That's Real Cute, Governor Otter

One step forward and 5 steps back. While some argue that our country is just becoming “desensitized” or just “tolerating” same-sex marriage, Idaho’s Governor Butch Otter is trying to turn back time and reverse the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to legalize same-sex marriage just four months ago.

Why the change of heart for Otter? To protect the children of course! In a petition filed on Tuesday by Otter reads, "[Idaho's] view of marriage is biologically based and primarily child-centered...And it holds that the principal (though not exclusive) purpose of marriage is unite a child to his or her biological mother and father whenever possible, and when not possible, to a mother and father." This ought to have millions of SINGLE parents cringing. How dare they have a child with only ONE parent and not "united with a mother AND father."

It's just unbelievable that we're still having this conversation. There are a lot of things (good and bad) that our generation has changed that our grandparents and great-grandparents' generations may not have ever approved or imagined.

Maybe I am just desensitized to the idea of same-sex marriage, but I think I just like people to be happy. Why would we be preventing a loving couple from marrying and adopting a child who needs parents (not just a "mother and father") and a loving home? To me, this appears to be exactly what Governor Otter is trying to prevent.

When we're slightly on our way to progress, we somehow take a giant leap back in time. It will inevitably happen eventually so I don't understand why we continue to waste our time battling. Perhaps my "big picture" is just too big.

What makes you think gay marriage is a step forward? Gay marriage is a biological dead end.

The concept of marriage is to facilitate the procreation of the species. Gay marriage doesn’t do that.

Also, one must consider the repercussions of a gay couple’s attempt to extend their lifestyle onto a hetero-sexual pubescent child in their care.

Perhaps Governor Otter is protect the sanctity of the institution as it was intended and not trying to pander to a whiny section of society that forces others to accept them.

Uh no, the concept of marriage was one of property, not procreation. Procreation was going on long before the concept of marriage reared its head.

According to you I shouldn’t be married to my wife since we are unable to procreate. We’re in a ‘biological dead end’, unworthy of the institution of marriage, right?

And what about the repurcussions of rearing a gay child in a heterosexual marriage? Or do you just not care about their plight because you don’t see ‘them’ as real people?
