The Polls that Do Matter

The polling of the American people has never been so insanely intense, or so insanely ridiculous. We’d probably be better off as a nation if they just didn’t exist, though I freely admit I’ve been following them far too closely. Exit polls are a different story.

Unlike those simply aimed at prognostication, exit polls serve a vital function in monitoring the election, and their elimination would be a harbinger of totalitarianism. I hope this is obvious, and I'm confident they are not going away anytime soon, but just in case, let's make sure we never throw the baby out with the bathwater.

I’d like to encourage all true conservatives to vote for anyone other than Bush. From a conservative standpoint, Bush’s presidency has been a disaster. Stand up for your principles! :)

But those who believe Nader stands for their principles than John Kerry.. AP says you should vote for KERRY anyway!! and if you disagree, well lets just hope the dems have managed to keep Nader off of the ballot in your state (especially if its a swing state!).

Christopher, I thought AP was just repeating himself from his post to Stephen at the end of “A Message Back To Bin Laden.”

Malena,
Todd is NOT a liar. He did find the critical message under the red column side. I saw it there too, a couple of days ago. Go look for youself. And please, people, stop calling each other names — it’s against the rules.

First of all, I wasn’t accusing him of lying about where he found the text. I accuse him of misrepresenting himself in the same way that the original writer of the text is misrepresenting himself. Todd is pretending to be a Democrat and pretending to be concerned that people on the Red column are seeing this phony “secret strategy”. The text he cut-n-pasted here is pure scumbag propaganda. It’s a GOP dirty trick, and Todd is perpetuating it.

And yes, I saw that text posted this morning in the Red Column and just yesterday right here in the Blue Column. It’s obviously some sort of organized dirty trick campaign to post this crap all over the internet. It probably just came out yesterday on some right-wing dirty trick web site, which is why it doesn’t show up in Google yet. But it will.

CF- I dont really konw about this Todd character, but I DO think that AP wants conservatives who do not believe in Bush to vote for a 3rd party, but he wants liberals who do not believe in Kerry to vote for Kerry anyway. Basically, its about strategy rather than principle for him, I think. Personally, I think if you believe in Nader- you should vote for Nader. Dont be a sucker of the 2 party system, and dont let anyone bully your voting into “for the lesser of two evils.”

Misha you are right: I wasn’t trying to be anything but partisan - hence the smiley face. I was also making fun of Todd’s post. It would be interesting to check the IP addresses of the people who posted Todd’s message multiple times on this site. I suspect they’d be identical. :)

It’s a real embarrassment that a guy arrested twice, once for DUI, another for theft, with no accomplishments of ANY real distinction (Don’t mention his MBA, at least one of his professors thought he was a dolt, definitely only got in ‘cause of connections); could get elected. It really damages our rep with the rest
of the world. The small town, poorly educated people who allow bush to win should understand that ” Your reputation,”- you can say “..the hell with the euros” etc, but you don’t really adhere to that with your own life, your own neighbors.

Of course, there are wealthy people who vote with selfish rationality as they want lower taxes, free exploitation of the common environment etc, but there not nearly enough of them to put a Bush in.

Alan, it really is amazing how many Republicans will vote against their own stated positions on issues.

Majorities of Bush supporters incorrectly assumed that Bush favors including labor and environmental standards in trade agreements (84%), and the US being part of the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty (69%), the International Criminal Court (66%), the treaty banning land mines (72%), and the Kyoto Treaty on global warming (51%).

Bush supporters also, themselves, favored some of the positions that they attributed to Bush. Majorities of Bush supporters favored including labor and environmental standards in trade agreements (93%), and the US being part of the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty (68%), the International Criminal Court (75%), the treaty banning land mines (66%), and the Kyoto treaty on climate change (54%).

Go figure… Is that perception among Bush supporters a successful deception by the Bush campaign? Is it an unwillingness to accept reality on the part of Bush supporters? Is it ignorance?

Or are many Bush supporters just unable to get over the fact that Kerry is not a Republican: “Bush is the worst president ever, and Kerry believes in many of the things I believe in, but gosh darn it, he’s a Democrat.”
