Immigration and Religion

A discussion is going on about the invasion by illegal aliens going on in our Nation. Most of the time we only hear about the ‘evil’ Mexicans who break our laws by crossing the border without permission. Since I began writing this article our wonderful politicians have granted illegals SS benefits. Just who are they giving these benefits to? Just what is going on? Can Religion be playing a part in these decisions?

Recently Scottie wrote, "Only the far right-wing fanatics dream of an America without Mexicans, without minorities, and without non-whites."

How can anyone say that? If it weren't for the Mexicans, minorities, and non-whites the 'far right-wing fanatics' would have to clean their own toilets! and mow their own lawns! It cannot be true!

Anyway. Scottie's article, and Bishop Gerald Barnes, the bishop of San Bernardino, California, started me wondering how religion may be involved in the issue of immigration.

I researched his list of 55 Senators by religious affiliation.
The results are in...
19 Catholics of which 13 are Democrat.
10 Jewish of which 7 are Democrat.
The rest are made up of a variety of religious faiths but those two made up the majority.

At first, I was going to blame the fact that many of the illegal aliens crossing the border from the south are contributing to the church coffers and this may be a reason why the flow must not be stopped.

After discovering that Scotties 'list of 55' contained a majority of Catholics one could understand how I could have thought what I did about the churches. But, how many Jewish are crossing the southern border illegally? Not many is my guess.
Even though Catholics outnumber other religious faiths in the Senate when comparing by faith alone, Baptist, Methodist, Presbyterian, Episcopalian, and Jewish make up more than half - 54.

The current numbers on legal and illegal immigration are rather interesting.
"The foreign-born population of the United States is currently 33.1 million, equal to 11.5 percent of the U.S. population. Of this total, the Census Bureau estimates 8-9 million are illegal immigrants. Other estimates indicate a considerably higher number of illegal immigrants." - from above link.
"Following several years of steady growth, the number of undocumented residents reached an estimated 10.3 million in March 2004 with undocumented Mexicans numbering 5.9 million or 57 percent of the total." -quote found here.

So who makes up the other 43%?
A 2002 Profile of the Foreign-born Population from the Middle East is well worth a look.

Of the 'list of 55', eleven Senators are from states with the most immigrants from the Middle East. Seven of them are Catholic or Jewish. Interestingly, Texas is 3rd on the list with the most immigrants from the Mid-East, but has no Senators on the 'list of 55'.

I wish the following stats - (with asterisks), from the above link, were more up to date. If anyone knows of a better place to get these stats....

* "Middle Easterners are one of the fastest growing immigrant groups in America. While the size of the overall immigrant population (legal and illegal) has tripled since 1970, the number of immigrants from the Middle East has grown more than seven-fold, from fewer than 200,000 in 1970 to nearly 1.5 million in 2000."

* "The INS last estimated that 150,000, or about 10 percent, of Middle Eastern immigrants are illegal aliens. Preliminary Census Bureau estimates show a similar number."

* "These figures do not include the 570,000 U.S.-born children (under age 18) who have at least one parent born in the Middle East, a number expected to grow to 950,000 by 2010."

* "The religious composition of Middle Eastern immigrants has changed dramatically over the past thirty years. In 1970, an estimated 15 percent (29,000) of immigrants from the region were Muslim; the rest were mostly Christians from Lebanon or Christian ethnic minorities such as Armenians fleeing predominately Muslim countries. By 2000, an estimated 73 percent (1.1 million) of all Middle Eastern immigrants were Muslim."

Iran, Pakistan, and Iraq top the list of Muslim countries with the most immigrants to the U.S.
California, New York, and Texas top the list with the largest populations from the Mid-East. Of these immigrants, the majorities are from Iran and Pakistan.
These same states top the list of where the Mexicans migrate (pg2-bottom)to. Here is info on the religions of Mexican immigrants called 'Expression, Not Confession'.

*"While many Middle Easterners are well-educated and prosperous, a significant share are poor and make use of America's welfare system. In 2000, nearly one in five Middle Eastern immigrants and their young children lived in poverty, compared to about one in 10 natives; 23 percent used at least one major welfare program, compared to only 15 percent of natives."

