Liars & Truth Tellers

Over the last few months, movement conservatives have adopted a few memes that they hoped would guide them in the 2016 Presidential race. Namely, that Hillary R. Clinton is a liar and that outsider Republicans are truth-tellers. This week’s Friday News Dump contains astounding revelations regarding both.

Evidence for the former is usually demonstrated through innuendo and implication because we have no hard evidence that HRC has ever lied in a substantial or egregious manner. Up until now, the best hope the Republicans had of proving their talking point true came with the allegation that HRC may have sent or received classified information on her unsecured private email server. The fact that we had no evidence that this happened was no barrier for conservative propagandists. All that mattered to them was the fact that some material found on the server was retroactively classified right before being released to the public.

Chief among these retroactively classifed emails were two that were retroactively classified as "top secret", which is the most extreme classification used by our nation's intelligence services. However, this week we learned that the decision made last August to retroactively classify those two emails was made in error. I had long suspected that most of these retroactive classifications were frivolous, and it appears that I have been vindicated for the time being.

Now, the process of sifting through the data on Clinton's server is not yet complete. I do not deny that I may ultimately be proven wrong if a new revelation is made in the upcoming weeks. Nonetheless, this week's announcement ought to serve as a boost to HRC's recently reenergized campaign. Notably, Bernie Sanders' support in the polls has drifted downwards ever since the debate and Clinton's hearing before Congress.

Now, on to topic #2: The discovery that key details of Ben Carson's autobiography, Gifted Hands, were fabricated. Carson and other GOP outsiders have been lauded with a reputations as truth-tellers merely because they choose to be offensive and insulting rather than politically correct in certain situations. Now that Carson's story has been exposed as fraudulent, it will be fun to watch what the implications will be for the GOP primary. Already, Donald Trump has declared, "Well, I think it's really the beginning of the end". This comes after many other anecdotes from Ben Carson's autobiography have resisted verification.

Personally, I think this issue regarding West Point is a bit overblown. However, Trump is no stranger to beating over dead horses given his repeated antagonism with the media and others. Pair this with Carson's strange belief that the Pyramids of Giza are relics from the time of Joseph, built for storing grain rather than the remains of Khufu and his immediate successors and you can see how this is a recipe for Trump to hit Carson:

My prediction: Only one of the two will survive the next month. But we'll see.

UPDATE:

Happy Friday the 13th

So no hard evidence? You are just are kidding of course. You have to learn the difference between a lie and the truth. For an supposed person who has some college in your background and you have the nerve to say ” no hard evidence”. Maybe I have mixed up your semantics. Now I must say that you have no hard evidence of her telling the truth and this is not just in the last few years. She has a habit not telling the truth. In all honesty I don’t think she can spell truth after all it is a very tricky word to face the facts over. Funny, facts and truth do have a very clear relationship. Let me return to the phrase of “hard evidence”. Maybe you need a smoking gun to convince you that hard evidence means more than the smoking gun. Maybe the mary jane has influence over the smokin issue. I just wonder about the “hard evidence” and wonder just what conclusion you are trying to reach. I think Mr. Porter and O. Henry who is also known as Mr. Porter need to get their collective heads relocated.

Carson never explicitly wrote that he had applied for admission to West Point, although that was the clear implication of his claim to have received an offer of a “full scholarship,” a point that POLITICO’s initial report should have made clear.

“Clear implication”? Hmm…can we use that line with Hillary?

Now page 2. You are quick to say Mr. Carson is a fraud. That is a very sick conclusion. To jump with “no hard evidence” you have labeled Mr. Carson a liar. You have no evidence that he lied concerning this issue. Where are your facts and truth. Of course you don’t have facts and truth. You have proven that the monkey on the keyboard has come up with the chance that has shown he came up with the right combination to put some words together and lo and behold the words are very similar. It is just that the C letter in Clinton and the C in Carson name got twisted around but the ability of the monkey to come up with this strange chance combination, well it does take some overwhelming odds to get you conclusion. April 1st is still several months away. So you are probably warming up for an appearance on SNL on April 1st.

WP,
Conservatives are in a tough situation of their own making. They chose to wage a relentless attack on HRC for her supposed dishonesty and untrustworthiness. But then Hillary knocked it out of the park in the first debate, and in a broadcast televised nationwide, she humiliated the Benghazi Commission. FOX cut away from the last four hours, but the damage was already done. Conservative attacks failed, and Hillary Clinton responded to the badgering and hectoring and interruptions by remaining cool, collected, and in complete command of the details. She did this during an 11 hour hearing! Maintaining a story line about her dishonesty became virtually impossible.

Despite Hillary’s performance, WB conservatives ineffectively continued the attack on her, calling her a liar for some trivial matter. I kept asking conservatives on WB to name a GOP presidential candidate who was not a liar. NONE would name even one candidate. Not one. And now we see why.

Ben Carson took the lead in the polls recently. During the last GOP debate, when asked about his involvement with a company which makes a dietary supplement (and was fined $7 million for deceptive marketing), Carson denied any relationship. He suggested the whole thing was “total propaganda,” which brought cheers from the GOP audience, and then Carson blamed it on the media. Ah, but Carson was not telling the truth! He made two commercial videos and made four paid speaking engagements for the company.

Next came the bizarre statement about the Egyptian pyramids. It generated a lot of pretty funny stuff on the internet, but what was really interesting was Carson’s reaction. When it drew attention, he denounced “liberal progressives”; the idea being, that facts and evidence and proof and hard science are all part of a plot by the media and liberal progressives to discredit Carson, because he BELIEVES what he said was true. And that is what matters. Egyptologists be damned!

But denying lies, and then blaming the media and liberal progressives for noticing lies is a strategy filled with peril. Most people know the pyramids were not giant granaries, and most of us know that no amount of sincere belief- not even sincere appeals to gut level truthiness- will hide that.

Now it is even worse. It appears Carson is a fabricator, and that many details of his vaunted life story are made-up. It is not necessarily a big deal that he invented a story about turning down a scholarship from West Point (he did not- West Point does not offer scholarships, and he never applied in the first place), or that he made up a story about a class at Yale that demonstrated his integrity, when that class never existed. It is the pattern.

