So Can We!

Many pundits and scholars have said it is laughably impossible to do as several Republican candidates for president suggest: round up 12 million illegal immigrants and send them home. Getting every last illegal immigrant might well be beyond possibility, but what makes Americans think that deportation is not by-and-large feasible?

After all, with far less technology - and during time of war - America conscripted as many soldiers to fight during World War II. Even more apposite, Germany rounded up as many Jews, Roma, Communists and others during the same period.

Hitler did it, and so can America! This should be a slogan for one of the candidates.

Just think of the benefits of rounding up all those illegal immigrants: jobs would be created in the spook and human-transport industries; Americans would have more living space; low-skill workers would see hours and wages rise; legal immigrants would keep their noses clean, learn English in a hurry, and name their children "Richard" and "Katelyn" to make sure they are not deported by accident.

That brings up a good point: some wrongful deportations would occur, inevitably. Undocumented workers from, say, Brazil, would be dumped across the Mexican border with no papers and no money, and the Mexican social service and transport systems would be stretched to the breaking point. Some U.S. citizens would be reported and deported for not having all their paper ducks in a row. This is obviously a small price to pay in pursuit of such a noble goal.

When people question whether America can rouse herself to her manifest destiny and execute a final solution to the immigration problem, just remember: Hitler did it, and so can we!

If you think I'm serious about solving this problem, just wait until I address America's chronic irony deficiency!

Anything is possible in America if you are willing to throw the Constitution and the law out the window, as Republicans have demonstrated their willingness to do.

Rounding up most illegal aliens would require profiling by the police by race. So, if Republicans have no problem with racial profiling, sure, most illegal aliens could be rounded up and deported, Chops. Is that what you are suggesting Republicans advocate? Sure looks like it from your article.

Chops,

That would make a really great bumper sticker!

Hitler did it - so can we!

But actually we have some prior experience of our own. We managed to ship the American Indian off to reservations, sometimes thousands of miles from their ancestral lands. And we did a bang-up job of interring Japanese Americans during WWII.

David,

You did read the last line of Chops’ article didn’t you?

“Vanderbilt University Law School professor Carol M. Swain, author of “Black Faces, Black Interests,” is one African-American who won’t be voting for Obama — nor, likely, for any Democrat. She says none of the party’s candidates has articulated a position “that really takes into consideration the harm that’s being done to working-class Americans” by competition from illegal immigrants.”
(Associated Press)

The Associated Press quoted this African American Professor over the weekend. This is an issue that most of the Press seems unwilling to discuss.

Why are Conservative-thinking Blacks voting for the Democratic Party when it is the Democrats who continually want to let more and more illegal immigrants into the United States. These illegals are in direct competition with the poorer African-Americans for jobs. That is especially true for the young African Americans coming out of High School, or perhaps for whatever reason, not graduating, and having to enter the work force with little experience. It would seem the Democrats’ policies of uncontrolled borders, and especially a blanket amnesty program, is like “throwing young Blacks out with the bathwater”, to coin one of their own phrases from the 90’s.

To top it off the Hillary gang is attempting to sign up folks right out of the immigration court down in Las Vegas as the AP article reports:

“The first two Fridays of each month, the Democratic party sets up voter-registration tables outside the federal court chamber in Las Vegas (Nevada) where new citizens are sworn in. We average about a hundred every Friday,” says Andres Ramirez, Latino outreach coordinator for the state party. “From time to time, we’ll get a thousand a week.” Latino registration rates in the state have risen from just 4 percent in 1996 to more than 10 percent…”
“Ramirez is confident that most of those political newcomers will be voting Democratic”
(Associated Press)

We can see the underlying intentions of the Democrats quite easily on immigration, but as Professor Swain says, the Democratic Party has turned its back on poor African-Americans on the illegal immigration issue with its lust for the all-mighty voter.

JD said: “These illegals are in direct competition with the poorer African-Americans for jobs.”

Are ONLY African Americans poor in America, JD? Not according to the Census Bureau. Are you aware there are more poor Whites than Blacks in America? And many of them are Republican who voted for the Republican Congress and GW Bush who promoted this cheap labor illegal immigration as a favor to their business campaign donors.

