After writing for Watchblog for 4 weeks now,I was wondering why I was getting up in the morning feeling kinda punch-drunk.
Anyway, thank goodness that things roll off my battle-hardened feathers or I’d actually have hurt feelings!
Anyway,I have decided to award the first MIGHTY EAGLE AWARDS to those of you who have slammed me the best…

In the spirit of compassionate conservatism,I want all of you to know how important it is to exchange ideas and debate the issues of the day.
Even though many of you slammed me like a door,I want to thank you all for posting and hopefully as the coming months unfold,we can better understand each other!
Keep posting away!

The nominees are:

I almost vomited when I read this.

Our prayers and condolences are with your wife as you have clearly lost your damn mind. Doesn’t hypocracy embarrass you in the least? Dost thou have no shame Eagle of Sicily? ”.

Good grief, I don’t even know where to start. This article is a rant. It is based on nothing but misunderstanding and misinterpretation…
Sicilian Eagle…you’re so wrong there is no point in trying to correct you. This is just a rediculous tirade. You kow nothing about the educational issues in this country.... Nothing at all. There in lies the real problem
Posted by: RGF at May 14, 2006 05:18 PM

I am disgusted with the tone of the article above, sicilian eagle. You are not looking for a solution or even a productive search for a solution. You are doing just as so many in your party have done before you…you are looking for a fight. Do our great country a favor, SE. STOP VOTING.

To not put too fine a point on it, It is clear here that you don’t know the meaning of scholarly or humor. Invective, smutty rant, right up your alley.

I always find it interesting that lawyers always tell us how they would defend someone. They lead us to believe they are follwoing their ethical code on how to get others off. Lawyers are one of the lowest forms of humanity I have ever met. Don’t give me that crap either about everyone hates a lawyer until they need one. Most of us wouldn’t be in a position of needing one if they hadn’t already brought so many ridiculous lawsuits to the courts.

And the winner is........

As you magnificently soar on the thermals, your wings taut against the breeze, your feathers shimmering in the sunlight, eyes wide to the wonders of the world…as you look down from the grandiose heights in which you thrive, remember this, my friend:
The left sees not your majesty, nor how eloquently you speak the truth, nor how wisely you engage others with your opinions, for their world is too far beneath you. They see only the black and white spatter you leave on their windshield and thus conclude that is all there is to see. If only they could see the full picture of how you chase down prey, the magnificent violent machine that you are, and the symbol of victory. But alas, they cannot, for as they engage their wipers, smearing the last vestiges of your knowledge on the glass, they are left with nothing but the need for a good cleansing.

Your initiation into the fray was handled with the greatest of applomb. I tip my hat. Look forward to many more exchanges of views, history, and perspectives and debates in the future. You know that liberals don’t hate or say nasty things. Posting actual examples of what they write will make them seem nasty or petty.

The thing about your examples is that they are all from well know posters. They will counter with examples from the provocateurs. You know - those guys who write extremist stuff along with the mandatory misspelling, probably written by lefties under false flag. It is very clear that we are nicer to them and theirs than they are to us and ours. No surprise, except to them.

This was a whimsical piece..a kinda thank you to all that responded.
It’s nice to take a step back every once in a while and see how the other side writes, though.

I went through all my previous pieces this month and most of the posters above I respect,to be honest….I might not agree with them..but respect them nonetheless.

Anyway,it was fun.

I respect those you mention too and I actually enjoy and sometimes write specifically for them. But it is interesting that so many people feel free to call us all sorts of things and yet call us the haters. There was practically a whole thread on the other side debating whether I was evil or just stupid.

I do believe that there is a generally held opinion on the left end that people on the right must be one or the other, or that we are uneducated or misinformed. I suppose we sometimes cannot understand how they can hold some of the opinions they do and that is what makes it fun, but we tend to be a little more elegant or subtle in our put downs.

My complaint is not with the spelling. I am worse than many in this regard. BUT sometimes we get false posts supposedly written by conservatives full of mistakes and inconsistencies. I supect they are bogus. Soon after one appears, we get a lefty poster saying something “like there you go again.” It seems to me these posts are almost always by people we don’t see often. Maybe not what they say they are.

Thank you, Ron.

