"And we call ourselves, simply, Americans."

Well, it’s official folks, Howard Dean has announced his intentions to run for President of the good ole U.S. of A. I had the opportunity to attend the Declaration rally today at Atlanta’s Earthlink Live and I found it to be a very uplifting experience. The text of Dean’s speech is available (link goes to PDF version) on his Web site (there are also options for watching the speech).

The first thing that struck me was the fact that Dean's shirtsleeves were rolled up and he wasn't wearing any sport coat. Besides a few interruptions by fans and supporters, Dean's speech came off without a hitch. Read it for yourself and then make a comparison of where Dean stands on the issues compared to the other candidates. I agree with Dean when he says that the flag and patriotism should belong to all Americans, not one party or the other so make sure to cast your vote for Howard Dean tomorrow in the primary.

I have to admit that this is the first time I have been genuinely fired up about a candidate, this is the first time that I feel I can truly make a difference. During the Clinton campaign, I was disillusioned with the system and felt that Clinton was the lesser of two evils. Today, after hearing Howard Dean's speech, I felt that America has a real chance to get itself out of the quagmire that we now find ourselves stuck in.