*"Table 2 reports the INS estimates of the size of the illegal Middle Eastern population in the United States by country. It shows that approximately 150,000 people from the Middle East resided in the United States illegally in 1996. It is reasonable to assume that this population has grown since that time, but assuming it has not, then about 10 percent of the total Middle Eastern immigrants were illegally in the country in 2000."

Pakistan, Iran, and Lebanon top this list.

It appears to me that those we elected to office are not listening to their legal constituents.
It's not that we do not want people to become citizens of the United States. It's just that we would prefer they do it the correct way. Go out and come back in again.
No amnesty.
If we had a guest worker program that made sense and would actually work....
Many workers would come and go because they really have no interest in becoming citizens.

When our President talks about the immigration issue he tells us about how people come here from Mexico to work to feed their families. Okay. You've tugged at my heart strings but you are not being completely honest with us.

Just yesterday I heard, again, a story about Hezbollah sleeper cells that are already here in the U.S. How many of these terrorists are here illegally? How many will be put on the path to citizenship? How many are now eligible for SS benefits? If they accidentally get hurt on the job - making car bombs - will some lawyer be able to get them benefits because the U.S. can't refuse payment due to their line of work? It wouldn't surprise me any.
What happens once an unknown terrorist, because they have no criminal record, is given citizenship?

So... are our Politicians playing the odds? Are they taking a chance that the majority of people who migrate to our Nation continue to be of anything but the RADICAL Islamic faith? At least until the Middle East begins to stabilize and the governments give their people more reason to stay than leave? Until their governments stop blaming all the problems of their people on the Western Nations? Until 'Hate for America' is no longer a draw for those who become terrorists?
The majority of immigrants from the Mid-East are peaceful people. The problem is... it doesn't take the 'majority' to create chaos. Again. No amnesty.
Control ALL the entry points into our Great Nation and THEN we will have a serious discussion about those who are already here and what to do about them.

Holy Crap! It’s the Catholics and Jews who are ruining America!

At first, I thought those 55 Senators who are insisting we lock down the borders AND bring the 12 million illegal immigrants into the light of day were doing so because it was just and right.

But now I see it’s because those dirty Jews and Catholics are out to destroy America. Thanks for opening my eyes, Dawn.

By this line of reasoning, 100 years ago we would have kept the Jews out of America because some of them were influenced by Bolshevik ideas.

You know we have a bunch of idiots in the Senate when they argue the point that “English only is racist”. They also are allowing the illegals to clear their identity theft, when they forged documents to get into this country. That’s just absurd.

And, Ron, (unfortunately) getting new people in their won’t be as effective as long as the “special interest” groups have their way; as they are doing now. Though, we really should remove politicians that are soft on illegals.

Looking at this problem from idealistic points of view is what has put us in the situation we are in now. From a practical point of view, mass deportation and total lock-down of the border are not possible.

The problem is the immigration system in this country is incredibly inefficient. The best way to stem illegal immigration is to make legal immigration a more effective, clear and fair process. Until that happens, people who want to come here will continue to find a way. If Cubans are willing to face likely death on a makeshift raft, do you really think Mexicans won’t be able to get around a fence?

Your comment shows a deep lack of understanding of American politics. Take any 10 new freshman Senators who face two incontravertible facts. Special Interests will give you money and support your campaign. Voters, having kicked your precessor out of office, demand they, the voters be 1st in line for consideration in legislation, over special interests.

How many of the 10 freshman Senators will see incumbency in their future with special interests at their side? How many will see incumbency in their future with the voters at their side? That’s right. Nine out of ten will seek voters votes over lobbyists dollars. Only Billy Bob Ray elected out of squalor in mosquito marsh bay Louisiana will take the Special Interest money and run. Serves the Special Interests right, too!