It is the accumulation, the aggregation. This causes two problems for conservatives: 1) it is difficult to attack Hillary Clinton for being untrustworthy when the GOP frontrunner is a chronic fabricator, and 2) it is difficult to denounce the MSM for covering fabrications, especially when it comes to bizarre statements about the pyramids, when even school children know Carson is just plain bizarre.

Tom Humes,

Show me one article where someone from the intelligence services responsible for investigating Clinton’s server states that any of the content on that server was marked classified at the time it was sent or relieved. Do this, and you shall have provided the “hard evidence”.

I’m not going to declare that we know with absolute certainty that Clinton has told us the truth. Hard evidence in the form outlined in the previous paragraph may manifest itself over the upcoming months. That said, there is no reason to jump to conclusions based upon emotions and feelings.

For the time being, Politifact has withheld a rating pending the completion of the investigation. That said, they do conclude:

We’ve noticed several Republican candidates claiming that Clinton negligently handled classified information. But they’re jumping the gun. There isn’t enough evidence to prove that. Some evidence suggests Clinton and her team went to some trouble to keep classified information out the email system.

This is not to say Clinton’s email setup was allowed or appropriate — for example, it skirted open records laws and presents challenges to archivists. And subsequent investigations may yield surprises or other unexpected evidence. But because of the way classification works and because of the incomplete record of her emails, we continue to reserve judgment.

Royal Flush,

My list of ten Hillary lies was refuted by phx8 with spin…not fact.

For the record, here is what phx8 wrote. At the time, you did not respond to any of his refutations, but continued to comment on other issues. Saying they are spin is easy. Demonstrating that they are spin is not.

Let’s revisit the list:

1) Do you have evidence HRC said Chelsea was beside the buildings on 9/11 rather than merely in a coffee-shop 12 blocks away?

2) Do you have evidence that HRC’s trip to Bosnia wasn’t a demonstration of her courage? Did the trip have the potential of being dangerous or was it a risk-free endeavor? Of course, HRC admitted a long time ago to exaggerating the scope of the danger, but reasonable minds categorize this as a “white lie” that doesn’t impugn the nature of the situation.

3) What was the mal-intent here?

4) Did the Clinton’s have substantial liquid assets in order to pay the bills on their upper-class lifestyle?

5) Did Clinton play zero role in the NI peace agreement?

6) Did Clinton claim she wasn’t fingerprinted?

7) Did Clinton refuse to voluntarily cooperate with any aspect of Issa’s investigation?

8) The State Department already had a copy of all the emails sent to or from the @state.gov addresses of HRC’s subordinates. This should have been sufficient to satisfy the “2009 National Archive requirements and federal records laws”. However, Foggy Bottom’s IT screwed up and none of that stuff was recoverable when Issa asked for it. As a result Clinton volunteered to publicize data from her server.

9)

HRC “I had one device.” She had multiple devices. She’s admitted as much in pre-campaign interviews and there are photos showing her using more than one device.

Zero evidence exists that HRC owned anything other than a single blackberry in 2009. She acquired an iPad in 2010. By February 2015, she had an iPhone and iPad mini as well, but the latter device was not released for sale until a scarce 3 months before the end of HRC’s tenure as SoS. Nothing contradicts HRC’s assertion that she was a single device woman in 2008 & 2009 when the decision to continue using the @clintonmail.com server was made.

10)

After denying she was involved in authorizing her State Department advisor Huma Abedin to double dip with private contracts while she was a federal employee, it was shown that Hillary signed off on the arrangement.

This is a complete fabrication. The referred document was signed by Cheryl Mills

Warren, do you understand the word “spin” as used by me?

Tom Humes.

I can say with certainty that we have hard evidence that West Point did not offer a scholarship to Ben Carson because West Point doesn’t offer scholarships. Every cadet has his education paid for by the taxpayer. Considering that Carson never pursued admission at West Point, I think the case is closed.

The other claims are more ambiguous. The “Bob” that was supposedly the victim of an attempted stabbing may exist and surface. I can give Dr. Carson the benefit of the doubt on this admittedly strange story. However, this is difficult when so many confidants of the young Carson consistently describe him as benevolent and without any propensity for violence.

The same goes for the anecdote of the psychology exam at Yale. We have hard evidence that no photograph was ever published in the Yale Daily News and we have hard evidence that no course of the name and number specified in Gifted Hands ever existed. Still, I will allow the possibility that Dr. Carson has merely forgotten the actual course name and number and that the photograph may have been dropped from the Yale Daily News for some benign reason.

As far as the Pyramids are concerned, we have plenty of hard evidence that they were built as necropolises for the Pharaohs and that they are poorly suited for storing grain. Carson is a liar for perpetuating this myth that he divined. Likewise, Ben Carson is a liar for dismissing his close relationship with Mannatech as propaganda. The same can also be said for his false description of his tax plan as “tithe based”. Clearly, he cannot balance the budget with a 15% flat tax without cutting government by more than 20% across the board.

Ultimately, the former are exaggerations for the purpose of vanity. In this case, they are similar to many of HRC’s white lies. I honestly would not care too much about them. However, the latter are very egregious falsehoods. While the Pyramids could be dismissed as ignorance rather than deceit, the lies about Mannatech and his tax proposal are unforgivable in my book. Ben Carson is a liar.

Calling phx8’s response “spin” is tantamount to claiming that phx8’s comments were devoid of facts and failed to address the issues you raised. Proving your claim to be true is not trivial and takes more effort than simply asserting it to be so.

Ben Carson wrote that he was offered a scholarship to attend West Point. In the mind of a reasonable person, there is a “clear implication” that Carson is claiming to have applied to West Point. Schools generally do not offer scholarships to people who have not been admitted.

On the other hand, the discovery retroactive classification of material found on Clinton’s server does not prompt a “clear implication” that Clinton sent or received contemporaneously classified material on her email server.

WP,
As for truth v lies, I would go along with what you said. But there are other statements by Carson that are equally ridiculous. For example, when asked about whether his lack of experience made him a poor choice for president, on 11/4/15 he said:

“Every signer of the Declaration of Independence had no elected office experience.”

