Busy Weekend in Texas
Not sure what, if any, effect the Texas redistricting will have on next year’s presidential election. But I do know that if there’s any political story that will refuse to die, this one is it. If the Texas judicial system refuses to consider the case, what branch of the government will Tom DeLay misuse? Only time will tell.
And it’s too bad that the medical miracle (well, it appears miraculous to me) that took place in Dallas this weekend should be sullied with the news of the sordid happenings in Austin. But as they say, timing is everything.
Posted by 9thwave at October 12, 2003 11:07 PMOne effect the redistricting is very likely to have on the presidential race, is to turnout out the liberal and independent voters in larger numbers. Out here in the Hill Country between San Antonio and Austin, this has become a big deal, and folks are talking about it.
My republican neighbors believe it is only fair, and the rental agent proprietor down the road wants the whole GOP kit and kaboodle ousted and he swears he will do his part (Republican turned Independent in 2000).
Given that it has cost Texas tax payers many, many millions of dollars and it ain’t over yet, I suspect a fair number of independents (more than 1/3 of registered voters in my county) will make their voice heard at the ballot box as well.