Of course its the Catholics that are ruining the country. The Irish ruined it when they came, as did the Italians, Poles, Czecks, and all fo the other eastern and southern Europeans. Catholics all. The one trend that has been true of all of the mass hysteria against immigration was that Catholics have been singled out for being the wrong faith and faced discrimination because of it.

The real issue today is not the religion of these immigrants, but how they get here. While illegal immigration was practiced back when it took a long trip on a slow boat to get to America, it was in nothing like the numbers we see today. Hispanics of all nationalities are second only to German Americans in terms of numbers. We need a policy that allows for immigration but we need to couple this with actually securing our borders. If someone with Mexico with almost no money and very little education can cross the border undetected, how hard would it be for a well funded terrorist or group of terrorists to do the same?

Beyond the security issue, this latest wave of immigrants poses another challenge. By not demanding English be spoken, we have made a mess for ourselves. While I think it couldn’t hurt America if more of us were bilingual, it should not be to accomodate illegal immigrants.

We also didn’t have such a huge social welfare program in the earlier waves of immigration. While many immigrants, legal or illegal, prosper by hard work, one cheating the system is too many. We need to clamp down on any abuse of our welfare programs and make fraudulent use grounds for immediate and permanent deportation.

Not all the news is bad, however. Conservatives have a golden opportunity if we take it. Most immigrants are traditionalist Catholics who are socially conservative in their outlook on many issues such as abortion, sexual immorality, drugs, gay marriage, and a host of other issues. As they gain acceptance into the mainstream and move into the economic middle class, they could become a great asset to conservatives at the polls provided we don’t alientate them completely now.

Like it or not, we’ve created the current mess by electing and re-electing politicians who are soft on the issue. We need to secure our border and establish a guest worker program for unskilled labor. Beyond this, we should be actively recruiting the best and brightest to immigrate to America, especially from Asia. China is a rising power with the potential to make the old Soviet Union look like a Boy Scout troop. Brining in well educated and motivated people from these countries will give us the advantages of thier talents while taking them away from nations that might threaten us in the future. We should be guided by common sense in this, and make sure our votes call for it as well

Many of the Catholic churches have offered “sanctuary” to the illegals. Many of the Catholic priests in California and Arizona subscribe to this.

It’s obvious…
Catholics don’t believe in birth control, so the more Catholics the liberals let into the country, the more future voters they have.
Twenty years ago, when the illegals were given amnesty, the Texas papers all made a big deal about one 94 year old illegal lady finally being able to get her citizenship brecause they let her take the test and oath in Spanish. She had lived in the U.S. for 82 years and never learned to speak English.
That’s how much the illegals want to assimilate!

Render unto God the things that are Gods’.
Render unto Caesar(government)the things that are Caesars’.

Our government says they are illegal.
My God says they are his children. Obey God in spirit and truth by loving those who simply yearn after freedom, participate in the wonderful experience of a representative republic and vote for change. Obey earthly leaders by following the laws you are governed by. If no law exsists, follow a spiritual law. If it exsists and is contrary to scripture, work in humility to change the system,(Ghandi-Rosa Parks-MLK). If it exsists and simply acts to frustrate one wishes to do something faster than law allows, follow the law and work within the system to change it in an orderly, lawful manner. Once laws are ignored that ought not be, there is sure to be a breakdown in society as one group or gender or individual feels he/she/they should be allowed to do as they wish, regardless of the legality of it. How do you enforce that?

Hey dawn, thanks for the Catholic bashing,I just don’t feel right if I am not maligned at least once a day. The fallacy in bemoaning immigration legal or otherwise is that it is inevitable. While I might agree that stricter border remedies are needed, the fact that millions of undocumented are here is not in question. Some of them are going to need social services of some kind. Of course there is another solution that may appeal to you. Years ago in response to a English complaint about the Irish overpopulation and costs inherent in their upkeep,a clever author suggested that they should be encouraged to breed. This way the English Gentry could EAT THEIR YOUNG! Hows that work for you dawn. Immigrants The other white meat.