You seem to imply that Black Americans must be dumb to vote for Democrats. Any dumber than the Whites who voted for Democrats or the Republicans who, for 14 years have kept the borders wide open during 9/11 and all this illegal immigration, with some Democrats help, of course?

Illegal immigration is a bipartisan responsibility as both Dems and Reps have had their motives for allowing 12 to 20 million illegals into this country under their leadership. And race is not a factor at all in terms whites and blacks voting for their parties despite the illegal immigration issue and problem.

You are right though, illegal immigration does depress wages, and supplant American citizens taking those jobs at those low wages. The minimum wage hikes will ameliorate the problem some as they will afford a living wage for poorer Americans. But, absent securing our border, the problem will not end. It will go underground, creating far more dangerous problems.

That is Democrat’s Achille’s Heel going forward. They talk big on border security but, don’t vote for the funding to get the job done. But, let’s be honest, Republicans jumped on the border security issue ONLY AFTER Democrats took control of Congress. Prior to that time Republicans in Congress and the WH had virtually nothing to say on the issue, save a few lonely and ignored voices like Tom Tancredo and Duncan Hunter. Who, are still ignored by the Republicans. They were both candidates just a month ago.

Is is quite simple to legally encourage illegals to return to their country of origin. Most come to America for jobs. Enforce existing laws and employers will no longer hire illegals. Without the job incentive they will go home. So simple, so easy, so inexpensive, and so effective.

Geez! Do you guys not recognize sarcastic humor? Get a grip! The point is that Democrats are waiting outside the court to sign ‘em up as fast as they can.

I’m surprised the article didn’t tell of a government assistance sign-up booth right next to the Democratic Party voter registration booth so that the Democrats could bribe them with all of the goodies Democrats can give them even before actually registering to vote.

But, I guess that would be a little redundant since the Democrats already assist illegals in obtaining just about every type of government assistance before they are even legal.

I am well aware of that fact, David! That is why illegals have to be stopped at the border. Are you agreeing with me that illegals take jobs from poor Blacks or are you alleging that they only take jobs from poor whites?

I’m saying they are taking jobs from both. But, since the illegals take up their residence in mostly large sanctuary cities in areas heavily populated by Blacks, I believe Blacks are the most affected by the illegal immigration problem.
What is your point for bringing up the fact that they take jobs from whites, too? Many whites already know that illegals are taking their jobs. But, they don’t vote 95% for the Democratic Party that assists the illegals to do just that.

“You seem to imply that Black Americans must be dumb to vote for Democrats.”

In fact, Hitler used the actual term “two Germanys” in some of his speeches. Jews in America ought to be well aware of Hitler’s “hate the rich Jews” message. They ought to be the most vocal in fighting this message that drove so many of their relatives to their deaths!

” Enforce existing laws and employers will no longer hire illegals.”

1) You are “enforcing the law” on business owners…not good for Republicans…not good for profits….

2) The places illegals settle already vote Democrat..and illegals don’t vote any more than they buy car insurance. What is the incentive for the Democratic Party?

3) Consider this choice; no job in America…no job in Mexico…why would they leave?

4) Some Labor leaders are comming out in favor of the “round them up and send em home” philosophy….hard to make the point that it is a Democrat vs Republican issue.

to anyone who thinks that these illegals are draining the resources of this country without contribuiting, consider this:

1. There has been little change in the racial composition of TANF families since FY 2002.
African-American families comprised 38 percent of TANF families, white families comprised 32
percent, 25 percent were Hispanic,

The racial distribution of TANF recipient children has not significantly changed when compared to FY 2002. African-American children continued to be the largest group of welfare children, comprising about 39 percent of recipient children. About 27 percent of TANF recipient children were white, and 28 percent were Hispanic.

As taken from p.14 of the 2006 TANF Annual Report to Congress

2. If these illegals are ‘taking’ jobs from others, and recieving a paycheck, they are paying taxes that they will never recieve the claimed benifits of, hence injecting free money into Social Security national fund that is reportedly shrinking due to baby-boomers. Sounds like a pretty sweet deal.

