Fighting Evil

Republicans, and especially President Bush, see their role in the world as good people fighting evildoers. Within the U.S., the evildoers are those indulging in sexual deviation - pre-marriage sex, homosexuality, pedophilia and other sexual variants. Outside America, the evildoers are dictators - not all of them, only those unfriendly to the U.S. The Republican approach for fighting evil is talk to American evildoers and silence with foreign evildoers. Neither approach seems to be working.

One of the biggest warriors against homosexuality is Dr. James Dobson, founder and chairman of Focus on the Family. Here is a little tidbit about him:

According to Dobson’s 2004 book Marriage Under Fire, the homosexual agenda aims to “implement a master plan that has as its centerpiece the utter destruction of the family.” What’s in this “master plan”? Dobson says the evil scheme includes “overturning laws prohibiting pedophilia [and] indoctrination of children and future generations through public education,” among other things.

A real fighter of evil.

What does Dr. Dobson say about Foleygate, which deals with the "homosexual agenda"?

As it turns out, Mr. Foley has had illicit sex with no one that we know of, and the whole thing turned out to be what some people are now saying was a -- sort of a joke by the boy and some of the other pages.

What Dobson called one of the biggest sins he now calls a joke. He knows how to talk and he knows how to change his talk. Action? Oh, my gosh, he can't do that. Foley and all the other Congressmen involved are Republicans. Republicans do no wrong. They fight evil. Must stick to the storyline.

Foleygate is a petty story, insignificant when considered against the actions of Republicans abroad. First, Bush set the stage by pronouncing Iraq, Iran and North Korea as an "axis of evil."

He was not going to talk to these evil regimes. He was going to fight them, starting with Iraq, the weakest of the 3 evil states. No need to mention results; Iraq is a failed state.

As soon as he got into office, Bush attacked Bill Clinton for being too soft on North Korea. According to Bush, you don't talk, you don't negotiate, you don't use diplomacy with an evildoer like Kim Jong II. If there must be talk, let the Chinese do it. This is the same Bush that would not ask "permission" from anyone to attack Iraq. So the North Koreans have just tested a nuclear bomb. That evildoer is getting his way.

The third evildoer in the "axis of evil" is Ahmadinejad of Iran. He sees the handwriting on the wall and is doing what North Korea did: he's developing a nuclear bomb. Here again, Bush does not deign to talk to an evil guy like Ahmadinejad.

Bush does not believe in talk. He believes only in action. Action in this case means war. With Bush at the helm there will always be war against evil.

Democrats must always fight for talks, tete-a-tetes, dialogues, discussions, summits, conferences, diplomatic meetings. Maybe more reasonable Republicans, such as James Baker, who is chairing a commission about what to do about Iraq, will introduce more diplomacy into our foreign affairs.

With regard to both Americans and other nations, Republicans are wrong. The world is not divided into good and evil people and good and evil nations. Democrats believe that people and nations are mixtures of good and evil. Free speech at home and diplomacy abroad are the way to improve American society and to increase comity among nations of the world.

As an independent I am horribly confused by the Democrats position. Are they for us defending ourselves? Or do they want us to sit and talk with North Korea and Iran? Or maybe even Alqaida? Because I’ve always been taught it’s useless to try and work things out with a bully. Wouldn’t that be what they are? Aren’t you supposed to stand up to them and show them you aren’t afraid? Someone please clear this up for me.

Trying to save every body for christ that is, well the kind Pat Roberson, Jerry Fallwell, or Dobson worship. If every body who is not christian is an evildoer or at least needs to be convert than the other three fourths of the world better watch out they might be next. I would want to build a fifteen hundred feet wall around a the place just to keep these do-gofers out of mexico. I’m so sick of the Bush president era and all the first amendment violtions I’m hopeing a spaceship shows up to take me away. One thing I would like to personal ask the president who the hell are you to decide what is a and is not a valied religtion(wicca, paganism, hinduism) and for that matter what gives you the right to give favors to a special interest group and ignore the other two thirds of america. The only good people involded in this dark era are the ones who repsect their fellow man for who he is and let him live his live. The evildoers are the ones going around demanding the right to be intorlant of other cultures and trying to remodel our system of law to fit their own personal way of thinking. If the Judges don’t give us our way we simple go around them or take away their power. A fourth of congress should be in jail for the things the Republics have done the last three years. Pasing a bill to allow torcher is unbeliveable not metchion outragous and total unconsititional. The fact that people buy into the exuses of the Republic party is evidence that people are stupid. well stupid as far as that—People will beleive any lie if they are afeared it might be true or if they want it to be true, forget logic or common sense.