Many countries do not allow immigrants that are not professional people. This is because they realize, in order to be in a position to take care of others - first you must take care of your own. The United States needs to take this stand. We all know many from other countries do come here and take advantage of our many advantages at the average taxpayers expense, however, Mexico is an immediate problem and needs be taken care of immediately. Note the following
1 -Less than 2% of illegal aliens are picking our crops but 29% are on welfare. http://www.cis.org/
2 -The cost of illegal immigration to the American taxpayer in 1997 was a NET (after subtractiing taxes immigrants pay) $70 BILLION a year (Prof. Donald Huddle, Rice University)
3 -The lifetime fiscal impact (taxes paid minus services used) for the average adult Mexican immigrant is a NEGATIVE
4 - 29% of inmates in federal prisons are illegal aliens
5 -70% of the United States annual population growth (over 90% of California, Florida and New York) result from immigration
THE REST OF THESE ARE QUOTES FROM THE LOS ANGELES TIMES
6 - 40% of all workers in LA County (LA county has 10 million people) are working for cash and not paying taxes. This was because they are predominateltly illegal immigrants, working without a green card
7 -95% of warrants for murder in Los Angeles are for illegal aliens
8 -75% of people on the most wanted list in Los Angeles are illegal aliens.
9 - 2/3’s of births in Los Angeles County are to illegal aliens
10 -Mexicans on Medi-Cal whose births were paid for by taxpayer.
11 - Nearly 25% of all inmates in California detention centers are Mexican national here illegally.
12 -Over 300,000 illegal aliens in Los Angeles County are living in garages.
13 - The FBI reports half of all gang members in Los Angeles are most likely illegal aliens from south of the border.
14 - Nearly 60% of all occupants of HUD properties are illegal. (We pay for this)
15 -21 radio stations in LA are Spanish speaking
16 - In LA County 5.1 million people speak English 3.9 million speak Spanish (10.2 million people in LA County)

We are endangering our own future.

For those of you who don’t get it…
I was not bashing Catholics. I was pointing out that the majority of illegals would help to keep our country -religiously- about the same as it is now.
If the ‘flow’ is slowed on the southern border these stats would probably change unless the immigration laws change to provide for more people to be able to come from our south - legally.
The article I linked to about the religions of Mexican immigrants shows that they are converting to other religions. If anyone had read it….
Maybe - just maybe - this could have something to do with the fact that our so-called leaders won’t get serious about the immigration problem.

Not just immigration but our current war situation, etc. The democraps (opps) do not stand firm on an issue…they wait and see how Republicans stand and take the opposite stand regardless of any previous stand they have taken. (ON the record at that, they just realize that democraps are so laid back, lazy or whatever…that they will never know) Seriously, everyone…you do have to take care of your own first and educate yourselves…Hilary for instance..has taken both sides of every debate..the deciding factor is what the people want to hear at the moment…and that is the way it is with Democrats. Look at the fights they have picked just lately…my goodness, it is beyond belief what they will do to find something to fight about…it should embarrass all of them. There were a few things on your list that I was not aware of, such as the 300K living in garages, 21 Spanish speaking Radio stations in L.A… . you might consider dropping those from the list, because speaking spanish is not a problem in itself … not unless they also can not speak English, which presents a multitude of costly problems for education and government systems, potential traffic hazards, and other various communication problems that can become serious in emergency situations. And, living in a garage is not a crime. When I was 8 years of age, my family was poor, and I lived in a garage with my two brothers. So, you can strengthen you case by leaving off the few things that border on irrelevant or worse.

Also, you were wise to not bring religion into it. The problem has nothing to do with religion, race, color, ethnicity, gender, or nationality.

The problem is that U.S. voters keep re-electing the very same irresponsible incumbent politicians that want votes and cheap labor, and allow (even helped along) this illegal immigration problem to grow more and more out of control. Politicians were complicit by forcing states to accommodate illegal aliens. Government has ignored this problem for 20 years, just as it ignores many of our pressing problems until it is too late.

