Rep. Gephardt endorses Sen. Kerry

Dick Gephardt couldn’t win the Democratic nomination after being decimated in Iowa, but today he announced he thinks John Kerry can win the nomination and the presidency in November.

Gephardt endorses Kerry:

‘“To beat George Bush, we need a leader who can go toe-to-toe with George Bush in these difficult, dangerous times on national security, toe-to-toe,” Gephardt said in a rally with Kerry in Warren.”’

The labor union support would be very beneficial to Gephardt, if they throw all of their support behind Kerry.

In case you are surprised Gephardt chose to support Kerry, Kerry's acceptance of the endorsement should clear things up:

'On Friday, Kerry expressed his respect for Gephardt, saying they had worked together in Congress for 20 years.

"Again and again and again, I've watched him not play politics but talk about people's needs, talk about the urgent pressing priorities of this country, and I am grateful for his being here, the Massachutts senator said."'

John Edwards reacted by discounting the power of endorsements in the presidential race, according to the article.
