Republican Pity Party Fails
Why does Washington have such a short-term memory problem? Do those, hopefully hoarse, GOP senators really think that their 40-hour talkathon wouldn’t be seen for exactly what it was — an incredible waste of time that superceded more important issues. Oh wait, I forgot — this wasn’t like Mr. Smith’s epic filibuster — or Strom Thurmond’s for that matter. Most Republican Senators were at home, asleep — just like the rest of us.
A record of 168-4 is pretty good — far better than the Clinton administration’s successful judicial nomination record. So much for the Republican Pity Party. Now can we get back to the country’s businesss? And we wonder why the majority of Americans don’t bother to vote.

Posted by: Jake of 8bitjoystick.com at November 14, 2003 05:44 PMThere is a silver lining, 9thwave. Arlo Guthrie once said of President Reagan, the more he sleeps, the safer we are. The talkathon on the one hand was a horrible waste of time, but, on the other, it was time not spent passing Patriot Act III or resurrecting the draft or some such.

However, I think it may be getting to the point where the Democrats are waking up and realizing that if they don’t stand up Patriot Act III could be passed.
I just wish Congress was something more like the British Parliment where people are not afraid to critizize one another.