Sic Eagle, I’m honored — deeply honored — to accept this award, although I must say, I assumed it would be something more than an eagle feather stuck into a old wad of used chewing gum…
Anyway, I’d like to thank my husband, just for being so loveable. My family, for letting me know that I am not a doormat, so no one should ever wipe their feet on me. And finally I’d like to thank all of the insufferably spoiled rich kids I grew up with, for teaching me that sarcasm is very good way to deflate an overstuffed ego.

This tongue and cheek item is funny and illuminating. We have all, those of us who have been posting awhile, got good at pushing each other’s buttons. I’d like to see that stop.

The blurb about education for which I was nominated was my response after reading an article by you that struck me as sooooo completely wrong that I was actually stunned by it. I have many teachers among family and friends. In fact, no other profession is so represented among those people who are closely in my life. I considered it myself, but I have the mentality of a crusader knight or a Don Quixote and must do battle (of the kind done without physical harm to others) as a part of who I am.

You and Jack have both fished for the kind of spirited responses you tend to get, so it is hardly right to pretend to have the moral high ground when you get them, Jack.

The education blurb has reminded me of something: We all have very different backgrounds, experiences and perspectives. Blogging here in an inteligent way at least implies we have enough wits to analyze a few facts and put together effective communications. I would like to open this up to the forum it was intended to be and share these perspectives so as to understand each other better.

Education, for instance, is VITAL to sustaining our representative democracy. So we should, hopefully, be able to discuss it and find some deeper understandings from each other, should we not? Naturally, I believe my perspectives in this area have validity based on my experiences, but I recognize that a certain amount of that is ego and pride and so I am willing to listen as well as talk.

I will offer a few thoughts first:

Vouchers will not work in public schools, or otherewise, because everybody pays different property tax and there would be an equal protection clause problem. We need to throw that option out once and for all.

Mandating single language education is not a good idea either because we have never made English the official language of our nation and requiring education in English first creates potential problems of the same kind. If we could do it, it would raise literacy rates and ultimately be a benefit. Maybe one day.

The best solution I can see is to pay teachers better. It will create a desire in more of the well educated, who perhaps would seek larger paychecks in other areas, to teach. We have finished near the bottom of the first world in educational standards for far too long.

I like the idea of free state-school tuition for students who qualify. This could be problematic, however. But, I do not like saddling those starting off in a profession with immense debt. It creates problems and narrows their choices to those large firms who pay well enough to grant each new hire with the means of staying afloat. This is potentially especially problematic with respect to MBA’s, JD’s, CPA’s, etc. Those fields where we have seen horrifc ethical violations induced by money.

I hope you didin’t take my rant personally I was just amped up yesterday because of talking with some soldiers and I had my fill of the whole media coverage of the story. You wouldn’t know it, but I do like your blog and read it regularly. Although I just started recently responding to blogs I find your’s usually informative and knowledgeable. Anyway, that is enough of being nice to a lawyer. Thanks again for the award and keep on writing.

Perhaps the reason that you see so many inconsistent posts from conservatives,is simply because they are at least partially fighting the dark forces.
I believe that no child is born bad,and no conservative(republican or otherwise) is totally without some goodness.
What you are seeing is the fact that the emotional, sensitive, thinking part of their brains,is attempting to control the greedy,selfish,war-mongering section.
Lobotomy anyone?

Maybe I could win The Paul and Pundit Award for pointing out the pointlessness, fighting the fictitious fabricated and fallacious falsehoods, destroying the dirty deceiving and deceptive dishonesties, and pulverizing the prevailing petty polarizing and puzzling political positions of the left.

Also the alliteration award.

The competition for the award is fierce;many internationialy known scholars are part of the panel….We have Russ Limbaugh,Pat Robinson, representing the centrist position, then we have Sean Hannity representing the moderate to slightly left position, then we have Bill O’Reilly representing the secular progressive position.Of course, the pope himself is the guy on hyper-left views such as abortion and gay marriage. We also have one Sunni Wabbabist and one Iranian Salafist on the fashion design committee, and for those with far right views,Micheal Moore himself has volunteereed to screen responses. Finally we have the chairman of EXXON-Mobil on the environmene.
Pretty good team,no?