This is absolutely, 100% wrong. The majority of the signers were experienced politicians. What makes this statement particularly strange is that Carson is doing a book tour right now about the Constitution. It’s almost as if Carson knows nothing about the subject. Of course, most of these kinds of books are ghost written, but still… The guy could at least try. Making statements about how Muslims should not be president and the signers of the Declaration were inexperienced politicians is ignorant, and ignorance is fine, of course, but this guy is running for President, and he leads his party at the polls right now!

“Over the last 15 months, we’ve traveled to every corner of the United States. I’ve now been in 57 states? I think one left to go.”

“It’s not surprising, then, they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.”

“I do think at a certain point you’ve made enough money.”

“UPS and FedEx are doing just fine, right? It’s the Post Office that’s always having problems.”

“The Cambridge police acted stupidly.”

Ignorant and racist statements made by OObama

“We can’t drive our SUVs and eat as much as we want and keep our homes on 72 degrees at all times … and then just expect that other countries are going to say OK. That’s not leadership. That’s not going to happen.”

“The issue here is not gonna be a list of accomplishments. As you said yourself, Steve, you know, I would put our legislative and foreign policy accomplishments in our first two years against any president – with the possible exceptions of Johnson, F.D.R., and Lincoln.”

“I have become a symbol of the possibility of America returning to our best traditions.”

“Whether we like it or not, we remain a dominant military superpower….”

“You know, the truth is that right after 9/11, I had a (flag) pin. Shortly after 9/11, particularly because as we’re talking about the Iraq war, that became a substitute for, I think, true patriotism, which is speaking out on issues that are of importance to our national security, I decided I won’t wear that pin on my chest…”

“I don’t believe it is possible to transcend race in this country. Race is a factor in this society. The legacy of Jim Crow and slavery has not gone away. It is not an accident that African-Americans experience high crime rates, are poor, and have less wealth. It is a direct result of our racial history.”

“It was usually an effective tactic, another one of those tricks I had learned: (White) People were satisfied so long as you were courteous and smiled and made no sudden moves. They were more than satisfied, they were relieved — such a pleasant surprise to find a well-mannered young black man who didn’t seem angry all the time.”

“That’s just how white folks will do you. It wasn’t merely the cruelty involved; I was learning that black people could be mean and then some. It was a particular brand of arrogance, an obtuseness in otherwise sane people that brought forth our bitter laughter. It was as if whites didn’t know that they were being cruel in the first place. Or at least thought you deserving of their scorn.”

“The point I was making was not that Grandmother harbors any racial animosity. She doesn’t. But she is a typical white person…”

Phx8 hey man Carson did correct that to no federal office experience! Certainly that makes up for all the nonsense he has spouted as he comes apart at the seams in his 15 minutes of fame, right? Howe can anybody take this guy seriously when he flubs this questions in such a weaselly fashion. I mean all he had to point out was the demand for non professional politician types by the fringe rightist voters. Instead he has to show why he is a clown not a contender.

Tee hee hee . Tom and Royal, giving the pathological Carson a free ride while trying to make a case against Hilary, you guys have your work cut out trying to spin the ongoing Clinton myth as it has crashed and burned. Even with the propensity of conservatives to ignore facts for the fiction they are fed by movement leaders, continuing this myth would damage your integrity had you any left. Millions spent by the idiot rightist wing of the HoR to persecute Hillary and a few interviews and a few hours of investigative work by the media to expose Carson. Yet you two clowns are arguing it is all about Hilary, that she is the deceptive one. Get a grip.

A hint for Royal, you know you are losing it when you have to resort to Obama after starting on Hillary. The “they did it to, no really they did it to” line is just pathetic. By this time in his presidency GWB had books written about his “ignorant statements”. All you can manage is a paragraph, so I would suggest you put a cork in it as your hypocrisy is showing.

The first thing that needs to be understood regarding this comment, is that there are Honest Christians in the European Union who do not Repress their Fellow Human Beings, and who do not commit Injustices against their Fellow Human Beings, and who have no thoughts or intentions to commit Evil against their Fellow Human Beings, and then there are the Catholics of the European Union.

There are some Muslim Countries in the World who do not Repress their Fellow Human Beings, and who do not commit Injustices against their Fellow Human Beings, and then there are the Muslims in Europe, and it needs to be understood that the mention of Countries refers to the Leaders of those Countries and most of the People of those Countries, while there are Citizens of every Race in Europe who are Objective with regards to the Facts, and All Leadrs of Every Country Know the Facts mentioned in this comment.

This comment contains some information proving that Germany and Catholicism in the European Union wants to use Islam in the European Union as their Secret Army for the Fourth Reich, and this is why Germany, and other Catholics support the Muslim Kosovo Albanians with their attempts to make Serbia’s Southern Province Independent.

Islam in Europe is being used as a Political Movement that is Independent of Law and of Democracy, and so there could be People who think that the European Union is Safer and Better Off without Catholicism and Islam in the European Union.

We know that the European Union President wants the European Union to Establish its own Army, and it is mainly Catholic Europe centred around the Germanic and Nordic Peoples who wish to Dominate the rest of Europe, and they are the Allies of the Muslim Albanians, and Muslim Bosnia in Europe, and France is pressured by Catholic Europe to follow Germanic and Nordic Europe.

We can see why the Catholic Countries of the European Union Act the way they do, and it is because, as European Catholics, they Love Evil, at http://itccs.org/2015/08/27/stopping-the-war-criminal-called-pope-francis-a-call-to-action-to-all-americans/ , and at https://theremustbejustice.wordpress.com/2014/02/13/once-the-ustasha-archbishop-stepinac-is-canonized-he-becomes-an-official-catholic-saint/ .

An Example of this is how Pope John Paul 2 beatified a Nazi War Criminal who was the Archbishop Stepinac of Croatia and the current Pope wants to make this Mass Murderer a Saint, and the Video is Titled: Nazi War Criminal and Roman Catholic Cardinal Stepinac at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ulHep8Saxok .

We know that Muslim Turkey is Guilty of several Genocides, and the one we hear of most of is the Armenian Genocide of 1915, and Turkey committed Genocides on Greeks and on others.

The Catholics in Europe are also Guilty of Genocide in Europe, and they wish to continue committing Genocide in Europe.