We know for a fact that N. Korea starves their people while spending huge sums on the military. We know they don’t elect their officials and we know they have concentration camps for those who disagree with Crazy Kim. No question that Sadaam gassed his own people, had rape rooms, and used all sorts of similar methods to keep his subjects in line. And yet you continue to infer that we are not morally better than these countries. That there is no firm right and wrong. That we are out of line in calling them evil. Your post tries to compare these evil countries with James Dobson???? I’m waiting to hear you say that if we would only disarm our country N. Korea and Iran would do likewise.

“Talk-Talk-Talk…before you know it, a Nuclear weapon has just hit California. Why appease and talk, let these countries have their weapons, if they use them , decimate them off the face of the earth, that simple folks!”

If you want to see the Playground Bully, look in the mirror. It’s the US. We’ve for gone all of our rationale and diplomatic resources… we’ve degraded our army fighting our own demons… and busted our back accounts. We’re searching the globe to pick fights with people who won’t do it our way. Ever notice that both Iran and N Korea started up their nuclear programs immediately on Bush’s “Axis of Evil” statements? We picked a fight with them, and now we’re pissed because they’ve been arming themselves.

At my high school, there were some people (the jocks) who blustered about how they could kick anyone’s ass… and they were tested regularly. Then there were the scrawny little red necks that most people knew to avoid completely. Pick and fight and they will kick your ass, and they didn’t fight “fair.” They were nasty and viscous… And they didn’t forget. Once the fight started, it went on … and you would spend the rest of your time in high school looking over you shoulder and hoping they didn’t know where you lived.

We’ve picked fights with the crazy people - and that really is a very bad idea.

I don’t know of anyone who is saying that those who are not Christians are evil. Perhaps you can show me a quote of who is saying that. If you do manage to find such a quote, then I’ll be the first to condemn the author of the quote.

It’s important to understand what Christianity is, and also to recognize that your comments fit more into radical Islam than to Christianity. To be Christian, by my definition, is to have accepted Jesus Christ into your life as your personal savior. I believe that is the mechanism by which people go to heaven, and I believe its the only mechanism by which people go to heaven.

I don’t believe that all others are evil. If you consider heaven to be asort of club, with Jesus as the membership director, then you can recognize that he can get you in. But the club has a rule—-unless Jesus vouches for you, you don’t get in…and Jesus won’t vouch for you unless you ask him to.

There is a big difference between being evil and not going to heaven. I hope I illustrated that for you above.

Secondly, I think Bush considers all religions valid, but not necessarily correct. The Islamic religion can consider Christianity to be valid, but they certainly do not consider it correct. No one would believe in a religion that they felt was INcorrect; therefore we all have an inherent bias to our own particular belief system.

That alone does not make our particular belief system correct. I think there is a TRUTH out there—we humans keep trying to understand what it is. We have wildly different ideas about what it is, but our opinions don’t change the truth—-they just mirror our thoughts on what it is.

Paul:

Based on your past, I won’t expect a response from you, but I’ll post this anyway. The only good thing I can say about Mark Foley is that he resigned quickly. Whether he did anything illegal or not is in question, but he certainly did things that were immoral and unethical for a person in his position. You’ll note that Dobson’s first words about Foley were that ” We condemn the Foley affair categorically…”. No equivocation there.

Sometimes these comedic pieces are so true…..enjoy

Subject: Some thoughts before the election…

To be a Republican, you need to believe that:

1. Jesus loves you, and shares your hatred of homosexuals and Hillary Clinton.

2. Saddam was a good guy when Reagan armed him, a bad guy when Bush’s daddy made war on him, a good guy when Cheney did business with him, and a bad guy when Bush needed a “we can’t find Bin Laden” diversion.