JD asked: “Are you agreeing with me that illegals take jobs from poor Blacks or are you alleging that they only take jobs from poor whites?”

I agree they are taking jobs from poor people of all racial groups, and depressing the wages of all racial groups. Why do you continue to address this in racial terms. It is not a racial issue, it is an economic issue and jobs/labor issue.

JD said: “I believe Blacks are the most affected by the illegal immigration problem. ”

Man, you really have to let go of this racial prejudice of yours. Southern California agricultural areas have almost NO blacks, JD. Illegal aliens have taken construction, motel, and many other jobs in Nebraska and Iowa where African Americans are an extremely small percentage of the population.

JD said: “Thank you, David for admitting that I’m right.”

Thank you JD for agreeing with me.

JD asked: “How will the Democrats voting to raise the minimum wage help poor Blacks in America when illegal immigrants have their jobs?”

Apparently it didn’t occur to you before asking that to check on the labor statistics of poor Blacks. For if you had, you would have answered your own question. Millions of poor Blacks are still employed, hence, many will benefit from the minimum wage hike.

Also, in case you hadn’t noticed, the min. wage increase was a bi-partisan bill, above and beyond the Republican definition of having Sen. Joe Lieberman vote with them. Why do you call it a Democrat’s legislation? Does partisanship distortion and racial prejudice of the facts encroach upon your comments like this often?

To all,

The problem I have with the illegal immigration issue is that it has somehow turned into a problem with Mexicans. There are many illegal immigrants in the United States from all over the world.
We must address the issue of taking the access to low paying jobs away from all illegal immigrants. That means politicians all across this nation telling their golf buddies and wealthy donors to stop hiring them.
If we had no..say good cheeseburger stands in the United States, but they had great ones in Canada. I’d be slipping across the border in a moose suit every week.
Take away the burgers and I’d stay home and invest in a George Forman Grill. Make the lack of jobs the problem of the leaders of Mexico, Canada, Africa, Middle East or wherever. If we supply them, there is no job problem or unrest in their countries.

Rule of law, vs. rule of men. They broke the law. Why should non-citizens get a pass for breaking the law when citizens are punished for doing so? It is a question of rule of law, we either embrace it and abide by it, or throw the law out the window and get serious about our anarchy.

Andre, good points up to a point. Take away their legal jobs, and many of them will seek and create illegal jobs. Illegal jobs in America pay better than the illegal jobs in their home country, as well. Those that do return voluntarily will be replaced, given unsecured borders, by those without a problem coming here for jobs in the underground economy of drugs, prostitution, gambling, scams, identity theft, and off the book jobs like home landscaping owned by citizens dodging their taxes by converting substantial portions of their business to a cash basis only, never to be reported. Illegal alien labor is almost prerequisite for that kind of tax dodging.

Our underground economy is a trillion dollars a year industry. It will grow if the borders are left wide open and legal jobs are prevented from being held by illegal immigrants.

Democrats still don’t get it. Reason: They don’t want to get it, despite the impeccable reasoning, ample research, and evidence backing up that reasoning which I just outlined.

“40.2% of the Hispanic population in the U.S. is foreign-born.” (U.S. Census Bureau)

3% of white and 7% of Blacks are foreign-born.

“52.1% of those entered after 1990.”(U.S. Census Bureau)

“Only 7% of those entering after 1990 have obtained citizenship.”(U.S. Census Bureau)

“45.6% lived in Central cities within Metropolitan areas.”(U.S. Census Bureau)

How can they be working in agriculture living in the inner cities of Metropolitan areas? There aren’t too many agricultural farms dotting the New York cityscape!

“8.7% lived in non-Metropolitan areas”(U.S. Census Bureau)

You know, the non-Metropolitan areas where like “Green Acres” was filmed back in the 60’s and 70’s! Ah, yes, fresh air! Hmm, 8.7%!! Is it really that high?