Making decisions on anecdotes without reference to facts not only is an ignorant form of thought, but your anecdote only emphasizes your ignorance of history. Many of the LEGAL immigrants from whom we are descended never learned English. I reside now in the Midwest, where many folks of German, Norwegian, Swedish and Dutch heritage live. They all tell of grandparents and greatgrandparents who never spoke in any language other than their native tongue. It is very difficult to learn a new language as an adult, and very few become proficient. This is as it always has been. Don’t try to be clever. It only soils you.

Democrats belong to the party that won”t legislate to keep your body parts out of others who would prefer that they not be there (pedophiles), consistantly show a preference for taking up to half of the money that the top five percent who take the risk and work their asses off for and then redistribute it at a higher rate the further down the economical ladder that they and, as far as the killing off of old people goes, have come up with the plan to kill them off to the tune of forty million before they ever get old.

jblym, a sincere question in regard to republicans polluting the air. If that is how they feel, where is the stash of air that they are going to breath after the rest of us have died?

This is such complete bullshit. Pedophilia is illegal and the only people killing babies are Republicans who refuse to take simple steps that would make health care affordable but would piss off their special interest campaign donors.

Not to mention that Republican insistance on completely ineffective “abstinance only” education and criminalizing abortion will not stop the tragic deaths of countless other infants; it would only sweep them under the rug.

Come back when you guys have practical, effective, and Christian solutions to abortion, poverty, and rape.

Hunter, I’m curious as to how a group of people who don’t believe in birth control would fall into the category of liberal. The Catholic vote used to go to the Democrats based on the fact that most Catholics were blue collar union workers. My father, who votes Republican, has been a forced member (he works in a closed shop) of the AFL-CIO for over 30 years and not once has it endorsed any Republican on any level for any office. My own Godparents, who are social conservatives, would still vote for Hillary Clinton over any Republican even if Abraham Lincoln was somehow reincarnated because the union tells them to.

As I mentioned in my earlier post, many Hispanics will vote generally Democrat now because Democrats court them and accomodate them better than Republicans. However, as I said, they are conservative socially. I’m Catholic and my parents are blue collar, and I’m in the Army and vote conservative Republicans even though it might be better for me to vote for Democrats. After all, I doubt I’d be in Iraq right now if Al Gore were president. I’d probably be in Germany listening to empty promises of justice for people who would keep attacking the U.S. while we did nothing.Dawn pointed out that many are converting, and its largely to more fundamentalist denominations, which already vote conservative.

I emphasize it again. We, the American people, made this mess for ourselves. We continue to put people in public office who don’t take border security seriously. We removed incentives for immigrants, legal and illegal, to learn English and then complain that they haven’t. Like it or not, its not practical nor probably even feasible to deport over 11 million people. President Bush’s plan seems to be about the best compromise we can hope for. Rather than bickering, we ought to applaud the fact that it finally looks like someone is going to do something about the border. Meanwhile, make your views known at the polls.

And BTW, I still find it offensive that Republicans can’t believe a bi-partisan coalition who want tough border security AND an effective plan to bring 12 million illegal immigrants out into the open where they can pay taxes and stop undermining American wages want them both because it’s the just, righteous, and Christian thing to do.

No, Republicans have to resort to racism, bigotry, and sectarian divisions to explain things. Ugh… Ah… Oh, never mind. Keep spewing your hate and avoiding real solutions, like you always do.

