FBI completes review of Weiner emails

James Comey has released a letter to Congress. It reads:

“Since my letter, the FBI investigative team worked around the clock to process and review a large volume of emails from a device obtained in an unrelated criminal investigation. During that process, we reviewed all of the communications that were to or from Hillary Clinton while she was Secretary of State. We have not changed our conclusions that we expressed in July with respect to Secretary Clinton.”

NBC's Pete Williams reports that all of the emails on Weiner's computer were duplicates of those already examined.

With Clinton's innocence affirmed once again, Republican accusations of criminality should end. Of course, "should" couldn't be further from the truth. I fully expect that this dead horse will continue to be beat in the comments below.

WP,
What makes this particularly interesting is the insight it gives us into the right wing disinformation machine.

It starts with Trump, the most blatantly dishonest politician most of us have ever seen. He called this “worse than Watergate” and said he expected her to be indicted. Virtually nothing he said about this turned out to be true. This morning some talking heads were chastising themselves over the role of media in the rise of Trump. The media chased ratings, gave him incredible amounts of free advertising during the primaries, and failed to call him out for his lies. The man is a serial liar. We all know that now. But the damage to the GOP and to the country has already been done.

Rudy Giuliani was a primary source of the disinformation.

FOX disseminated it. Bret Baier has already apologized for repeating a false story.

Conservatives and the Alt-Right believed in this fake scandal. Benghazi!!! failed badly, and now the bitter disappointment of the fake e-mail scandal has turned into a twofer. Like I said when this happened, conspiracy theories die hard, and this one is dying harder than most.

It is probably too late for Comey’s letter to make any difference.

But I do think we will soon need to be asking a lot of questions about what happened to conservatism and the GOP. Trump threatened the fabric of our country- still does. The people behind him need to be called to account.

KAP,
The previous chairman of the Oversight Committee set a record for issuing more subpoenas than all the previous ones combined. Despite that, Issa accomplished precisely nothing. Fast & Furious, the fake IRS scandal, Benghazi!!!, and the e-mails generated a lot of nasty accusations, but turned out to be a complete bust.

Conservatives are hurting themselves more than they hurt Obama, or Hillary Clinton in the future. The have become the party that opposes everything, and a party which stands for nothing. That is, nothing positive.

The early turnout shows the GOP is about to get smoked, courtesy of Hispanic voters. Bye-bye Florida. Bye-bye Nevada.

phx8, IMO the Senate will go Dem but not the amount needed to pass anything, the House will remain Republican controlled. So as I said NOTHING will get done.

KAP,
Nothing? With HRC in the White House & the Democrats in charge of the Senate, the Supreme Court nominations will be filled. It might require doing away with filibusters on SCOTUS nominees, but the GOP made that the only option after Cruz, McCain, Burr, and others declared they would not confirm any HRC nominees, ever.

In addition, the party in control of the Executive Branch fills most of the positions that influence the economy, the armed services, and more. HRC will control foreign policy.

It would be great if the GOP cooperated and helped govern. Instead of obstructing and opposing everything, they could actually offer ways to build on what has been done and even improve it. Health care is an obvious example. Obviously they have no intention of doing that. Conservatives and Republicans are so far off the rails, it will take them years to become effective partners.

phx8, Still need 60 votes in the Senate and as far as co operating?? Hillary will be riddled with scandals and investigations. If elected if she make it through the first 2 years I will be surprised. Sorry phx8 but I think your Queen will be nothing more then a figure head, if elected, and with the ACA costs skyrocketing you may have a majority but I doubt very much it will be near 60. You can forget Ohio, Portman will be a senator for another 6 years. We fired the Idiot running against him 8 years ago from being Gov.

KAP,

Why not elect Strickland and let government actually function for a change?

Warped, Strickland almost bankrupted the state.

Warped, Ohio will give him to you if you want him so bad.

The state was “bankrupt” because the economy collapsed. Once it recovered, it was trivial to balance the books once again.

Warped, The economy suffered and we lost jobs under Strickland. He also went through a billion dollar rainy day fund like it was water and left it with $0.89. If he is so great why did he only have 1 term as governor? Like I said if you want him so bad we here in Ohio will give him to you. By the way he also spent an insane amount of money to remodel bathrooms in the Gov. Mansion.

If one isn’t going to exhaust a rainy day fund when the economy experiences the biggest recession of any of our lifetimes, then when else should it be used?

If he is so great why did he only have 1 term as governor?

In 2010, most voters had not seen the effects of the Obama recovery yet and they unleashed their anger on Democrats up and down the ballot.

By the way he also spent an insane amount of money to remodel bathrooms in the Gov. Mansion.

$250,000 for a new carriage house is not insane.

I already have two Democratic Senators committed to making government work again. Ohio is a basket case as long as it keeps sending obstructionists to DC. Posted by: Warren Porter at November 7, 2016 9:10 AM

So you are saying Warped, We should vote for someone even though we don’t agree with their policies just to make government work even though we don’t agree with the way they are handling things?

KAP,

Do you want to fix ObamaCare or are you fine with how it is right now? Nothing Rob Portman votes for will ever withstand a Presidential veto.

Do you want a full Supreme Court or are you fine with the current deadlock? Portman refuses to give the eminently qualified Merrick Garland even a cursory hearing.

Do you want budgetary sanity or another debt ceiling crisis?
Portman has already been an accomplice to government shutdowns and the like. Ted Strickland will reliably vote to keep the government open and on a sustainable path.

Ask yourself, whose policies do you actually agree with?

Warped, I do not nor did I ever agree with Strickland’s policies or Dem policies in the last 12 years. Obamacare was a joke when it was passed and is a bigger joke now. As far as SCOTUS justices I don’t want anymore liberal justices then we already have.

The simple truth is that the GOP got its hopes up with no clear idea of what the evidence actually demonstrated. They do this time and again trying to get cheap scandals, hoping to get ahead politically, and they end up screwing themselves on how things turn out because they can’t really pass the bar for due process. Trump wasn’t helping things by getting people to chant “lock her up!”

Stephen, So it’s a cheap scandal to have a private server in the basement of your home and sending classified material through it? Cheap scandal to possibly use foundation funds for pay to play? It would be a cheap scandal to not investigate these allegations.