“49 percent (of foreign-born Hispanics) haven’t completed high school, compared with 9 percent of native-born Americans and 25 percent of legal immigrants.”(NPR report)

“A new analysis of public school enrollment data by the Pew Hispanic Center finds that in the dozen years from 1993-94 to 2005-06, white students became less isolated from minority students while, at the same time, black and Hispanic students became slightly more isolated from white students.
These two seemingly contradictory trends stem mainly from the same powerful demographic shift that took place during this period: an increase of more than ((((55%)))) in the Hispanic slice of the public school population. Latinos in 2005-06 accounted for 19.8% of all public school students, up from 12.7% in 1993-94.”

The claim is that large numbers of Hispanic and Black students are going to high-minority schools, (those schools with less than 5% white students).

What is drawing the illegal immigrants? Free inner city education!!!!!!

“About 3 percent work in agriculture; 33 percent have jobs in service industries; and substantial numbers can be found in construction and related occupations (16 percent) and in production, installation and repair (17 percent).”(NPR report)

11.6% of whites work in a service industry according to the U.S. Census Bureau. So, who is it that primarily works in the service industries? Whose jobs are the illeqal immigrants taking again?

“Hispanics accounted for half of the 2.9 million U.S. population growth between 2003 and 2004, according to new data from the Census Bureau.”
“One-in-five kids under the age of five is now Hispanic.”(U.S. Census Bureau)

“An estimated 13.9 million people — including 4.7 million children — live in families in which the head of household or the spouse is an unauthorized immigrant.”(NPR report)

The numbers once again prove me right!

— Sounds like more crime and illicit acts… instead why not let capitalism take its course and let the supply fill the demand while inovation builds progress and different jobs. Isn’t this a capitalist society where the market truly decides. If we were to regulate to extreame measures so all citizens make $10-20 per hour inflation would be so outrageous your prestigious jobs won’t matter. What happened to the republican ‘small government’ conservatism and free markets?

— or we make amendments to correct past mistakes and changing times… I just wish they had blogs back when everybody hated the German and Irish ‘illegal’ immigrants that broke their backs to build what we call home. My guess is that they wanted to ship ‘em back home and close the boarders, who here is Irish, German, English, French, Arabic, or Asian because it’s likely you or your friends probably shouldn’t be here if it wern’t for ‘illegal’ immigration. I don’t care “whatchusay!”

This man’s performance is just plain alarming. Alarming to Hillary, because she never imagined that there would be competition (of any nature). Alarming to Hillary Clinton because she never imagined that her could be competition of negroid descent. Alarming to Hillary Clinton since she made her ‘strategic (and potentiallly suicidal)’ remark down playing the importance of MLK, with preference for LBJ. Alarming to Hillary Clinton who was totally convinced that Bill Clinton’s participation—and relative (dirty) political tactics—would fuel her comeback. But alarming even more to Bill Clinton, the supposed to be ‘Black President,’ who has asked for so many ‘breaks’ that the Hillary Clinton campaign has been highly advised to break free of him (and his reputation). “Alarming?” Maybe that’s the wrong word. Obama is amazing. Persistent, and won’t back down. He has absolutely, positively, unequivacably opened mine eyes. He is assured my vote. And not just in the primaries. He is (apparently) the democratic representative for the presidency, and McCain and his strategist, have already started preparing.

Texas.

Ohio.
After that, …..

But you know something that keeps ticking me off is this super delegate thing. And how the news media keeps saying that there is going to have to be some “negotiation” come convention time. What is the need for negotiation, and why do they say everything but “HILLARY CLINTON, IF SHE DOES HAVE THE SUPPORT OF THE SUPER DELEGATES, WILL HAVE TO CONCEDE DEFEAT, AND RESPECT THE REQUESTS OF THE VOTERS WHO HAVE ELECTED OBAMA AS THEIR REPRESENTATIVE FOR THE DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATE FOR THE PRESIDENCY!” And it still ticks me off, that he (Obama) said that he would be willing to her as his VP, but she never said the same about him…(“Yes! We agree!”—but she never said specifically that she would have him as a VP.)

And Bill Clinton, is getting redder every day. Not just around the neck either. “We ain’t gonna concede to no black man! It just ain’t gonna happen! What do those dumb voters know?”