3. Trade with Cuba is wrong because the country is Communist, but trade with China and Vietnam is vital to a spirit of international harmony.

4. The United States should get out of the United Nations, and our highest national priority is enforcing U.N. resolutions against Iraq.

5. A woman can’t be trusted with decisions about her own body, but multi-national drug corporations can make decisions affecting all mankind without regulation.

6. The best way to improve military morale is to praise the troops in speeches, while slashing veterans’ benefits and combat pay.

7. If condoms are kept out of schools, adolescents won’t have sex.

8. A good way to fight terrorism is to belittle our long-time allies, then demand their cooperation and money.

9. Providing health care to all Iraqis is sound policy, but providing health care to all Americans is socialism. HMO’s and insurance companies have the best interests of the public at heart.

10. Global warming and tobacco’s link to cancer are junk science, but creationism should be taught in schools.

11. A president lying about an extramarital affair is a impeachable offense, but a president lying to enlist support for a war in which thousands die is solid defense policy.

12. Government should limit itself to the powers named in the Constitution, which include banning gay marriages and censoring the Internet.

13. The public has a right to know about Hillary’s cattle trades, but George Bush’s driving record is none of our business.

14. Being a drug addict is a moral failing and a crime, unless you’re a conservative radio host. Then it’s an illness and you need our prayers for your recovery.

15. Supporting “Executive Privilege” for every Republican ever born, who will be born or who might be born (in perpetuity.)

16. What Bill Clinton did in the 1960’s is of vital national interest, but what Bush did in the ‘80’s is irrelevant.

17. Support for hunters who shoot their friends and blame them for wearing orange vests similar to those worn by the quail.

If you don’t send it to at least 10 other people, we’re likely to be stuck with more Republicans in ‘06 and ‘08.

Friends don’t let friends vote Republican.

WAS THE GOAL: total chaos? sectarian violence? homelessness and displacement? then, we have mission accomplished.

hell no there is no “easy button”, the bush administration has made sure of that. we once could call on people around this world who respected us. who would support us. where did that go? it went the day we (the u.s.) went to the security council and stated “there are weapons of mass destruction in iraq”.

so, i guess congratulations is in order for the republicans, and their administration. heck of a job.

1. Jesus loves everyone, including homosexuals and the Clintons..he just hates their sins (“Love the sinner, hate the sin”)
2. Saddam fought Iran (the first terrorist state), becoming our ally, Saddam gased hundreds of thousands and invaded a sovereign country, becoming our enemy, and Saddam supported terrorists and terrorism, making him a target in the war on terror.
3. Cuba is right in our backyard and China/Vietnam are not, among other critical differnces. You don’t treat different situations the same.
4. Whoever said the US needs out of the UN?? We work w/in it to accomplish meaningful progress and when the UN refuses to enforce its own law, we do whats in our best interests.
5. Assuming you are referring to abortion, the issue concerns more than just the woman’s body; there is an unborn human child involved as well. And ever heard of the FDA??
6. Yes, praising the troops helps morale and benefits/pay have gone up substantially since the war began..check your facts.
7. If people would stop looking to condoms and start looking to parents, kids would have less sex.
8. You have it backwards. Its demand their cooperation and support because they are our allies, and disagree, even vehemently, when they refuse to help, as is our right.
9. Government-only funded health care is by definition a form of socialism, whether its wrong or right.
10. God forbid, no pun intended, we encourage children to consider other theories and challenge existing ones.
11. How can you lie about something, i.e. WMDS, when you have sources from the U.S., Britain, France, Germany, and yes, even the UN, telling you there is a reasonable and legitimate basis for your conclusion, i.e. Saddam has WMDS.
12. American History 101…making a Consitutional amendment, i.e. defining marriage as a union b/t a man and a woman, makes the amendment part of the Constitution
13. I’ve never heard of Hilary’s “cattle trade” issue because the liberally biased media only reports on things like W’s decades old drunk driving incident.
14. Why can’t drug use be all of the above, immoral, illegal, and an illness? Whoever really said anything different?
15. Executive privilege is in the Consitution, also taught in American History 101, and has been enjoyed by every president, including Clinton when he used it to refuse turning over documents to Congress and the courts during his sex scandal.
16. What seems more reprehensible to you? Joining the national guard and have a possible, albeit low risk of actually getting drafted or fleeing to Canada to avoid the draft?
17. I’ve never seen clothes on quail, or, at least, a wild one. What are you talking about?

