"Roe" wants case overturned
DALLAS (AP) -The former plaintiff known as “Jane Roe” in the 1973 U.S. Supreme Court case that legalized abortion sought to have the case overturned in a motion filed today that asks the courts to consider new evidence that abortion hurts women. Read More…
Choice is one issue where there are clear differences between the Red and the Blue.

Posted by: Stephen VanDyke at June 17, 2003 05:52 PMThis is good. After becoming the Roe of Roe v. Wade, she did NOT have an abortion. She gave the child up for adoption and later changed her position on the issue. People can change, after all.
And yes, “choice” is an area where Red is different from Blue.
Posted by: Joey at June 17, 2003 05:53 PMActually many “moderate” republicans are pro choice. So the “liberal/conservative” divide isn’t as clear cut as one might believe.
As far as Ms. McCovey goes, it’s not her decision now. The die has been cast and it’s now a matter of law. She didn’t institute the lawsuit on her own.
We wouldn’t be arguing about this today if men could get pregnant.

Meaning the right to an abortion would be absolute? I agree.
Is it just me or are most of the editors here men?

I should make an effort to seek viewpoints from the distaff side. Is that sexist?
Posted by: Rick at June 17, 2003 08:56 PMIf men could get pregnant I don’t think it would be a given that the right to an abortion would exist. If men could give birth, I think we’d see a lot more women in charge. And as it stands, this topic is pretty heated, and always will be (unless something else enters into the formula in the future).
And thank you for bringing up the point about women writing for this site. It’s hard to tell with the names, and I was hoping to see someone represent a female’s perspective….especially since we make up a large portion of the voting public.
Posted by: Olympia at June 18, 2003 12:34 PMI agree with Olympia - not only that but insurance coverage - pre, during and post delivery - would be much improved as well. And for what it’s worth, Rick, I don’t think you’re sexist for saying that.
I wonder though who’s really behind Norma’s “motion.” The ‘abortion hurts women’ angle has been a favorite of the Life Resource Network - which started a “Feminists for Life” campaign back in January (check my personal blog post on Jan 15 for more details.) I don’t think we’ve gotten the full story here yet. (big surprise, right?)
Also, just wanted to say that I’m glad to be a part of this group and am looking forward to what’s to come.