A Video of what the Catholic Church did under the Discreet and Evil Direction of the beatified Archbishop Stepinac in one part of Non Catholic Europe is Titled: Jasenovac - Cruelest Death Camp in WW2 (English subtitles) (WARNING — NOT CENSORED) at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=513VOo5P63Y .

We can see how the Radical Muslims of some of the Muslim Countries behave, and it needs to be said that not all Muslim Countries are Radical Fundamentalist Muslims, like the Radical Fundamentalist Muslims Countries like Bosnia and Albania in Europe, at http://shariaunveiled.wordpress.com/2013/07/24/if-a-picture-is-worth-a-thousand-words-3/ .

The Croats of the former Yugoslavia, and the Albanian Muslims, and the Muslims of Bosnia Herzegovina were the Allies of Hitler and other European Catholics, and they were involved in Genocide of Serbs and Jews in WW 2, and today the Muslims of Bosnia and the Muslim Kosovo Albanians are continuing their Cultural and Physical Genocide of the Serbian People which they began decades ago.

I think that if the beatified Archbishop Stepinac had the Technology of today, and if he was able to Genetically Engineer Lethal Viruses and discover Vaccines to these and Only Inoculate Catholics, then the Pope would have proclaimed Archbishop Stepinac a Saint, and the Catholic Church has the Money for this Research in Secret Underground Laboratories, and we do not know what Secret Research Turkey and Saudi Arabia are conducting on Genetically Engineered Lethal Viruses.

The World can Cope with a few Worthless Human Beings who happen to be ordinary People, but the World cannot survive if too Many of the Leaders of the more significant Countries of the World are Worthless People.

The World’s Leaders including the Turkish People Know that Turkey committed Genocide, and Turkey has not as yet Admitted and Apologized for its Genocide, and All Worthwhile Leaders of the World have long ago Acknowledged these Facts.

We know that Worthless Leaders of Countries are a Real Danger to this Planet, and All Leaders of the Countries of the World Know that it is Illegal for Serbia’s Province of Kosovo to join UNESCO, because of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1244, and Contray to Euro-American Lies and Propaganda, it is Euro-America who is Guilty and Slobodan Milosevic and Serbia are Innocent, and the Article is Titled: Why Albanians Fled During NATO Bombing at http://www.antiwar.com/rep/jared3.html .

The recent Turkish Elections gave Turkey a Muslim Government, and we will see how Turkey might Vote on Kosovo joining UNESCO, given that it is Illegal for Kosovo to join UNESCO, because of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1244, and it is also Immoral for Kosovo to join UNESCO.

The Religious People say that the Correct Way to Define Proper Conduct is with what is known as the Golden Rule.

“Do to others as you would have them do to you” (Luke 6:31).

All Countries want other Countries to Obey International Law for them, but many Catholic European Union Countries, and many Muslim Countries, think that they are Above the Law, and Above Human Norms.

Muslim Turkey has a Kurdish Minority that wants Independence, because they do not have their own Country of Kurdistan, and there are over 5,000 Races or Ethnic Groups on this Planet, but there are less than 200 Countries.

Muslim Turkey does not want to give the Kurdish People their own Country, but Turkey wants to make Serbia’s Province of Kosovo become an Independent Country, and unlike the Kurds, the Albanians already have a Country called Albania, even though no one is objecting to them being in neighbouring Countries, and the UNESCO Vote on Kosovo will be a Test of who practices Proper Conduct.

There are People who wonder why much of the European Union is the way it is, and it is because much of the European Union is dominated by Catholic Countries.

“They claim to know God, but they deny him by what they do. They are detestable, disobedient, and unfit to do anything good” (Titus 1:16).

Catholics and Muslims Know that Illegally changing borders, or Pressuring Nations to change their borders against their will is both a Sin against God and a Sin against People, and this is Wrong even to Non Religious People who have a Conscience.

“You shall not murder. You shall not commit adultery. You shall not steal. You shall not give false testimony against your neighbour. You shall not covet your neighbour’s house. You shall not covet your neighbour’s wife, or his manservant or maidservant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor” (Exodus 20:13-17).

“Cursed is he who moves his neighbour’s boundary mark. And all the people shall say, Amen” (Deuteronomy 27:17).

“Do not move the ancient boundary which your fathers have set” (Proverbs 22:28).

The Catholics have read the following Scriptures, and so they understand that God wants People to serve Him in the boundaries of their Country, and in a non-racist manner.

“And He made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined their appointed times and the boundaries of their habitation, that they would seek God, if perhaps they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us; for in Him we live and move and exist, as even some of your own poets have said, For we also are His children” (Acts 17:26-28).

Poland has a Catholic Government, and Turkey has a Muslim Government, and we will see if they and others will reflect Proper Conduct regarding the UNESCO Vote on Kosovo, and History has shown us that the Catholic Countries like Croatia, Germany, and others where the Most Guilty during WW 2, and Turkey should Confess to Committing Genocide on the Armenian People, and the Video is Titled: The Armenian Genocide at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6A1emayyhmI .

Former Director-General of UNESCO Federico Mayor opposes Kosovo’s membership in UNESCO, and the News Article is on the B 92 Website, and it is Titled: Former UNESCO chief against Kosovo’s membership at http://www.b92.net/eng/news/politics.php?yyyy=2015&mm=10&dd=26&nav_id=95832 .

The Ottoman Empire of the past, and Muslim Albanians of today have Proved what Europe will experience if they allow Catholicism and Islam to remain in the European Union at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greater_Albania , and at http://www.savekosovo.org/default.asp .

j2t2,
Yeah, that list of supposedly ignorant statements by RF about Obama is pretty lame. But ignoring the silliness of some of the statements for the moment, you have to ask: what is the point? That Obama makes ignorant statements, therefore it is acceptable for conservative politicians to make ignorant statements? Is that the criteria for a Republican candidate for the presidential nomination? Really? One would think RF would argue GOP candidates are better- otherwise, why bother taking sides?