Sandra’s tirade is just another example why the Dems have no credibility w/ the American public or the moderates in their own party. Extremists like Sandra who either blissfully ignore the facts or affirmatively alter them to fit their agenda are dangerous to our country. They veil their lies and subversiveness under the guise of freedom of speech, erroneously asserting that the first amendment makes their slanderous speech legitimate or true and not subject to challenge. Its reprehensible.

Opposing a war, and refusing to fight in it is more honorable than supporting it, and using connections to make sure you never fight in it.
Dont forget “defferment dick” when you talk about bushco.

“Saddam gased hundreds of thousands and invaded a sovereign country, becoming our enemy”

Uh, your chronology is a bit off. He was still our ally long after the gassing incident (now, where did he get that gas????) He didn’t become our enemy till he threatened our oil. See where our priorities lie now?

I don’t recall reading that one must accept Jesus into their life as their savior or they will go to hell.

It’s right there in the Bible for you to read—I’ve pasted a couple verses below. I’m not saying you have to believe as I do, but you now have the opportunity to read it so that you know why I believe what I do. I consider it the most INclusive thing in the world, since anyone and everyone can join the “club”. They simply have to choose to want to join the club.

Some will choose not to, and others won’t make a conscious choice either way. Still others will choose to believe there are many ways to Heaven. It’s possible that there are, though I don’t hold to that belief. But I fully recognize that my knowledge of the universe and the eternity of the next life is limited. Its what I choose to believe though.

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son,[a] that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.”

Sandra,

In the spirit of equal access and fun, I’ve dusted off an old post of mine of which I’m rather proud. Its a bit longer than yours, but feel good, it should give you a lot to write about in return.

They believe that children should learn in Kindergarten how to use a condom but don’t mind so much if they can’t read when they “graduate” from high school.

They say they want to end poverty but continue to support a welfare system that has exacerbated poverty, fueled crime, gutted America’s inner cities, and left a legacy of failure and broken lives with nothing but a bill to show for it.

They say they support parents but don’t think you have a right to know if your 14 year old daughter (who probably wasn’t paying attention in condom class) is pregnant and wants an abortion.

They understand abstinence when it comes to cigarettes and alcohol (not so much with weed) but don’t think it applies to pre-marital sex.

They defend, to the point of treasonously revealing intelligence gathering operations, the right to privacy, which is written nowhere in the Constitution, but think “the right of the people to keep and bear arms” is negotiable.

They claim to be the voice of the people, then ramrod their agenda through the court system, conveniently avoiding the legislature, the real voice of the people.

They say they support the troops, then base their political fortunes on the troops failing.

They’re pro-choice unless the choice you’re making is what school to send your child to.

They abhor when the President or law enforcement breaks the law in their eyes, yet have no problem with 12 million people being in this country illegally.

They say you shouldn’t put your fortune in an offshore account and should pay your share if you’re wealthy unless your last name is Kennedy or Kerry.

They want the rich taxed to death but can’t remember the last time a poor person gave them a job.

They support increasing the Army by 2 divisions, about a 4th of what they cut when Clinton was in office.

They have no problem with an entertainment industry that glorifies violence, drug abuse, misogyny, and every other form of deviant behavior but think its a faux pax to say the name of Jesus in public (unless its the name of one of the illegals who they think should have social services without paying taxes).

They say they believe in the freedom of speech, but only if its PC.

They say they are for tolerance but won’t tolerate those who don’t go lockstep with their radical socialist agenda.

They say it takes a village to raise a child while turning the village into a cesspool of vice and moral corruption you want to protect your kids from, not to interact with.

They don’t think rape should be a capital crime but have no problem with executing a child whose only crime was to be conceived.

They state that they are for the mentally and physically handicapped, then support abortions for parents who spot these conditions in their preborn children. After all, these children won’t have a proper “quality of life” and will “be a burden.”

