Fun with FundRace: Celebrity politics
A new website called FundRace.org makes it easy (and fun!) to find out which of your neighbors gave money to Presidential candidate campaigns. Check out some results I found below.
Searching in my New York City zipcode, I found two notable celebrities who donated money to Democratic campaigns:
Eve Ensler
Writer
16th St Productions
Howard Dean $2,000
200 Park Ave S
New York, NY 10003Edward Norton
Actor
Alt NTN Inc
Dennis Kucinich $2,000
200 Park Ave South
New York, NY 10003
Cool, right? For those who aren't cool pop culture junkies, Eve Ensler wrote the Vagina Monologues and Ed Norton is an actor. (Please don't go to try and visit them now that you know where they live.)
You can also search by name, which I did, only to find "The Donald" hedging his bets:
Donald J. TrumpYou didn't think Trump got to be where he is today by favoring a certain political party, did you?
President
The Trump Organization
John Kerry $2,000
725 5th Ave
New York, NY 10022Donald J. Trump
President
The Trump Organization
George W. Bush $2,000
725 5Th Ave
New York, NY 10022
Feel free to add notable results you come across to the comments section.
Posted by Anthony at March 23, 2004 09:13 AMJerry Seinfeld: $2000 to Kerry and $2000 to Wesley Clark. Larry David destroys him though, $50,500 to various progressive groups since 2000.
www.opensecrets.org is actually better for data of this kind.
Posted by: Greg at March 23, 2004 05:55 PMI think its funny that in 2000 and 2004 when you search for Clinton they didnt give anything. Yes i know you dont have to give any money but wouldnt you think that in atleast 2000 they would have given Gore some money.
Posted by: Ed at March 23, 2004 11:16 PMgore did kinda thumb his nose at clinton in 2000 if you recall
Posted by: martin at March 24, 2004 12:50 PMGore really wanted to stand on his own so he did the one thing he should not have done: distance himself from Clinton.
Posted by: Adam at March 25, 2004 10:55 AMkind of like what adam said, gore didn’t let clinton help him campaign.
Posted by: martiniwitz at March 25, 2004 01:22 PMWhiteHouseForSale.org has an up to date list of all of Bush’s Rangers ($200k+) and Pioneers (100k+).
It includes Senators Norm Coleman and Peter Fitzgerald, Rep. Dennis Hastert, ex-EPA chief Christine Todd Whitman, the Vegas Sands and El Dorado casinos, along with the usual suspects, Pfizer, Microsoft, Union Pacific, Baker Botts, lawyers and oil companies.
Posted by: Lee at March 27, 2004 06:29 AMI just dont understand the mind of a democrat. Pro abortion (pro murder basically) If you have novticed most older people are republican because they are more wise and know these things. Democrats are the more trendy, ooo peace man, ooo no thats wrong. Just shut up. Bush is a good Christian man who is trying to free the county of Iraq. Do you not want these people to be free? Do you want them to still be killed grusomly by their terrible leader? whats wrong with you? Think a little ok!
Posted by: Jackie at May 14, 2004 03:40 PMI am gettin pretty sick and tired of these celebrities going on television wearing John Kerry stickers and Kerry shirts, and the same thing for Bush. I would rather not know who they like and who they don’t like. But when I see a celebrity that I enjoy watching, and find out he/she is a Kerry backer, it makes me sick.
Posted by: Greg at June 11, 2004 04:49 PMHey Jackie: old people are Republican because they are OLD and out of date and want things the way they were back in the OLD days (well, except my old grandparents who are grassroot greens!!)
Who cares if Bush is a Christian? God has no part in running this country, and this is coming from a good Catholic girl!
Posted by: Mariella at June 27, 2004 05:39 PMMariella is right! Goodness, Jackie, and other Republicans…get off your high horses! Are you blind? Bush is running this country into the ground. Stop letting religion run your life, and start focusing on how awful our president is. Who cares if he’s christian or if he’s saving Iraq {Because he’s not!}. Pro-abortion, Jackie, is not pro-murder. It’s simply a womens choice. I would think you would agree with that, seeing as how you are a female; I guess you’re not smart enough to recognize that, though. Like Mariella said, God can’t run this country, and something tells me, by letting over 500 {American} soldiers die, we’re not savind Iraq. Go see Fahrenheit 911…or read a book…GET WITH IT! It’s funny how America is labeled a democracy when that’s suppossed to mean equal rights for all. I don’t see equal rights for gays or blacks or minorities-democracy my butt! And it’s all little bushies fault too. If all of you reps. were smart, (which I can see that you aren’t), you’d join the democratic side too!
Posted by: Camryn at July 5, 2004 02:33 PMPoor Jackie!I just read your comments. I am 61 years OLD. Yes OLD. and until the last Presidential election, I voted Republican but I wised up just before I totally downed the Kool-Aid. I put down the Dixie cup, tossed the purple sneakers and decided to use my head for something other than migranes. Suggest you do the same. The Democrats are attempting to keep us civil and humane. Ever see a 19 year old with half his head blown off from an unjust war? I have. I would rather be civil and humane than safe. But that’s just me…..
Posted by: Peggy at July 9, 2004 12:15 AMYOU GO PEGGY! YAY FOR LIBERALS! :) Kerry`Edwards ‘04!
Posted by: Camryn at July 12, 2004 12:15 PMhigh gas prices, stock prices down, unemployment high, our military people being killed in iraq, national debt increasing, outsourcing rising, tax cut went largely to the rich and i am 74 years old do you think i will vote for bush? wake up
Posted by: jim at July 17, 2004 04:09 PMAbortion is pro-murder? What about killing innocent people in Iraq (both our soldiers and Iraqis) to settle a score, take their oil, or whatever Bush’s plans were? If that isn’t pro-murder, I don’t know what is! My father is a 78 year-old World War 2 vet, my father-in-law is a 58 year-old Vietnam vet, and a friend is a 72 year-old Koren vet and they are all behind Kerry!