Carson and Trump continue to lead in the polls. That is simply incredible. Carson says something really whacky almost every day. He’s not outrageous like Trump. He doesn’t say horrible, bigoted, misogynous things. No, Carson is on another planet. He is delusional. Carson seems to believe he has a personal pipeline to God. If Ben Carson wants something, he just prays, and believes, and presto-change! God makes it happen. Does Ben want his secretary to quit because he doesn’t like firing people? No problem! He prays, and God makes his secretary go quit. He never hears from her again. “We never did find out what happened to her. She simply disappeared.” Thanks, God! Does Ben Carson want to see a lot of animals on an African safari? Does he want God to “bless us with the opportunity to observe a wide variety of wildlife.” He merely petitions the Lord with prayer, and really believes, and what do you know! Animals everywhere! The guide says he has never seen so many! Good job, God! Lose his passport? He prays, he believes, and he finds his passport! Oh, oh, it’s magic!

These examples are from his books.

And this guy is leading the polls.

Treating God like his own personal Make a Wish Foundation is highly inappropriate. It is awful, if not outright blasphemous. But Carson boasts about it in his writing. And anyone who questions Carson is part of a media engaged in a “witch hunt” egged on by “liberal progressives.”

Is it possible for conservatism to sink lower?

That Carson is leading in the polls says something about the state of the union IMHO. It seems we have to many Brawndo drinkers in this country to sustain our system of government. One can only hope the next week will cure those who find Carson to be a possible candidate for president of this illness. Perhaps the race will heat up as he drops out and his admirers decide on the next best candidate to back.

I see the next debate will knock some of the candidates to the back burner and perhaps out of the race, tightening up the poll numbers. I would like to see some competition for Trump, he seems to get better with competition.

j2t2,
Hard for me to see Trump making much of a move from here. He’s fallen into a rut and repeats the same word tracks. His biggest successes these days seem to come when he attacks other GOP candidates. It is a target rich environment, that’s for sure. The other candidates have a terrible time responding to Trump. They can’t blame the media or “liberal progressives”, especially when Trump is standing right next to them on a debate stage.

A few candidates may drop off. Some are probably running for cabinet positions (Fiorina, Graham), or for VP (Rubio, Kasich), or in the case of Carson, to promote a book. If conservative voters actually notice how preposterous the Carson candidacy is, they will turn to the last viable survivors: Trump, Cruz, Rubio, Bush, and Kasich. At the outset I predicted Cruz. I will stand pat with that. But no doubt, Trump could win the GOP nomination.

Tough days for conservatives. None will even attempt to defend ANY of the GOP presidential candidates. The bubble of the conservative echo chamber once again came into contact with the cold hard rocks of reality, and the bubble popped. As Colbert so memorably put it, “reality has a liberal bias.”

Interesting article from WaPo on why Carson is reacting so strongly to the stories about his past:

“Carson’s up-from-nothing, saved-by-Jesus-and-personal-effort-only story works, primarily with white Republican voters. It works because for some it affirms the conscious or unconscious connections (stereotypes) they draw between blackness, poverty and violence. For others, it demonstrates that Jesus saves. And for others still, it is a narrative that says other, potentially costly social solutions to poverty and violence are not necessary. It says that small government can work.”

When Carson’s narrative comes under scrutiny and is found wanting, it destroys his message and appeal for white Republican voters. Was Carson a quiet, studious young man from a poor family who became a neurosurgeon? That’s nice. But that won’t do the trick of earning votes and selling books to conservative white Republicans. But if Carson was a violent young black man (and for conservative white Republicans, are there any other kind of young black men) that was saved by Jesus… Well, now we’re talking! It doesn’t take a social safety net to succeed- just Jesus and hard work. That sells books. That’s the kind of black man a conservative white Republican just might vote for.

And for conservative white Republicans, all that stuff about the pyramids was merely confusing. Maybe the pyramids were used to store grain. Maybe not. That’s just one of those icky hard rocks of reality that burst the conservative echo chamber’s bubble on contact.

Just in case you forgot Royal your guys went to war and cut taxes while leaving the cots off the books, why would you want to saddle your grandchildren to a horse who once elected borrows and spends like a republican?

I guess Royal you have fallen victim to the conservative myths that conservatives are fiscal responsible, imagine a man that age falling for such a line with so much evidence to the contrary. No question, conservatives have brought about this sad state of affairs for the GOP by their own behavior. Most of the Republican candidates promote economic policies that are the same as previous administrations: cut taxes, increase military spending, and the growth will be so great, it will make up for deficits. Of course, we all know what will happen: military spending will increase, tax cuts will mainly help the richest of the rich, and the we’ll see the deficit and national debt explode. It happened under Reagan, Bush 41, and Bush 43, and if the policies of Rubio, Cruz, Jeb!, and others are implemented, it will result in trillion dollar deficits again.

So conservatives have turned their backs on the traditional politicians. Now we have Trump. Now we have Carson, who has some fuzzy notion about tithing as the basis for economic policy. Conservatism has become a laughingstock, a complete joke, and conservatives don’t even bother to pretend anymore. Their candidates are ridiculous. Their ideas are bad. There’s nothing left but to project their failure in the form of anger, aim it at successful politicians like Obama and HRC, and pretend all the successes are nothing more than conspiracy theories and fraudulent statistics.

Btw, the last unemployment report saw the rate drop to 5.0, with 271,000 non-farm payroll jobs created.

So, 40+ years ago Carson is told he can go to West Point if he wants to, but didn’t officially apply for the guaranteed appointment because he decided to go into medicine instead. And because he called that offer a ‘scholarship,’ the left is bending over backwards to make this out to be have been an intentional lie done in a “substantial or egregious manner.”

“I remember landing under sniper fire. There was supposed to be some kind of a greeting ceremony at the airport, but instead we just ran with our heads down to get into the vehicles to get to our base.”

- Clinton falsely claims she received sniper fire, but the left dismisses it because it happened 12 years ago and she was tired.

“I thought it would be easier to carry just one device for my work and for my personal emails instead of two.”

- Clinton falsely claims she can’t use a govt server and must have a private server so she only has to carry one device. But the left dismisses it because she didn’t claim she carried more than one device until a few months later.

“Clinton: “I … provided all my emails that could possibly be work-related.””

- Clinton falsely claims they have provided all work-related emails, but some work related have since been found and two months worth are missing. But the left dismisses it because they weren’t classified and Clinton says she has no idea where they are.

“The server contains personal communications from my husband and me.”

- Clinton falsely claims her personal server was used only for personal business. But the left dismisses it because a few emails from Bill ‘probably’ were on the server.

