More Bush Administration "Policy Choices"
The New York Times reports that the White House axed most of a section describing risks from rising global temperatures from an upcoming EPA state of the environment report.
Among the deletions were conclusions about the likely human contribution to warming from a 2001 report on climate by the National Research Council that the White House had commissioned and that President Bush had endorsed in speeches that year. White House officials also deleted a reference to a 1999 study showing that global temperatures had risen sharply in the previous decade compared with the last 1,000 years. In its place, administration officials added a reference to a new study, partly financed by the American Petroleum Institute, questioning that conclusion.
Clearly yet another example of the Bush Administration’s “selective emphasis” on issues.

That is a total crock. There is only one reliable way to take the earth’s tempature, and that is to aim a space based, unfocused infrared detector at the entire globe, run the exposure 24 hours, and do the math.
This is done on a regular basis, and has been for over 20 years now. The data show a slight COOLING trend during that time.
That junk science ‘study’ takes data from ground based stations, mostly near ‘heat islands’ (cities), making such data highly suspect.
The fact is kids, there IS NO warming. If there were, don’t you think there would be a yearly (heck, daily) accounting of the continuing rise, at least in the leftist press? There is no such thing, because only faulty ‘studies’ actually show any recent rise.
The President was wise not to allow basic science to be perverted in this way.
So called “Global Warming” has little to do with the actual increase in the temperatures of the globe. Although that is a fact. Remember in 2002 the ice pack in the Antartica was reported as melting?.
So warming is a fact. But there’s the big picture. Something George Bush misses.
What it really means is that there wil be an increase in the potential for massively larger and more frequent devasting weather conditions like hurricanes, typhoons, 100 year rains and flooding. Global warming will cause an increase in melanoma due to increased ulra violet radiation and the effects of temperature inversion over populated areas may increase respiratory ailments, regional drought, reduced ability to predict weather conditions… Among others Scientific American
Now, that is the potential for worse weather around around the globe that could lead to massive animal and plant death and refugee problems for those still alive and able to seek shelter. But why risk it because of our own greed?
Let’s not leave this kind of legacy for future generations.
Posted by: Rick at June 23, 2003 11:36 PMI suspect you’ll say NASA and Scientific American report on junk science since they are part of the “liberal” press.
Posted by: Rick at June 23, 2003 11:42 PMEven if a warming trend were real, which has yet to be proved one way or another, it still cannot be attributed to mankind. To say otherwise is disingenous by people with an agenda to regulate industry by any means neccessary.
Ice cores, ocean floor cores, etc…. all show wild fluctuations over the past 30,000 years, much more severe than humankind has seen for the last 2-3 thousand years. Fluctuations exist, are they caused by mankind, not likely. No need to make stiffling policies based on the natural cycle of the Earth.
Posted by: John at June 24, 2003 05:31 AMYou’re right, why try to fix something if we didn’t cause it. Like diseases or cancers. It’s just nature’s way of regulating the population. No sense in trying to find cures.
Posted by: Olympia at June 24, 2003 11:53 AMOne reason to try an address “global warming” is to make money from it. Toward this end, we got the Kyoto Treaty thanks to the intervention of an American company with Al Gore prior to the Kyoto meeting. The company wanted to create a trading system for pollution credits, which they would run at a huge profit as they had run similar systems for electricity and natural gas.
That company was Enron, of course.
Posted by: Richard Bennett at June 24, 2003 05:32 PMWhat does this have to do with Campaign 2004 exactly? Not trying to pick a fight. Just curious.

Posted by: Rick at June 24, 2003 10:34 PMAN EDITORIAL BY JEFF SMITH
AMERICANS HAVE TO WAKE UP AND SEE WHAT GEORGE BUSH IS DOING. UNDER THE GUISE OF FIGHTING TERRORISM HE IS PURGED TO INVADE AND DOMINATE ALL THE OIL PRODUCING NATIONS OF THE MIDDLE EAST. NOW THAT IRAQ HAS BEEN SECURED THE BUSH ADMINISTRATION NOW STARTS THE RUMBLINGS THAT THERE IS TROUBLE IS SAUDI ARABIA. HE HAS SENT 3 CIA COVERT OPERATIONS INTO SAUDI ARABIA TO INSTIGATE A TERRORIST UPRISING FOR THE PURPOSE TO INVADE THIS COUNTRY AND SECURE THE OIL. YOU WILL SEE A COUPLE OF THINGS HAPPEN IN THE NEAR FUTURE, THE FIRST IS THERE WILL BE A (SO CALLED) GROWING PROBLEM IN SAUDI ARABIA THAT WILL BE REPORTED IN THE NEWSPAPERS AND ON TV, THEN THERE WILL BE AN ASSINATION OF THE ROYAL FAMILY BLAMED ON INTERNAL TERRORST BUT CARRIED OUT BY CIA OPERATIVES. THEN THERE WILL BE THE INVASION “TO RESTORE THE MONARCHY” BUT IN ACUTALITY TO SECURE THE SAUDI OIL FOR MR. BUSH AND HIS OIL COMPANY BUDDIES. IT WILL NOT STOP THERE, IRAN, KUWAIT AND THE REST OF THE OIL PRODUCING STATES IN THE MIDDLE EAST WILL FOLLOW. A LOT OF SO CALLED PATRIOTS WILL SAY “SO WHAT” I REPLY TO THAT THAT ALL OF THE OIL IN THAT REGION IS NOT WORTH ONE DEAD AMERICAN. AND NOW THERE IS TALK OF RE OPENING THE DRAFT IS THIS IS DONE IT MUST BE MET WITH ALL RESITANCE POSSIBLE. BECAUSE WHO IS GOING TO PAY FOR THIS OIL? THE LIVES OF YOURS SONS AND DAUGHTERS WILL.
I AM A CONCERNED CITIZEN AGAINST THIS MILITARY ACTION AND WANTED TO SHARE MY FEELINGS. I MANAGE A KASH AND KARY FOOD STORE IN CENTRAL FLORIDA
