It's all over, bar the suing
The GOP appears to have a lock on both Executive and Legislature now. It’s hard to imagine this one getting like 2000, although the Democrats will feel they have to make a stand one behalf all those who feel resentful/disenfranchised over the last election. So there may be challenges but within hours or days the concession will be made. Now the real fights among and within conservatives will begin.

Posted by: Alejo at November 3, 2004 08:24 AMAstute observation, Matthew. If Iraq and the economy and the deficits, all three, are not improved by 2008, Republican control could be in serious jeopardy. Bush will likely win, but, his margin of support is razor thin and contains a large number of centrists and moderates who are giving him the benefit of the doubt in a period of war.
They won’t be supporting Republicans if they fail to make noticeable improvements which moderates and centrists can both see and believe.
Posted by: David R. Remer at November 3, 2004 08:34 AMAlejo, 7.2 million other Americans have made that move while maintaining their citizenship. Not sure how to find the numbers who have voluntarily renounced their citizenship for Australia, Mexico, or Europe. Would be interesting to know however, if the immigration is being partially balanced out by emmigration.
Posted by: David R. Remer at November 3, 2004 08:40 AMWell, it should work out nicely for the neocons: All the well-educated, open-minded liberals will move to another country and be replaced by Mexicans who will work for next to nothing, allowing the wealth gap to widen further.
God, I’m bitter.
Posted by: Alejo at November 3, 2004 09:37 AMAlejo,
Not that I want to add to your bitterness but those underpaid Mexicans immigrants will not have access to the social welfare system especially after the repubs privatize it, perhaps underpaid people born in this country may not even have access to it either. Not only will the economic gap increase, but the rich will continue to line their pockets with money from the poor. Welcome to Bush’s vision. Maybe in four years we will be that much closer to a third world theocracy. Sweet, I cannot wait. Once all the well educated liberals move out then the neo-cons will be able to acheieve everything they have ever hoped for in terms of hegemonic domination and a new world order (oh wait I forgot they can do that anyway since all three branches of the government including both houses are under their watchful control) All I can say is that it will be hard to see our way out of this snafu!