If you guys are going to crucify Carson for what he says, the least you could do is have the integrity to hold Hillary to the same standards.
Of course, after the last seven years of lies and excuses telling us what Obama ‘really meant,’ I won’t hold my breath.

I get the point of what you wrote, Warren. I think the problem is that you don’t get the reality of what is going on.

Did I write that? No, I didn’t. Instead, I wrote, “Now that Carson’s story has been exposed as fraudulent, it will be fun to watch what the implications will be for the GOP primary.” Why am I interested in those implications? Because the GOP has hammered HRC hard for fibs regarding her “accomplishments” as First Lady. Now, Carson has been exposed as just as guilty of exaggerating and the shoe is now on the other foot. Please pass me some popcorn, this will be lots of fun next week at FBC’s debate.

IF you are applying the same standard to both, then why does Carson not get the same understanding and excuse making you give Clinton?
They deserve both. Obviously, Carson was very accomplished when he was in the ROTC and Clinton was very brave for venturing into a hostile war zone. Both of them embellished their respective stories and both of them got caught doing so. But here is where character makes its difference: Clinton was contrite and admitted her error when caught. Carson has vehemently denied the allegations, dismissing them as propaganda spun by the MSM.
possible lies of Carson vs. actual lies of Clinton.
Unlike trips to Bosnia, Everest mountaineers, West Point Scholarships or Yale psychology courses, Carson and Clinton are also both alleged to have committed egregious and significant lies. Let us examine them:

Carson has said that he had no relationship for Mannatech. Yet, Mannatech has paid Dr. Carson to deliver speeches endorsing the importance of glyconutrients. Dr. Carson continues to argue in favor of the efficacy of Mannatech’s products and his likeness featured prominently on Mannatech advertising. All this happened while Texas prosecuted Mannatech for fraudulent medical claims. Essentially, Carson schilled for snake oil salesmen and refuses to take responsibility.

Contrast this with Clinton, who has been under scrutiny for the server she maintained in Chappaqua, NY. Clinton has claimed that none of the material on her server was marked as classified at the time it was sent or received. Last Friday, it was discovered that two of the “top secret” files were actually classified frivolously.

Perhaps in the future, it will be discovered that Clinton did indeed mishandle information marked classified, but today that is neither here nor there. So, it turns out we have actual lies from Ben Carson and possible lies from Clinton. However, the rose-colored glasses of the Right prevent them from treating it this way.

Fraudulent - given to or using fraud, as a person; cheating; dishonest

Fabricate - invent or concoct (something), typically with deceitful intent

- Now that Carson’s story has been exposed as “fraudulent”

- key details of Ben Carson’s autobiography, Gifted Hands, were “fabricated”

“Did I write that?”

Yes.

“Why am I interested in those implications?”

Because Carson leads in the polls.

“Because the GOP has hammered HRC hard for fibs regarding her “accomplishments” as First Lady.”

Why do you use ‘fibs’ to explain Clinton’s lies, but use words like fraudulent and fabrication for Carson?

“Now, Carson has been exposed as just as guilty of exaggerating and the shoe is now on the other foot.”

If he is guilty, he is done. Nowhere near as guilty as Clinton, though.

“Clinton was contrite and admitted her error when caught.”

That’s because it is propaganda, Warren. People that mattered offered him an appointment, him calling it scholarship means nothing.

“Contrast this with Clinton, who has been under scrutiny for the server she maintained in Chappaqua, NY. Clinton has claimed that none of the material on her server was marked as classified at the time it was sent or received.”

An interesting aspect of the Carson campaign’s implosion has largely been ignored. Who is the source of these attacks?

It is possible that when Carson hit the top of the polls, a few intrepid journalists went out to cover the story and found all this stuff. Maybe it really was that easy. But I doubt it. Now, Carson did not do himself any favors by lying about Mannatech in a very public way, or making bizarre statements about the pyramids, the supposed political inexperience of the signers of the Declaration of Independence, or justifying his own inexperience by comparing Noah’s Ark to the experienced builders of the Titanic (don’t ask me to explain). Nevertheless, it was as if someone was pointing the journalists to where the bodies were buried.

Carson blamed the media and “liberal progressives.” That makes no sense. Democratic organizations would not release opposition research right now. Why should they? If they have anything good on him, they would wait until after Carson was already nominated. Is it the media? The media is merely the messenger. They’re looking for easy stories about the new front runner. They don’t want to work to get them. They can’t really afford it. Reporters in the field are too expensive.

More likely, the assault on Carson is coming from the opposition research provided by the campaign(s) of his Republican competitors for the nomination. At least two GOP candidates, Huckabee and Christie, have already been, shall we say, less than sympathetic towards Carson for all his boo-hooing.

Poor Carson. He wanted everyone to think he was so wise and intelligent and amazing. If only he had the wisdom not to embellish, exaggerate, lie, and say so many stupid things. It was a pretty good story without all that. He should have stuck with the simple truth.

Since you won’t answer, Royal, I will. There have been none in recent times despite all their rhetoric. However, Bill Clinton, a Democratic president, proposed and signed the Deficit Reduction Act of 1993 which raised taxes on higher incomes and cut government expenditures by 5% per year for five years. It was passed in Congress without one single Republican vote. It not only cut deficits but resulted in two years of surplus budgets.

Isn’t it interesting that many liberals justify our horrendous national debt and gigantic unfunded liability by noting both political parties had a hand in it.

Since it seems that both parties believe in deficit spending and over $100 Trillion in total debt it only follows that it must be a good thing.

My liberal friends will not even acknowledge this debt as a millstone around the neck of their progeny. They care not that the children of today and the future will be doomed to mass poverty by continue massive deficit spending.

RF,
The debt and unfunded liabilities are easy problems to solve. The question is whether to take action now, or let the growth of the economy solve the problem for us. Acting now would slow the economy. Letting growth go unhindered makes sense, especially considering the extraordinarily low interest rates now in place. If the unfunded liability becomes a real concern, it is easily solved by increasing the payroll cap on Social Security, and for health care, increasing the withholding.