American Pundit,Paying lip service to your democratic creedo is the definition of crap. Giving a meeningful and well deserved punishment to these, the write offs to society due to a recidivision rate that is off the carts is being held upin most places by democrats in stste houses evrywhere and by li beral judges who obviously dont care about what happened to the child. A republican would prefer to incarcerate for decades so as to keep future victims safe. The dems seem to prefermonths, years or even the old “catch and release” so as not to stigmatize te poor deviant. As much as you hate to here it, I’ve only heard of one birth that took place throug abstinence. How about a woman owning her body before sex, rather than just after it? I personally have no ill feelings towards birth control, that is a catholic hang up. Rape or incest should be the women’s choice, even if tha doesn’t ssquare with my God. I believe that Jesus said that”there will be poverty always.” If you want to end poverty, get an education first. If you coose to drop out or not go at all, thats your decision, your responsibility. There will never be zero poverty because some people WILL NOT WORK! Try legislating that bit of the human condition away. You help the aged, infirm, mentaly disabled and children, those who cannot help themselves. Those that make bad choices live in squallor. Rape is easy. To prison for life, no parole. A woman falsly acusses, to prison for life. A rigged trial, perjury, prosocutorial misconduct, nt hearing all of the facts,to prison for life. These solutions would work just fine in the christian spirit of things. While Jesus said to forgive, He also made it clear numerous times that you must pay a penance for your unchristianly behaviour. And by the by, would I Not be called a fool if I closed the Canadian border in order to stop the millions of illegals that cross at the Mexican border? Why would I be a racist because I am bright enough to aknowledge what my own eyes see? If your mothers’ house were on fire, your telling me that you would feel more cosmopolitan throwing water on your brothers’ house instead? Yea, liberalism…good intentions , horrific results. Final note; if you really believe that the poloticians in the senate are doing this for”just and christian reasons” then you are too far gone to understand.

I’m sorry, scolex. You’ve become unintelligable. It’s impossible for me to decifer your response for all the misspellings and the lack of paragraphs and complete sentences, and frankly I don’t have the patience for that.

Maybe you can slow down the stream of consciousness writing and make a concise point. Thanks. :)

we could annex mexico, get rid of the drug rings, and the southern border would be easier to fence. we could put fox and friends in jail for corruption and make mexicos offical language English. Make them go to school so when instructions are in English/spanish they could read them. I can tell you that if they cannot read the instructions in English they cannot read them in spanish. this would put nafta out of business. or we could just blow the hell out of mexico and resettle it.

Lets deal with Sam first-if in fact you have been working with welfare families as you state, you should be aware of something called work fare, and the thousands of people we have put into meaningful, productive jobs. Part of the problem is that Republicans have been in bed with multinational corporations for so long that they no longer see the forest for the trees. Outsourcing,Minimization of well paid blue collar work, and the rape of social security and other funds to pay for bloated staffs that perpetuate harmful agendas is not working. This is the no child left behind administration that cant even keep our kids alive for God’s sake. Or havent you seen child mortality statistics for America! Archaic,Harmful laws against non violent drug offenders destroy lower and middle class families through incarceration .Or perhaps you dont subscribe to the idea of a nuclear family? Education Sam is the panacea for the disenfranchised.Public schools up to community college should be free for all.

Scolex-I am not sure that any Democratic party convention had “Free Pedophiles” platform. Perhaps you can direct me to where that may be found. Assuming however that this is not the case lets talk about your other statements. Yes,if you take the risk in the corporate world ,you should reap the rewards. I have read Atlas Shrugged. When your corporation reaps billions of dollars in undeserved profit due to general paranoia, this should be heavily taxed. In regards to clean air,no one is suggesting that Republicans are systematically trying to reduce the older more liberal population through legislation. It appears that it might just be a collateral benefit from unbridled greed.

Politicians are doing it mostly for votes and cheap labor.

But, the now also have to deal with the consequences of negligently ignoring the problem for 20 years (after the Amnesty of 1986).

Now, some politicians are pitting voters and illegal aliens against each other. There are degrees of culpability, and irresponsible, corrupt incumbent politicians are the most guilty (excluding the worst of the worst, being criminals guilty of felonies and various serious crimes). Culpability is as follows (1=least to blame, … 6=most to blame):

    • (1) least culpable: illegal aliens that are simply looking for work and a way to support their family. It is hard to be angry at those illegal aliens; but that does not justify amnesty or cutting to the front of the legal immigration line ;

    • (2) voters, that ignored the problem for 20+ years, and keep re-electing the very same incumbent politicians that use and abuse them;

    • (3) illegal aliens that abuse U.S. public benefits (e.g. 32% of illegal aliens receive welfare, Medicaid, Foodstamps, Medicare, Social Security, healthcare, drive about without a driver’s license or auto insurance, and use fake IDs).

