurgence of nativism in the 1880’s led to the creation of the American Protective Association, operated mainly in Protestant strongholds of the upper Mississippi Valley. The movement grew slowly from its start in 1887 until 1893, when keen leaders took advantage of a severe depression to draw large numbers of the frustrated to its ranks. The APA soon vanished with the return of prosperity, but while it lasted it promoted restricted immigration, more stringent naturalization requirements, refusal to employ aliens or Catholics, and the teaching of only the “American” language in the schools.”

“”The Chinese Must Go!” Slogan of the Workingmen’s Party.”

Ok Roy, I’ll start about 400 or 500 years ago. Without immigration, there would be no U.S. of America or any other of the countries in the Western Hemisphere. The land I live on belonged to the Shawnee. The land you live on belonged to another tribe. We immigrants stole or conquered this land and turned it into a nation.

Without the large numbers of immigrants that poured into this country, especially in the mid to late 1800’s, it is unlikely that we would have become the industrial giant that we became, the only super power.

Beginning about 1950, our economy began to grow tremendously to provide for the largest generation in our history, the baby boomers.

We have a capitalist economy which absolutely is dependent on continued growth, growth in workers as well as consumers. Without that growth, capitalism withers and dies.

Where does our capitalist system get the replacement workers and consumers?

Then there is this:

The New Colossus

Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
With Conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, who’s flame
is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome, her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.
“Keep ancient lands, your storied pomp!” cries she
With silent lips. “Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-lost to me.
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”

Emma Lazarus, 1883

Inscribed on a bronze plaque and mounted inside the Statue of Liberty in 1903.

The key to a better world is a stable, sustainable economy and a human society that wages an all out war on poverty, hunger, and disease.
