Drug Testing Welfare Recipients is Dying
The public outcry is settling of people advocating that they’re tired of working their tails off to pay taxes for someone to sit on their couch, smoke a crack pipe, and collect welfare. You know all the social media posts! Nearly half of the states are pushing to pass a bill in consideration of this idea, which is actually depressing because of the violation of the Fourth Amendment.
It's easy to see why people feel this way, especially with the debt this country is in, and on the surface it seems ridiculous to "waste" money on anything at this point. In a way, it makes sense to make cuts where some of the government spending could be saved by screening welfare recipients, and nor should the government be supporting someone's drug habit.
However, neither of these arguments is holding up in legislation primarily because all individuals should be "secure in their persons, houses, papers and effects against unreasonable searches and seizures." Local, state, and government are making an effort to make spending cuts where possible, but after crunching the numbers it turns out it could cost more to drug test welfare recipients. It would cost tens of thousands of dollars to eliminate on welfare recipient on drugs. Florida was the pioneer of this new bill and it cost them.
While drug addicts and addiction are a hard circumstance for people to understand, the best approach to resolving the issue is getting them treatment, rather than cutting them off from support. The costs of drugs and addicts on the street are excessive in law enforcement, detainment, and health care, but these resources are far more effective than drug testing millions of people.
Even a Republican state like Texas, supports the crack down on drug crime because the outcome of a drug user getting help and treatment is more successful. Part of that treatment includes food, stable housing and job training provided by the government. The consequence of cutting off a drug user from welfare could actually increase crimes, because you cut someone off and what are they going to do? First they're going to get high because they don't know how to deal with problems. They're not going to say, "Yeah, you're right. I need to quit doing drugs." That's just so naïve to believe.
Drug testing may seem like an obvious and easy fix to the problem, but in the big scheme of things, it's micromanagement and a Band-Aid fix on a gaping wound. The drug problem itself is far more complex than simple solution like this. Maybe if the drug problem is ever controlled and on a smaller scale, administering drug tests may make a difference, but for now the issue needs to be scaled down.

Cutting their welfare is not the final solutions, the government should make more micromanagement and give them needed help, something that can be done to help them from not addicting to drugs.
I think we should also pay attention to why they are addicted to drugs? and make the causes solved, and this is also a way to solve the essential problem.

Problem is, since you aquiesed and by your ignorance and silence signed up for a social security # and became a u.s. “Citizen” you actually have those rights waived.
Look at other so-called “laws” in this country and tell me the 4th amendment still applies to you.

Now my argument for the people to not be drug-tested.
Your on welfare and maybe you were one of the people who actually paid your dues to obtain it.
you get a check each month if you are on it. You are on a gov’t program.
Say, you made a mistake in your life and your boyfriend forced you to do heroine and years later, you are addicted to it.
You were caught by the F’ing cops in the act of doing heroine.
Well, you clean your act up and decide to get a associates degree and you have a sparkling 4.0 gpa.
When you go to get a job that seems like you are a shoe-in for the position the employer runs one of those “Background checks” guess what decides to come up. Yes, sure enough 5 years ago you got caught doing heroine.
Who the hell wants somebody who was once addicted to Heroine?
Noody so now you have a college education and a big bill to pay for it and nobody will hire you So you go on Welfare.
Your depressed and bored with nothing to do and you go back into your addiction.
Now, the gov’t says you can’t be addicted to that crap and get free $$ and then they take it away.
And leave you with no $$, no obtainable job and no where to live.
For the argument to be drug tested.
The above small crappy story I wrote is a small percentage of what actually happens.
It’s a worst-case scenario.
And it’s very unfair to that person.
The above story could happen to anybody in any finacial class.
But, I am a hard-working american who like many pay into this welfare program and may never ever need to use it.
The harder I work the more $$ i amke the more I pay in (total $$ not percentage but most of the time more percentage as well) to a program more than likely I will never use.
Since I pay more $$ into a program I will more-than-likely never use why should I have to pay it at all?
So somebody who got addicted to heroine can live. This is why I pay more money to the goven’t so heroine addicts can sit at home while I work 60 hours a week and I barely see my kids and family and work christmas to pay for them to sit on there ass and do heroine all freaking day!
Why should I get penalized for working my ass off to make good money so my kids can live a good life and the gov’t takes 35% of it away because I work overtime?
and a percentage of that goes to welfare?
At the very least the gov’t should drug test the people who get my free $$ I work my ass of for so I can be sure they aren’t just wasting there lies away on a free ride.
I honestly don’t care if it costs more $$ I am willing to pay an extra 1-5% on top of that so I know that some stupid ass person isn’t just going to live on welfare and be addicted to drugs all there lives with a free ride.
As for the person who commented above.
A person who is addicted can only fix that addiction if they truly want to.
Making a person who is addicted who doesn’t want to get over it is like showing somebody the stream you can show them the water but you can’t make them drink it.
Why would I want my $$ going to that?
People who are getting over addiction or who want to that.
Who have no $$ should be given addiction recovery.
In return the person will have to do a tone community service that would pay for the addiction recovery service.
That person should have to be tested every so often depending on the drug addicted to how long it stays in there system.
If it stays in there system for 24 hours be tested every two days and they should have to pay for it through community service or whatever.
after they have never tested positive after a year and they have paid there $$ for the addiction recovery they should have another year of followup random drug tests and if they are clean after that other year of random drugtests we should conceal there drug record. That way if they have just a drug record holding them back they could look just like an average joe trying to get a job and get there life back on track.