It would be better if there were no national debt. Unfortunately, Reagan tripled the debt, Bush 41 increased it again, and Bush 43 nearly doubled that again, all through an ill-advised philosophy of increased military spending and tax cuts. The Obama administration dealt with the consequences, incurring large costs to save the country from a Great Depression, while preventing people from starving through unemployment benefits and the SNAP program. The effort succeeded. Currently the national debt has been stabilized @ $18.1 trillion, and the annual deficit has been decreased every single year, from $1.4 trillion when Obama entered office, to a little over $400 billion today.

The national debt will never be less than $3 trillion, since that is how much it is estimated to keep the bond market going. If nothing else changes and current trends remain in place- a very doable scenario- the annual federal deficit will be gone in four years and become surpluses. Next, the national debt will begin winding down, and all of this will be occurring against a steady backdrop of 2-3% growth.

Cheer up. There will ALWAYS be bears pushing doom and gloom. Ignore the naysayers. Your children and grandchildren will be on solid financial ground.

details of Ben Carson’s autobiography, Gifted Hands, were “fabricated”
“Fabricated” came from the original Politico headline. In hindsight I should have gave that sentence more thought. I should have used the word “false” instead. Same goes for “fraudulent”.
That’s because it is propaganda, Warren. People that mattered offered him an appointment, him calling it scholarship means nothing.

From what has been reported, none of what you wrote above is true. Westmoreland was not in Detroit in May 1969 and Carson could not have been offered a scholarship because West Point does not offer scholarships (all cadets have their tuition paid by the government). My guess is that someone lauded Carson for his work with the ROTC and told Carson that IF HE HAD APPLIED, that he would have no problem getting accepted at West Point and that he wouldn’t have to pay tuition.

Ultimately, this fib is of little consequence. It’s on par with Clinton’s erroneous claim regarding her trip to Bosnia. However, conservative WatchBlogges such as Royal Flush continue to cite Clinton’s Bosnian exaggeration as evdience of her dishonesty. If one thinks Clinton’s fib about Bosnia marks her as a liar, then one must conclude Dr. Carson is a liar as well.

Um, no. She said she was tired and had misspoke

In other words, she was contrite and admitted to having erred in her description of the events in Bosnia. Likewise, she has been honest with her mistaken claim regarding the origin of her name.

Sorry kctim, but your partisanship is showing.

She has stated that this server was for personal business
Did HRC ever claim the Chappaqua server was excluseively personal? Or was she merely mentioning that at least some of the emails were personal and therefore not to be released under FOIA or Congressional subpoena?
She has stated that she had turned over all work related emails
So far, there is zero evidence of any work-related emails existing on her server that weren’t turned over. You can speculate that such an email will be discovered, but that is no way to demonstrate dishonesty. Personally, I think it is possible that she deleted a few emails here and there in the course of doing business. I know I’ve deleted emails by accident a few times in my lifetime. I’m still quite it was all innocent and not a cover-up, but we will see. The FBI has possession of the server as well as the ability to recover any deleted emails.
She has stated it was only for convenience.
Again, I personally hope she was lying when she said this as it would at least dispel my conception that she is incompetent. That said, we have zero evidence disproving her claim. She only owned one device when she made the decision to use the Chappaqua server and it makes sense that she would want to have equal access to both her personal and work related emails on that device.
She has stated it was secure.
Just like the @state.gov server, the Chappaqua server lacked the security necessary to handle classified information. Like the @state.gov server, the Chappaqua server had security set up by Bryan Pagliano. Whether or not that can be considered “secure” cannot be answered objectively. My hunch is that the Chappaqua server was less secure that the State Department’s server, but still contained substantial security.
Does that mean they were not classified?
It means that over the summer, Inspector General I. Charles McCullough III decided to retroactively classify the information in those emails as he reviewed them prior to public release. The State Department protested the decision and James Clapper (Director of National Intelligence) arbitrated the issue in State’s favor. Thus, the retroactive classification was made in error.

Why was there confusion? From Politico: “Intelligence officials claimed one email in Clinton’s account was classified because it contained information from a top-secret intelligence community “product” or report, but a further review determined that the report was not issued until several days after the email in question was written, the source said.

Read more: http://www.politico.com/story/2015/11/hillary-clinton-email-no-highly-classified-215599#ixzz3r2WB6pPG”

And just to confirm, from the same source: “Various officials have confirmed that none of the Clinton emails was marked classified, although hundreds have now been deemed as such by State, nearly all at the Confidential level — the lowest tier of classification.

Read more: http://www.politico.com/story/2015/11/hillary-clinton-email-no-highly-classified-215599#ixzz3r2XlwSRv”

So we have zero “Top Secret” emails on Clinton’s server, we have zero “secret” emails on the server and we have a few hundred “confidential” emails on the server awaiting arbitration after they were retroactively classified this summer.

Actually, we have one lie by Carson and multiple lies by Clinton.

Thus far, we have zero proven lies from Clinton regarding the private email server. We have multiple Clinton fibs exaggerating her accomplishments as First Lady. We have a proven lie from Dr. Carson from his relationship with Mannatach. We also have a proven lie about his tax plan from the CNBC debate as well as numerous fibs about his youth. Seems like we have one person with two significant proven lies and a bunch of fibs and another person with a bunch of fibs, but zero proven significant lies.

Ben Carson is a liar. Hillary Clinton is a truth-teller.

How silly can a person get. Read this quote by phx8 and then reread it to observe left’s convoluted thinking.

“The effort succeeded. Currently the national debt has been stabilized @ $18.1 trillion, and the annual deficit has been decreased every single year, from $1.4 trillion when Obama entered office, to a little over $400 billion today.”

National debt stabilized, yet annual deficit in the hundreds of billions continues. Bald face lie.

It took The Budget Control Act of 2011 to curtail spending, not anything OObama did or didn’t do.

When OObama took over in January 2009, the total national debt stood at $10.6 trillion. That means the debt will have very nearly doubled during his eight years in office, and there is much more debt ahead with the abandonment of “sequestration” spending caps enacted in 2011.

Those of us with children have seen the debt on them double in just 8 short years. Wow…what a presidential legacy. And speaks celebrates the inevitable impoverishment of his progeny.

Then, to add to his bald face lies phx8 writes; “…the national debt will begin winding down, and all of this will be occurring against a steady backdrop of 2-3% growth.”

