Finally: the RNC is Pro-Choice!
Finally! After years of noise, faux rallies and grandstanding, the “Pro-life”Republican Party is Pro-Choice! (link)
It was reported that the RNC’s very own health care plan supplied to party workers allowed for and subsidized elective abortions for those covered in their plan. Talk about a dirty little secret.
In some bizarre turnaround, Michael Steele, the head of the ‘Pro-Life’ Party, the RNC, announced he was stopping the current policy of providing payments for elective abortions effective immediately. Steele told, Cigna, the RNC’s current insurance provider to cancel the benefit that allows elective abortions.
Funny thing is: this policy has been in effect since 1991.
Since 1991 the RNC provided health care benefits that allowed those covered under the RNC’s plan to undergo elective abortions. In fact, those very same Republicans advocated bastardizing the Constitution by proposing, in 2000, a ban on abortion with a Constitutional amendment. And again, in 2004, when the legislative and executive was under solid Republican control, the Republicans advocated adding a ‘Human Life Amendment’ (link).
So while a nationwide group of registered Republicans donated hard-earned cash to the RNC, the RNC used that money to fund, among other things, this health care plan with ‘abortion coverage’. With Republicans blathering on about the sanctity of life, their very own RNC allowed their wives and daughters to partake in their constitutionally supported, full and lawful access to elective abortions.
To make matters worse, the RNC, according to Cigna, could have opted out of ‘abortion coverage’ at any time but chose not to. See… the RNC is Pro-Choice!
It’s not surprising that many in their own party have felt disenfranchised by the mindless meandering of the Republican Party. Recently, Dede Scozzafava, the moderate Republican that dropped out of the race for NY Representative said that the Republican Party was not based on any ‘any sort of substance’. I supposed Ms. Scozzafava would know; she took the full brunt of religious-right faction that controls the current Republican Party.
I should note that I support the RNC’s decision to provide the best possible health care policy to its people. I believe that every woman should have the best possible health care options at their side and that when the RNC put aside ideology and rhetoric for the good of their hard-working workers; it was a good thing.
But when the RNC talks out of both sides of their mouth, while they take the money from their donors for an ideology that they, in practice, don’t adhere to; I find that level of hypocrisy reprehensible.
I do wonder however, how Fox News would have reported about this mammoth dose of hypocrisy if the story was about the Democrats.

john,
With alacrity, loudly and with pictures of long past huge crowds of people chanting, “Democrats are killers”.
You really didn’t expect Fox ‘NEWS’ to actually present the ‘NEWS’ did you?
yeah, would love to see the angry white ppl picketing rnc. man, that would be an early Christmas present.
Posted by: bluebuss at November 23, 2009 4:49 PMHate to burst your bubbles but Fox reported this some weeks past.
Posted by: KAP at November 23, 2009 5:27 PMYou see I watch Fox news from time to time. The whole thing was no big deal to them.
Posted by: KAP at November 23, 2009 5:50 PMSorry Dude but this stuff was old news by the time this blog appeared. It took 2 weeks before liberals found out about this. I guess current events isn’t your strong point. If some of you liberals watched Fox once in awhile instead of the Ed show you would see that Fox hammers Republicans as well as Democrats.
Posted by: KAP at November 24, 2009 8:04 PMI see you have responded to empty air, as my post has vaporized. I reitterate…if Fox presented it at all, by your own words above, they made no big deal of it. That would be the Fox way for a report on the right…had the report been about the left, Beck’s crying jag would have occurred, and the news would have been headed by “Some are shedding tears over this horrendous flub by those nasty LIBERALS”.
Posted by: Marysdude at November 25, 2009 12:08 AMDude
Your raving was there when I put my answer to you. Like I said this is old news. So there are pro choice Reps just like there are pro life Dems. BIG DEAL.
KAP,
Wow! The smoke gets thicker and thicker…it’s never been about the subject matter, it’s always been about the Fox reporting of it. Although you SAY it’s no big deal, had it been the other foot shod, it WOULD have been a big deal to FOX. That’s the point.
Here again is john’s question:
>I do wonder however, how Fox News would have reported about this mammoth dose of hypocrisy if the story was about the Democrats.

Like I said Fox hammers Republicans and Democrats alike DUDE. So like I said this was no BIG DEAL. Right now Fox is Hammering Democrats because of the economy and health care reform. Abortion clauses in health care coverage no matter if you are democrat or republican is no BIG DEAL TO THEM. If it was they would have hammered the RNC.
Posted by: KAP at November 25, 2009 5:05 PMThey use a feather-lite peen on the right and a sixteen pound sledge on the left, and that keeps it ‘fair and balanced’. Fox gets upset at Republicans if one of them steps out of line and says a negative about Limbaugh, Beck, Hannity et al. THEN you see the pig squeal…er…fox yip.
Posted by: Marysdude at November 25, 2009 7:25 PMLimbaugh, Beck and Hannity pretty good comedy team. Right now the left needs a sixteen pound sledge if the right gets out of line they need it to. You see Dude I’m an equal opportunity basher and right now both parties need the sixteen pound sledge over their heads, all because I watch Fox from time to time don’t mean I don’t watch the other news channels some of them could use a little bit of the sledge. Getting back to the old news, it seems a bit strange that it took two weeks before someone on the left commented about the RNC and the abortion issue.
