Palestinian Lawlessness
From USS Clueless I see that the factions of Palestinian thugs are fighting each other as reported by ABC News .
The Associated Press writes:
Gunmen shot and killed a well-known adviser to Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat in Gaza City early Tuesday, security officials said,
Khalid al-Zaben was the best-known Palestinian to be killed in what appears to be growing power struggles in Gaza City. There is concern that with the weakening of Arafat’s Palestinian Authority and a planned Israeli pullout from most of the Gaza Strip, a chaotic situation might result, with Islamic militant groups angling for power there.
Now I know that world opinion frowns upon chaotic situations. But from the Israeli point of view, chaotic isn't likely to be worse. Since the ill-advised Oslo accords, the Palestinian Authority has allowed things to be well-ordered in a way to facilitate nearly constant attacks on Israel. It isn't as if the only thing stopping Hezbollah and Hamas was the PLA. The PLA has been allowing terrorist groups to operate openly from its territory for almost a decade now. And it isn't picky about whether the groups are Islamist or not. Furthermore there is quite a bit of evidence that Arafat's groups conduct terrorism themselves. I won't be shedding a tear for the terrorist groups who spend time killing each other. And when one group kills enough of the other groups to gain power, we can negotiate with them if they want peace, and kill them if they do not.
Posted by Sebastian Holsclaw at March 4, 2004 03:11 AMHow could the PA (Palestinan Authority is PA not PLA) stop Hezbollah since the PA is in West Bank and Gaza, and the Hezbollah is in Lebanon?
Posted by: matthew hogan at March 6, 2004 10:36 AMI don’t understand the logic of your argument, Sebastian. On the one hand the Palestinian Authority is engaged in a tumultuous and even violent battle with other Palestinian groups, including “Islamic militant groups”, but on the other hand the Palestinian Authority should be held accountable for the actions of these groups?

Posted by: Christopher Fahey at March 6, 2004 03:43 PMJohn makes a great point. What about the Israeli army and their acts of terror, why are those different? Because the victims are muslim?
You cannot equate the situation in the middle east with other acts of terrorism in the world.
These are people fighting for their land, and their life. Ofcourse they’re going to take all the help they can get, they’re being robbed of their homes, their water and their sovreignity and they’re expected to just sit back and allow everything to be taken from them without a fight.
If you make that argument, then America by the same reasoning had no right to go to war with Afghanistan.
If you want to know the real history behind the conflict:

“On the one hand the Palestinian Authority is engaged in a tumultuous and even violent battle with other Palestinian groups, including “Islamic militant groups”, but on the other hand the Palestinian Authority should be held accountable for the actions of these groups?”
History.
The PLA coddled those groups for years, and only now is engaged in a violent battle with other Palestinian groups, and only for control of the region, not because they are trying to stop the groups from commiting acts of terror.
