Scores Perish in Nice

In an apparent act of terrorism, a lorry has been driven into a crowd of people watching Bastille Day fireworks from Le Promenade des Anglais. The local press has reported at least 80 deaths and perhaps 100 injured (40 seriously, 18 critically). While no one has claimed responsibility. The havoc wreaked on the English walkway was an impressive feat for one man, but experts already speculate that DAESH may be responsible and the hunt is on for any possible accomplices.

Local media have also identified the perpetrator as a 31 year old Frenchman of Tunisian extraction. Official confirmation is still forthcoming. Until there is more to be learned, there is little more than can be said.

For the latest updates, I urge Watchbloggers to follow the latest from both Le Matin newspaper's site linked above as well as from France24.

What about the gun? Where’s the gun?

I don’t understand!

Goes to show you don’t need a GUN to do Mass killing.

There was no gun involved in the 9/11 attack either. This element of terror will use planes, trucks, explosives, guns or anything else that they can, to wreak the havoc that they wish. The main reason is to cause as much death and destruction that is possible but another reason is to turn the local citizenry against anyone that could resemble the religious or cultural beliefs they espouse. The terrorist would like to see countries deny immigration and even evict current residents back to their countries of origin where they can then use their power to control the freedom that these immigrants seek. We need to recognize the intelligent but diabolical decisions that they use, to not only cause death and destruction but to also foment mistrust and prejudice that they can then use to their own advantage.

I do not doubt that the organizers of these types of terrorist activity would really like to make even more grandiose attacks, such as poisoning a water supply of a major population area or even an EMP(Electro Magnetic Pulse) that could take down an electrical grid of a major population area.

The only way they will be defeated is by standing with each other in adamant defense of our freedom and liberty, they do not comprehend how to attack that fundamental belief in humanity because they prove they lack the capability to understand that by the very actions they commit.

Speaks, IMO we will see more of these type of attacks in the near future. It is much easier to drive a truck into a crowd of people then it is to carry a gun such as an AR 15 into a crowd. Plus the fact EXPLOSIVES can be in the truck causing more carnage.

By now you all probably know at least one gun was used in the attack. It looks like the murderer used one at the beginning of the attack and at the end. In one film sequence it looked like a motorcycle cop pulled up to the driver’s side of the truck, and then the cop went down. It looked to me like he had been shot. Maybe not. Details will come out.

The good news, if there is any, is that the gun and other ordnance will make it easier to trace accomplices.

About 10% of population in France is Muslim. Cops are trying to keep an eye on 10k known to have some contact with terrorism.

For the upcoming elections in May they need to ask themselves if they are better off than x years ago. Tough to get sovereignty back once it’s gone.

Corpocracy wants to keep bringing them in to put pressure on US worker wages. Matters little to the establishment that a few kids get run over as a result. And, the folks don’t seem to mind either. Next week it’s on to the next great thing.

Put down your arms boys and let’s talk “them” terrorists to death or submission as we did with past enemies. Disarm as Speakie has done and all will be well.

In a nation of 320 million, the death of a few hundred people a year is really trivial. Not that steps shouldn’t be taken to prevent it from happening, but the risk needs to be put in context of all the other threats to American lives.

Warren simply doesn’t understand that an enemy need not occupy territory to cause huge problems around the world.

It’s sad you can say that, Warren Porter. It shows a severe callousness.

But then again if Obama kills a few hundred innocent people it’s ok with you, so I can understand your thought process.

I suppose that’s why Democratics don’t want to discuss the deaths in Chicago’s gun free zone. It’s a means to an end. So what if a few hundred people a year are killed by guns in Chicago’s gun free zone! It is a dramatic way of illustrating their position on gun control.

huge problems around the world.

Define “huge problem”. While the deaths of hundreds of innocent civilians may be a serious issue, there are also much larger concerns out there killing many more people.

It shows a severe callousness.

Very true. I am not claiming to have opinions based upon emotion here. My argument is purely utilitarian.

When an amateur is asked to do a professional’s job, of course they will fail. The point is to expect more from our professionally trained law enforcement officers.

Warren Porter, wrap your narrow mind around this solution. It’s right up a Democratic’s alley.

Since the gun is the problem, take the gun away from police.

Your party’s entire position is based on that premise, that no one should have a gun. Alright then, defend your party’s position.

You say guns should be banned. You say police are too aggressive. Fine. Defend the premise to disarm police.

Where in any of my writing have I ever said all guns should be banned? Never, have I said that guns were the only problem. What you’ve written is pure hyperbole based upon NRA talking points.

I have made it clear that people have the right to keep and bear arms to protect their person and their property. Yes, I have suggested that there be limitations on the size of magazines and the caliber of some weapons. But that is a world away from banning all firearms.

In addition, there is a world of difference between an amateur civilian bearing arms and a trained professional law enforcement officer. The latter should be an expert in discerning which situations justify deadly force and which ones suggest nonviolent deescalation. The vast majority of cops already perform these determinations quite well. The problem in this country at the moment is the significant minority who are unable to make those distinctions. People who are unable to perform such basic duties of their job ought to find a new career.

AH…YES, the typical Leftie answer when police error. They should be superhuman says Warren; because of their training.

The Black Lives Community Leader in the video changed his mind after experiencing a threatening situation from a
police officers viewpoint…but not our Libbie Pal Warren. Wonder why that is? Facts don’t count I guess for Warren…just his superior opinion based upon…upon…upon…nothing.

The vast majority of police officers have no issues with “superhuman” tasks as fundamental as distinguishing genuine threats from harmless innocents.

As far as I know, neither Jarett Maupin, nor anyone else with any prominence within the BLM movement has ever advocated against compliance with a lawful order from the police. At the end of the exercise, Maupin did not change his mind (that is your misinterpretation). Rather, he simply said that he had undervalued the importance of complying with police orders to one’s personal safety.