They say they represent women’s rights, then support abortion based on sex selection, which almost always ends in the abortion of an unborn girl.

They say they are for energy independence but don’t offer any alternatives to Bush’s comprehensive energy plan, which they then deadlock in the Senate. They then criticize the President for the nation’s lack of an energy plan.

They criticize Bush for not taking out bin Laden in the 9 months he had in office prior to 9/11 but don’t say a thing about the 8 years Clinton had to do the same.

They think the fate of the United States is best protected in the United Nations in the hands of “countries” with less of an economy than Pittsburgh and an “army” that couldn’t take on the NYPD.

They abhor the national debt but forget that their program of Social Security will bankrupt the nation.

They cry foul over disenfranchisement for “hanging” and “dimpled” chads in Florida, then try to get military overseas votes nullified because they had the wrong postmark.

They love to mock Columbus but glorify Che Guevera.

They think white people should be grateful to be told that they are the root of all evil.

They’re hearts bleed for those who earn less than the poverty level unless they’re privates in the Army.

They say they abhor racial discrimination, then order reverse discrimination by government mandate.

They support the freedom of religious expression as long as the religion you choose to express isn’t Christianity.

They seem to believe that well paid professional liars (hollywood celebrities) speaking to you from their air-conditioned 25,000 square foot homes after a trip back from Bermuda on a privae jet are the best people to lecture you about how you use entirely to much resources keeping your house air-conditioned.

They cannot comprehend how crime rates go down the more people you put in jail.

They are against stereotypes, unless you’re talking about a slack-jawed, beer swilling, Bible-thumping, intolerant, bigoted, sexist, homophobe, redneck NASCAR fan. Or a jack-booted, neo-Nazi, gun-nut, anti-government, survivalist hunter.

They think burning your nation’s flag is the penultimate act of patriotism.

They say they are against the frivolous use of military force yet have deployed the military more in the 8 years of Clinton’s presidency than in the 40 years preceding it.

They endorse the blatant coffin riding of an attention mongering mourning-profiteer like Cindy Sheehan.

They think the spoilt progeny of overindulgent white yuppie parents who shops at the gap, drives an escalade, and drinks triple mocha lattes is in an excellent position to denounce capitalism.

They think that achieving wealth, part of the American dream, should be punished with taxes.

They think a paper-pushing beurocrat in D.C. is a far better authority on how to spend 30% + of my income than I am.

They put a convicted (later pardoned by Carter) draft dodger in the White House while veterans were homeless.

They think responibilities have no rights if you’re a man with a child, pre-born or born.

I’ve personally witnessed 3 compare the Easter 2001 race riots in Cincinnati with the Salt March by Ghandi.

They think the best way to protest globalization is to burn down a locally owned McDonald’s.

Dahrell(?) Hannah thinks that squatter’s rights trump property owner’s rights.

A group sued the Federal government for not putting water points along the border for people trying to illegally enter the country. In other words, they were suing the government for not helping people break the laws it made.

dobson and the republicans don’t want to DO anything about all the perversion, because then, they wouldn’t be able to beat us over the head with it. Then they would actually have to do their job and that would interfere with stuffing money in their pockets.

The dems are the same way. They whine about the unfair situation in the medical community. But if they did anything about it, they they would have to do their job, instead of stuffing the money from the same lobbyist the republicans do.

(sigh)There is one thing I see wrong with all debates here. You all believe that your party is the right party. Well, I belive there is no good party. Politics is politics people, and it will never be just, or right. There will always be a scandal, there will always be an asshole. The best we can do is damage control. I vote for the guys that I think will do some work towards peace, human rights, and the environment. Right now, I think the liberals are doing more towards that than the republicans are. The thing I don’t like about repulicans is, they use technicalities in religion to govern people, while they ignore what religion was getting at: Peace, love, equality, and understanding. But, democrats aren’t exactly saints either. Politics is a dirty game. I don’t think it’s fair to declare one side the good guys, when they’re both pretty bad. It’s not a choice of good guys and bad guys, it’s a choice of: Who will screw up less? Peace