    • (4) greedy employers of illegal aliens;

    • (5) most culpable Americans: irresponsible incumbent politicians, some that are now attempting to pit U.S. citizens and illegal aliens against each other, who are extremely negligent for ignoring this problem for 20 years and letting this problem grow out of control; and politicians will forget all about this issue immediately after the November elections (as usual); the most likely outcome is “nothing will change”; If breaking the law is a crime, our politicians are all criminals. Especially since many actively worked to force states to accommodate illegal aliens.

    • (6) criminal illegal aliens; 29% of all 2.2 million incarcerated in federal, state, and local prisons are illegal aliens. These all represent crimes that should have never happened. For a study group of 55,322 illegal aliens in Texas, Arizona, and California over 57 years, illegal aliens had an average arrest rate of 13 arrests per illegal alien, and one homicide every 86 hours. That is only for that 55,322 study group, which is only a small portion of the total 638,000 incarcerated illegal aliens. Crime in some areas is drastically out of control. In Los Angeles, 95% of all warrants for homicide are for illegal aliens, and 67% of all warrants for felonies are for illegal aliens.
Today, Vicente Fox is visiting Utah to lobby for amnesty for illegal aliens. What a hypocrite. According to statistics by the Salt Lake City Police Department, 80% of all drug crimes in the City are committed by illegal aliens. In Salt Lake County, the equivalent number is about 50%. That’s why Congressman Cannon of Utah is on the Immigration Subcommittee of the House Judiciary Committee, working to insure that interior states, like Utah, are not overlooked in the war on illegal immigration.

Religion does not appear to be a driving factor behind illegal immigration. The driving factors are:

    • all the magets that lure them,

    • greedy employers that illegally employ them and reap most of the profits, half of which don’t pay taxes, offer no health insurance and benefits, nor pay unemployment taxes;

    • complicit bought-and-paid-for, irresponsible, corrupt incumbent politicians,

    • and voters that keep re-electing the very same incumbent politicians that use and abuse everyone, and ignore numerous problems like this until they are out of control.

I fail to see how I can be accused of making generalizations from what I said. If several thousand of your “Christian” neighbors raped and killed young girls, then you could safely make that assumption, (at least in your neighborhood.
As for a logic course…been there, done that. My example of the old lady was only one of thousands one sees living in a border state. Catholics in and of themselves are not necessarily liberal, but the vast majority of illegal Hispanics are Catholic and logic says that as long as liberals keep giving social programs and benefits to them, they will probably vote liberal.
Yes, many of our previous generations didn’t speak English, but that was back when entire communities consisted of legal immigrants of like origins, and most of them…knowing that the seclusion of their communities could not last forever… insisted their children learn English in order to assimilate better into American society.

If you turn 25 and aren’t a liberal…you have no heart. If you turn 35 and are still a liberal…you have no brain.

I have a new solution for future illegal immigration. Let us build a canal from Texas to California. Make it one mile wide and on United States soil. We would control all of it and who can enter the canal. The canal would be three miles wide. It would support shipping and as a bonus be a new deterent to illegal entry into the United States. Considering that it will take the politicans years to get this done, we can just wait for the San Andreas fault and the earthquake to happen and that will be the first step in building the canal.

I would like to post a question to all the College graduates out there as you can probably tell I am not. The argument seems to be if we want 5 dollar a head of lettuce or 7 dollar strawberries.

    1. What is the growing season in the agricultural states for a. Lettuce, strawberries, grapes, oranges, grapefruit ECT. Brings the illegal aliens from Mexico?

    2. What is the work day for an illegal alien working these jobs?

    3. What do they do after their work is done for the season?

    4. What do they live on?

    5. Who pays unemployment benefits?

    6. What do they live on while they have no jobs?

Answer these questions and figure in unemployment benefits, medical, school, and health benefits and see what the real cost of a head of lettuce or a pound of strawberries.

Just a thought that someone smarter than myself could figure.

    Many thanks,

A dumb American citizen paying these benefits to criminals while our homeless and elderly do without so we can say we have cheap produce.