He provides no evidence for this but his clownish “magical thinking”. Care to provide the CBO link for this claim X-man?

“Republicans paid a stiff political price for swallowing doubts about Nixon and elevating him to the presidency. There was enough evidence for them to be deeply concerned about how he would perform in office. There is ample evidence for Democrats to worry about both Hillary’s electability in a general election and — should she win despite everything — what her return to the White House could mean for their party and the country.

Royal,

We agree on the facts. A red letter day.

However, I think that we disagree on the wisdom of a balanced budget amendment.

There is a time for deficits (recession, infrastructure requirements, war, etc.) and a time for a balanced budget or limited deficits. It is a question of economics and national needs.

In my opinion, the most important question to be asked about deficits is whether the debt investment will provide an adequate return to justify the debt. In times when deficit spending is needed, e.g., severe recession, we would be wise to spend less time arguing over the deficits per se and more time arguing over what the money is funding. Renewal and improvements of our infrastructure would pay off far in excess of debt expenditure. Does anyone regret the TVA investment during the Great Depression? The interstate highway system of the 50s?

Rich, sample balanced budget amendments I have seen allow for unusual and extreme circumstances.

Surely you will agree that a majority of politicians today will always agree that budget busting spending is necessary even if it adds to our national debt. I offer as evidence the amount of pork in our national budget by both parties and the duplication of agencies within our national government. I offer our tax code which is full of special treatment of some at the expense of others.

Royal,

Let’s agree that there is enough pork in each year’s budget to fund a small country. Let’s also agree that the government could be vastly streamlined without a significant loss of effectiveness. Let’s further agree that the regulatory and tax codes can be simplified, modernized and reduced dramatically.

So, why don’t we cut out all that pork? Why don’t we reform the bureaucracy? Why don’t we simplify the tax code? Why don’t we make our life easier?

The answer is special interest money as you are aware. If you know a way to get rid of their poisonous influence, let us know. Otherwise let’s enjoy our intellectual parrying and hope to make a difference at the margins.

Shameless, nonchalant lying has infected the GOP field.

“Hillary Clinton is a truth-teller.”

Geez Warren, you have really gone off the deep end with Phx8 on this one.

“Sorry kctim, but your partisanship is showing.”

Really?
I am quoting what she actually said.
vs
You are dismissing her words and/or providing what you think it means.

I am saying neither Clinton or Carson should be the nominee.
vs
You dismissing facts in order to label Clinton as some kind of ‘truth teller.’

Yeah, it’s MY partisanship that is showing.

Rather than rehash the facts yet again, I will concede and say that we will just have to agree to disagree on this one.

Tough time to be a conservative. Everyone is a liar. Conspiracy theories abound. Everywhere there is fraud, fixed numbers, and cooked books. Pollsters, economists, Egyptologists, scientists, statisticians, the media, liberal progressives- they are all in it together.

Well, pessimism is its own reward.

And don’t forget the fictitious “war on christmas”. After thanksgiving this “war” nonsense should start heating up again, fueled by the fake news channel. Starbucks is already in the thick of it by not offering “baby jesus coffee” but instead just having cups in holiday colors, outrageous! The outrage will be total this year, again, as the made up indignation over the celebration of the holiday season is decried as “godless”. Oh, and Happy Holidays.

Really? I am quoting what she actually said. vs You are dismissing her words and/or providing what you think it means.

You keep trotting out what you think she said rather than what she actually said. The truth is that:

—Clinton never denied having work related emails on the Chappaqua server

—Clinton never claimed that the materials she sent or received could not have been retroactively classified.

Yet, your comments repeatedly assume otherwise. This is your partisanship. Too bad your rose colored glasses prevent you from seeing it.

I am saying neither Clinton or Carson should be the nominee. vs You dismissing facts in order to label Clinton as some kind of ‘truth teller.’

I agree with you. Neither Clinton nor Carson are fit to be President. I confess that my labeling of Clinton as a “truth-teller” is intentionally provocative. Personally, I am sick and tired of the conservative chorus, “Clinton is a liar” that is used to dismiss everything she says out of hand. This isn’t something that you have done, but it is what other WatchBloggers have done.

“Non-answer from j2 who seems to be in debt denial.”
The words Joseph N Welch spoke to Sen. McCarthy “At long last sir, have you no sense of decency” Came to mind when I read this Royal.

You suggest I am the one in denial! Seems to me I answered your foolish question and the associated implications just fine. I would suggest it is you in denial. I would suggest it is due to the fact that despite almost 40 years of braying about a balanced budget your team has been largely responsible for the 18 trillion in debt we now have.

IMHO you can’t have it both ways, you can’t cut taxes, go to war and pay down the debt. I would also venture that is the intent from the conservatives in Congress and the wealthy owners of said conservatives. Starve the beast has resulted in this debt Royal. Going to war and cutting taxes has resulted in this debt Royal. Unfunded mandates have resulted in this debt Royal. A bloated standing military many times the size of what is required for the defense of the country has resulted in this debt Royal.

So when you ask me “Perhaps one or two of my liberal friends can tell us why they wish to saddle their children and grandchildren with ever more crushing national debt that will deny their offspring a decent life” I can only wonder what on earth are you thinking. Are you intentionally lying to save your political ideology? Or are you ignorant to the facts.

Well here is the link to the 2003 Bush tax cuts votes, which if you will remember was after our invasion and subsequent occupation and nation building efforts in Iraq.
http://clerk.house.gov/evs/2003/roll182.xml

So we invaded Iraq in March of 2003 and cut taxes in May of 2003. Repubs and conservatives were united in their effort to saddle our children and grandchildren with ever more crushing national debt that will deny their offspring a decent life. So keep voting repub, back the conservatives if you want this debt saddle you speak of on your children’s children’s children.

Good news for America’s working class.

“President Barack Obama’s plan to protect from deportation an estimated 5 million people living in the United States illegally has suffered another setback in court.

In a 2-1 decision, the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans upheld a Texas-based judge’s injunction blocking the Obama administration’s immigration initiative.”

Carson didn’t make up the story about that Psychology Exam. Instead, he plagiarized the Yale Record, a parody newspaper. Nonetheless, it still doesn’t match the account in Gifted Hands.
